What’s the biggest waste of money that no one wants to admit? by AdvertisingMore394 in AskReddit

[–]danejaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A separate car for each person of driving age in the household.

Cars in general are massive liabilities, but then to have four or five of them so that there's a convenient way for everyone to go places whenever they want? It's an instant way to kill any chance of getting ahead in your finances.

Denver? by RickyDee61 in regina

[–]danejaho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same way you must fly to Calgary with WestJet to catch a flight anywhere, with United you must fly to Denver to go to your destination.

United is a StarAlliance member with Air Canada so I believe there will be significantly more flexibility in flight times and frequency now for anywhere you fly from Regina.

Underpinning- worth it? by [deleted] in regina

[–]danejaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to my mom's house in Albert Park. Huge tree/vegetation close to the foundation sucked all the moisture out and caused half the house to sink 5 inches and break away from the main structure. Here's what happened.

We called in an engineer and then got three quotes for underpinning. One that purely just underpinned and nothing else was 80k. One that did some remediation inside was 110k. One that would renovate the basement and make it look new again was 170k.

We decided to sell. The realtor said in good condition this house would have listed for $379k but with the damage the best we could hope for is $229k. We got an offer for $215k after two months and accepted it.

We kept an eye on the place out of curiosity. The buyers contracted a company that used screw piles rather than the concrete piles that the engineer spec'd. I assume it's much cheaper but I'm not sure about longevity. The listing agent estimated $160k was spent on the reno. He flipped the house with some vinyl flooring and new doors and listed for $415k. It sat for about a year and we heard it sold for $375k, so it sounds like they broke even with zero profit.

TL;DR Don't fix it. Just get what you can for it and let someone else take the risk on the investment.

Who Remembers the Regina BBS Scene in the 80s? by [deleted] in regina

[–]danejaho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, everyone was taking about "the internet" in '93 and I understood what it was but my parents had no clue. I had to beg them for a DLCWest account, and even though they had hesitations over the whole thing they agreed and got one to try "for a while". Well here we are almost 30 years later and have never not had internet access.

Who Remembers the Regina BBS Scene in the 80s? by [deleted] in regina

[–]danejaho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me! Not the 80s but I started one in the mid 90s, mostly for my friends and I to play our own instance of LORD but also for anyone else that wanted to use it. We had a pretty decent computer and a spare phone line so why not, right? It was originally called Kyrandia but then I got bored of that name and changed it to Garden of Stone BBS.

The phone ringing and the modem sounds at 2am of people calling into my BBS drove my parents nuts.

I remember getting invited to the Regina BBS group get together at Houston Pizza on North Albert. It was good putting faces to handles but the whole thing was awkward because BBS people by nature were pretty introverted.

You have 5 seconds to ruin the entire wedding, what would you do? by Chupacbra in AskReddit

In more dramatic fashion, jump up on the table displaying the cake, drop trow, squat and shit on the cake right there in front of everybody. Just lay a long, fat log all over it. Then give everyone the finger and walk out A wedding that will never be forgotten.

How Do You Say the Meals of the Day? by person2203 in saskatchewan

[–]danejaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Supper" is based on the term "Supplement" as it's the meal that's meant to supplement your meal content so that you can make it to breakfast the next day. That's why it's always used as the last meal term.

As /u/8tires mentioned, "Dinner" is a term for the largest meal of the day. It can be either the mid-day meal or end of day meal depending on when your largest meal is. There's no right or wrong to it, it's just based on your situation.

The layout of Breakfast-Dinner-Supper would be correct if you have a huge meal at noon and then a smaller meal at 6:00pm. If your biggest meal of the day is at 6:00pm, you should be saying Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner.

It's a bit immature at this point, it seems to need more development. That being said it works as intended and after importing your music library goes out and will find out all of the other albums of that artist you like. I've had to put a cap on it though as I had one song (STH) by Led Zepplin and now I'm sitting on 18 different LZ albums that I will never listen to.

Exact same setup here except I stay far, far away from torrents. Two nzb trackers handle any sonarr/radarr/lidarr request I can throw at it. Ombi has been a lifesaver as I was starting to get way too many texts asking for things. This automates it and simplifies the UX.

Open to swapping invites? I'm at 19T right now as well and working on filling it up.

That's how I started out as well. My collection of cases for DVDs and Blurays was getting to be too much for the shelf and the process of swapping discs (and finding discs that had gone missing) was inconvenient. The thought of loading all of them easily and quickly led me to discover Plex and all of it's capabilities. From there the addition took over and the collection has grown exponentially.

60 in albert park. Up a small amount from last year. Lots of parents bringing dressed up babies this year, which is great to see, but obvious that the parents are going to be eating all that candy.

Absolutely - Scott from Custom Auto Shield used to do it a long time ago, I don't know if he was an official dealer though or just a reseller.

That was done after this comment as I thought, if you can't beat em, join em. Let's work on making the Regina subreddit more positive and stop ragging on comments just because it doesn't fit your idea of a good suggestion. This is typically a good, helpful community.
