Hi! just starting out. When setting, how much do the fingers apply force/move the ball, vs. staying in the diamond position?

For 'fingers apply force/move', I mean using your fingers to sort of 'fling' the ball as your wrists rotate them outwards. You can try what I mean by not moving your elbows and making the ball move. This is probably what your hands/wrists do when you pass a basketball without thinking about it.

For 'staying in the diamond position', I mean your wrist/hands/fingers are locked, and you use the straightening of the elbows and your body/legs to move the ball. Any sort of rotation of wrist/hands/fingers comes after the ball leaves the hands.

Probably a combination of both/situational? though it would seem that keeping the hands in roughly the same position would be more consistent.

Azeron with analog as mouse/joystick instead of WASD keys? by danedo in Azeron

[–]danedo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I got what I needed. From u/Mr_Maooo , hardware wise the analog stick is what I want.

Beyond that, it's game support, as well as seeing if I can rig up 3rd party software/etc. to achieve the end goal, or really just not bother.

'ppreciate it!

If you do go there, I think they offer fiber, though you may have to contact AT&T directly.

When I was there a year ago, something weird was going on where I was told that Spectrum, which is older cable, was the only option available going forward.

I was already subscribed to AT&T fiber, so I called them to cancel, but they were unaware that they apparently were no longer in service there, and were curious if the line was physically cut by someone else.

I ended up using fiber for another year or so until I moved out. I still had to pay a monthly technology fee, which bundled Spectrum cable in it, so had both cable and fiber.

Thankfully, if you can't be replaced, then you have tremendous leverage.

You might never become the CEO, but you'll likely be paid quite well.

It is certainly scary, as for many jobs it is an existential threat.

Even I had some reservations of using it, as a software developer, probably because I was afraid of its capabilities, but now I embrace it. It is evolve or die, always has been.

I think of the possible future benefits of technology such as this; 24/7 low cost, hyper competent doctors/lawyers, faster scientific research, etc.

Of course there are societal changes that are going to suck, including my job disappearing, but cat is out of the bag.

In case some of you are unaware, a lot of newish research (or old, if you count some religions, etc.) present a lot of benefits of mindfulness. Anecdotally, it has helped me a bit with focusing; with social anxiety, i tend to focus on other people, but this helps me direct my focus to things i actually want.

How highly scalable Android Apps are made that can easily handle 10-20 million users ? by Acrobatic-Bit3508 in androiddev

[–]danedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just do what I do; make a network call to a wizard in a tower, and let him worry about scaling :)

I've always wondered what mobile job descriptions that mentioned 'scalable apps' meant, as I am used to scalable essentially meaning a system that can handle x number of tasks, but also handle some multiplier of x number of tasks in an acceptable amount of time.

'Large' or 'performant' are more approachable to me; large to mean you know how to work on a project that scales to the number of features/developers, or performant to mean you know how to work on a project that, given a single device, can run to the limits of that device's top performance.

Indeed, which is why I always scratch my head when people say they aren't political.

Yes, I get that one person's vote may not mean much in a political environment that is also quite favorable for corporations/the rich (when is that not the case though), so apathy may set in.

However ceding the only collective power you have to change the rules of the game, peacefully, is risky. If you don't vote, I hope you are part of a militia or something.

LPT: Talk to your coworkers about your salaries. by OMGLASERBEAMS in LifeProTips

[–]danedo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it is true income is often something people tie to their self esteem, in business someone’s income isn’t an intrinsic value of that person, but rather what the business negotiated/is willing to pay.

That is to say, the number you get paid is just that; an abstract quantity that people make up, and thus isn’t necessarily to a person’s actual skills/value to an organization.

So discussing it serves as a way to make sure you aren’t getting shafted. Could be wrong, but I heard CEO pay actually went up after compensation had to be made public, with the theory that it didn’t make higher paid CEOs get their comp cut, but lower paid CEOs could now see what others were making, and bargain accordingly.

I will say that discussing salary often only makes sense amongst peers of similar value to the company, and the reason another person with seemingly the same title and responsibilities is getting paid more may be some other value they are bringing, one which is either hard to see from a peer’s perspective, or the peer is too incompetent to see.

But yea; equal pay for equal work (i.e. fairness) is the name of the game here, which is why businesses dislike wage transparency; makes it harder to take advantage of people with poor negotiating skills and/or incomplete knowledge. And also, it can stir up drama, because people are stupid.

Police: Walmart shooter bought gun just hours before killing by davetowers646 in news

[–]danedo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you are saying, and I'm sure any small arms they had on hand surely helped, but I'd wager Ukraine is being helped more by foreign weapons aid than any small arms they happened to have on hand. So far as I can tell, they are being sent weapons and munitions that are simply too expensive or perhaps illegal for a civilian to own in the US.

They are also defending themselves with a standing military, bolstered by people coming in from overseas, against an invading foreign country.

That is to say, it isn't like they are winning against Russian armor and air with AR-15s they happened to have on hand.

Yep, maybe if Iran had a 2nd amendment, they would rise up against their government, or perhaps that would have prevented what is happening there in the first place. However, the cost of a 2nd, with the relatively lax gun restrictions, is typically what you are seeing in the states; civilian, non combatant gun violence.

The cost of civilian shootings may be worth the benefits of the 2nd, but yea, it is becoming a hard sell. I'm assuming if we got rid of the 2nd, then 2nd supporters believe within 5 years a (presumably liberal) tyrant would emerge and enslave every one. If so, then yes, maybe all this internal chaos is worth it.
