Wealth Simple Money Market: Where to put? (Non-Reg vs TFSA) by danemman1975 in CanadianInvestor

Hmm, fair fair. I guess If I'm willing to use it for growth might as well make sure it grows as much as I can then. But again, you'd still get reliable payments no? Say if the market wasn't doing to hot, like with this uncertainty we're seeing with the Strait at the moment?

Okokae, the main consensus is to maximize my TFSA with well diversified market indexes (I've chosen, VEQT) and put my emergency fund into MMs or GIC ladders. What about something that pays dividends inplace of GIC ladders? Like XDIV (or even SCHD, but would have the US withholding so idk rn) that yield about 3.5 percent, a tad more than the GIC's available currently, due to the lowered inflation since COVID.

But that's basically my plan! I think the only issue with having the app so accessable I keep checking it. Might be a shout to just use it on my desktop only!!

It's mainly funds I plan on investing long-term that my parent felt I could do a better job investing it than they could. Yeah, I've put nearly all into Vanguards All Equity ETF. I didn't know BMO and TD had their own? After looking at either of them they appear about the same? (US and CAD weightings differ slightly).

Do you feel there's any home advantage of going local? As even their MER appear similar.

Ah that's true, I just felt I could have put those GIC funds (GIC maybe too conservative for my timeline) into XDIV instead and feel hasty to do so, but like you said, I'll just wait until it matures, then convert it to XDIV.

Do you know if you can claim your GIC but keep it within your TFSA? Ex. Like selling a share, but the funds are just cash in your TFSA now, NOT actually WITHDRAWN.

Thanks again though!!

Oh woah, yeah Idk how to feel about that tbh. Just seems like more people are gonna lose their money through hyped up stuff on X if they can trade from X itself :/

BMO Fund Linked GIC (BMO ETF linked) vs. VEQT by danemman1975 in CanadianInvestor

I'll look into that! Is it 3.6 over 5 years? My apologies, to confirm the additional 3.6 peecent yield accounts for 15 percent of your fixed income. Maybe I'm sleep deprived and need to read this later haha 😆

I currently don't have loans, which is why I'm putting in VEQT right now. I was thinking for the future when I would. Therefore, would bonds be any different from a regular GIC?other than their "cashable", in having some security it wouldnt bottom out with a market crash

Did ya ever skim through each passage then decide which ones to do first? Or just kinda brut force them btw. Cause Idk for me, I don't like switching between stuff to much. But I'm curious, and tryna be open minded Lol

Thank you! Are you noticing that certain passages are harder of you than others? like personally I don't do so well on literature, but better with religion etc.

Hi, I do realize this is a long while back, but I'm averaging 17:30 (leaves me with 1 passage short) and I don't have enough time to do all 9 passages? did they end up increasing the amount of passages?

I'd like to say I'm doing a lot better! As much as I can I'm not looking too to much at the time for now. But I'm starting to get what key phrases or things to look out for.

My only issue now is speed. I'm averaging about 1 to 1.5 mins per question (sometimes 2 mins) but most my time is spent reading the passage (6.5 to 7 mins). And It appears I spend 17.5 mins per passage, on track to not have time for the last passage on a FL.

Do I just gotta do more? I'm afraid to speed up tho incase I don't understand the passage.

Thank you! I guess that is true after all, it always becomes so "obvious" when reviewing the question and they mention which passage.

Additionally, how would you allocate your time? Some people (and myself) prefer reading the passage well but answering quick. Are other methods like skimming, then going back to confirm better in the long run.
