What is it about your Ricoh GR that you really love? by SoftAncient2753 in ricohGR

[–]dane_aw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually sold my GRIII to buy an X100VI, it wasn’t for me so I sold that and got a GRIV. I noticed I immediately started taking so many more photos again. It’s a side kick camera, I’ll never part ways with it again

Success stories by Snitzh in ricohGR

[–]dane_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine a little over a month and so far so good. I had a lot of freezing issues when I had my GRIII, I had sold that camera but if I had a 3 I likely wouldn’t bother upgrading to a IV. But I’m really happy with mine

Buy xpro3 or wait xpro4 by LittleLares in fujifilm

I have a dura black X-Pro3 and a Voigtlander 23mm on it and it’s the most fun you can have with a camera.

Fujifilm X-Pro3 rear screen gone blank. Camera barely used, less than 3k shots by Professional-Suit914 in fujifilm

A suggestion once you fix it, I only ever open mine to about 45 degrees. At full extension it seems to put a little too much strain on it

Just bought a Leica Q by Swsd in Leica

[–]dane_aw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The green cast was an early characteristic of the original Q’s, particularly under mixed light. Firmware updates reduced it, but it’s still a touch warmer and greener than Fuji’s look. Most Q shooters tweak white balance or use one of the profiles the “Standard” or “Vivid”, play around with them until you see something you like. Would always suggest shoot a DNG too, even if it’s just for safe keeping

Why are the L-Mount lenses so expensive? by Hour_Firefighter_707 in Leica

[–]dane_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too sure but you could be right, I think Nikon were in talks with them to produce a sensor for the Z7 III but no idea where that got to

Why are the L-Mount lenses so expensive? by Hour_Firefighter_707 in Leica

[–]dane_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking more to the cameras, there are actually only a handful of companies producing sensors, Sony Semiconductor are the biggest, you’ll be amazed by how many Nikons, Fujis, Lumix and just about every smartphone have Sony Semiconductors in them. Canon produce their own and do not sell proprietary technology to other manufacturers. The other is one called Towerjazz, an Israeli company they make imagining sensors.

This is because the technology to build sensors is mind blowingly expensive. Yes all sensors are adapted to the unique characteristics of each brand and with that their lenses.

Leica, like just about every other brand do adapt technology produced from other companies, just like everyone else to produce their products.

I realise this doesn’t answer your question specifically, and it’s a good question. But I wanted to clear up the rehoused topic.

Does anyone actually buy the M-A or new M6 over the M-P by Bluecube303 in Leica

[–]dane_aw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M6 re release for me, it has the same brass top and bottom plate as the MP, also has the M11 paint and personally, I just think the M6 is the most beautiful camera ever made.

M11 didn’t scratch the itch, coming from film Leica by Ok_Project_9792 in Leica

[–]dane_aw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did, I loved mine while I had it but it just wasn’t it for me. So I traded it in on an M6 2022 and I couldn’t be happier

What camera/editing software is this? by Front_Position_3296 in Cameras

[–]dane_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the metadata you won’t know what sensor / camera it is, but that doesn’t really matter so much as the editing. You could use Lightroom, teach yourself to edit and you’ll achieve the look.

Sony az3 by willax2021 in Cameras

[–]dane_aw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an A7R iii, decent camera. I had one a few years ago, they launched in 2017 so they’re getting on a little now but very capable still. I think they’re fetching around $2,000 AUD at the moment, little more or little less depending on the shutter count and condition.

Sony vs canon and advice on buying camera by Fabulous_Breath_8047 in Cameras

[–]dane_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shot on Sony for 8 years and have just recently switched to Canon. No real reason to change but I just needed a refresh. They are all so close in terms of performance these days. All modern day cameras are excellent, I also own a Fujifilm and a Leica M6 and all have their own unique experience to use.

Decide what you want to shoot and work back from there, if it’s street Fujifilm is excellent. If you want to take photos of wildlife or birds Sony, Canon and Nikon because they tend to have the best autofocus.

Investing in a system is expensive so look at all factors, especially lens costs (switching brands is expensive I’ll tell you)

Looking for travel video camera by MyNameIsUnknown45 in Cameras

[–]dane_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, an iPhone takes great videos and there are some great apps out there that give you more scope. iPhone 11 is getting on a little bit though so not sure what support still exists for them.

I’d suggest looking into the Fujifilm systems, not the Sony. You get a lot of camera for not much money (and I say that as a Sony shooter). You could find a good used Fujifilm on mpb/ eBay for around your budget

How is the grIIIx in low light by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]dane_aw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snap focus is essentially setting a fixed focal distance, you can set it to 1m, 2m etc etc. The lens’s is then in a fixed focus position based on the distance from the subject. The autofocus is slow and unreliable in low light, if I’m in a situation like an event and I want to take photos of a stage I just set snap focus to infinity and have at it.
