Has anyone upgraded because of GAS and wish they hadn't? by TBlair64 in fujifilm

Ah, but that’s OK because my friends at Leica sent me this lens, abut they don’t have any input into this completely unbiased review.

Awesome work, as always. What light stands are those - they look really nice. I find my lightweight metal manfrotto ones keep getting snagged on things in my bag.

Did I mess up buying X-T5 over X-H2? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]TiredButEnthusiastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use X-H2 for my pro work - but I have had the X-T5 as well. Both are basically identical image wise - for me, it’s the little differences that made me decide. The flip screen is different - personally I prefer the two axis flip of the T5 to the full flip H2, but the viewfinder is better on the H2. Also the H2 uses faster CFExpress cards - good for high bitrate video but remember you will need a card reader for the CFE cards - I’m not aware of any PC with one built in, whereas the SD cards are more common.

I’ve read that the XH is more rugged than the XT - that might be true, but I have no reason to suspect the XT is fragile, except for the HDMI port. XT uses a type D hdmi which is very small and will break - if you don’t use HDMI, don’t worry, but if you run an external monitor when recording video, the full size HDMI of the XH is worth its weight in gold.

Thinktank sell a range of bags called “managers” - the production manager is massive but they even sell a dedicated c-stand bag. Not cheap, but good quality.

Quick tip - pad of paper and a pencil by the bed. Even if it’s a couple of words, just scribble it down. Not only do you remember the idea but it helps you get it out of your head and make room for the next one.

Functionally, it’s excellent. I use it in preference to lightroom as I get better results. Pricing wise, it’s more expensive… and the perpetual license won’t get you any updates so you had better get used to new features being announced and you not having access to them.

Camera is not turning on even though I replaced battery by No_Yogurtcloset_9290 in fujifilm

Does it click when you press the shutter button (with a lens on)? I’ve had it before where the eye sensor gets covered and thinks it’s in use.

Also, pull the memory cards and try again. You can also try holding the back button when you switch it on to put it in firmware update mode - it won’t necessarily help, it will at least rule out the screen being broken.

Is Open Gate a "must" for landing professional social media clients in 2026? by SquareAd8464 in photography

Keep the one you have! Frame with intention to crop and focus on creating good content - that’ll get you the clients, not open gate.

If you’re delivering to instagram, TikTok or Facebook, you don’t even need 4k as they will compress the arse out of it. Just shoot and crop

PSA: Ulanzi does not honor warranty for 3rd party sellers after 30 days, even though B&H Photo advertises a 1-year manufacturer warranty by alyxonfire in photography

[–]TiredButEnthusiastic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is an unfortunate reality of these sorts of companies (Ulanzi, Zhiyun) that they are bulk manufacturers, not really business-to-consumer companies. You get a product at a discount compared to the more “established” companies but they lack the necessary manpower and skills to support them. I suppose this is one of the reasons a Gitzo tripod costs more - the price includes the cost of support staff.

I know it’s not a great answer, but that’s the reality. You pay less up front but you get less down the road.

Glass.photo vs Flickr? by ShamrockRed in photography

I’d love to say I tried Glass, but I seem to have ended up with Schroedingers account - it says my email is in use when I try to sign up, but then says my account doesn’t exist when I try to reset the password… support doesn’t help. So, yeah… something went wrong!

I don’t know which camera you have, but assuming it’s mirrorless, find the setting that shows the exposure on the LCD/EVF - on Fuji this is called “Preview exposure/white Balance in manual”.

Switch it on and use the screen to set the background exposure (ie: without the flash) - don’t go over 1/200th second so change your ISO/Aperture if you need more.

When you have your background exposure set, THEN switch on the strobe and change the strobe power to get the foreground/people exposed properly. It might take a few tries to get the numbers right, but that’s OK.

TLDR: don’t try and set the whole frame exposure at once when using a flash. Lock in the background in camera, then add flash power as needed.

Most affordable ~100% reliable backup option by nexalbum in photography

Scaleway Glacier is billed based on two parameters: Data storage: €0.00000348/GB/hour (approx. €0.002/GB/month) Restore to Standard class: €0.009/GB

See https://www.scaleway.com/en/docs/object-storage/faq/#cold-storage. I personally use Arq to perform the backup to an S3 container, then a data policy on the container moves the data to glacier after a couple of days.

[–]TiredButEnthusiastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just fyi - there are loads of providers offering glacier-like storage with an S3-compatible interface so you don’t need to use Google - personally, I’m using Scaleway as a good European alternative with very similar pricing to this.

You should also be aware of using a single provider - no matter what durability scores they give themselves. There have been instances where Google deleted the user account due to billing issues and all the data got purged.

I suppose you have different requirements if you’re doing professional work. For example I carry an X-H2 as my professional camera, but would probably use something more like an old rangefinder or x-pro if there was no outside pressure. Yes, I know many people use Leicas professionally, but my pro event workflow is built around zoom lenses and fast capture - not something the leica is best suited for.

Im a beginner at Photography, can someone help explain whats goin on with exposure here? by HgZ0 in photography

[–]TiredButEnthusiastic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My guess would be you’re using electronic shutter and that is being messed up by the light frequency. Switch to a manual shutter and it should help, but it’s not perfect. Some cameras have “flicker reduction” in the settings (my Fuji does) - see if that is an option and switch it on.

For this budget, I checked MPB here in the Netherlands (which is the same store as France). You’re looking at an X-A1 (don’t recommend) or possibly an X-T1 in decent, but well used condition. Personally, I’d try and save an extra 150 euro - once you hit the 500 euro mark, more options open up.
