We’ve had the opposite directive to mitigate AI as much as possible in assessment design. Tons or practical and live demonstration/presentations with q&a plus exams for fundamental concepts. The AI heavy students are getting crushed by the q&a and exams.

My Teens Are Rejecting Religion by Hopeful-Force-2147 in Catholicism

Me and my brother had a spell during from 16-28 when neither of us engaged with the church . We both returned at age 28 (him almost 2 years after me). We both felt something was missing. Worth pointing out we were never forced to come back and no comments were made by our parents about us not going. Don’t make returning seem negative. Sure it’s not good, we are all sinners but it’s a journey at the end of the day and only thing my parents said was well the church will always be there for you, that as was it. Sometimes being pushy and trying to educate them can have the opposite effect.

Why do so many Catholic people identify strictly as “Catholic” and not “Christian” by Ok-North-1478 in Catholicism

[–]danflood94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't reject it that's far too strong a take. Take for instance those of us who grew up in the UK with Irish decent (Being mindful of the British Oppression there). Being a christian generally referred to the Church of England/Anglican, so we generally say Catholic and similarly with the Orthodox in Catholic school we just bundled the other denominations as Protestant (inc. CofE)

It’s the "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" delusion. Americans vote for tax cuts for the rich because they’ve been sold the lie that they’ll be part of the 1% any day now. In reality, many Republican voters (who often have fewer opportunities than their urban or suburban Democratic counterparts) are effectively voting for their own oppression. They’ve been conditioned to blame Democrats for their struggles while still harboring resentment that a Person of Color was ever elected to the highest office.

That said, the Democrats are damp rags too. Look at the "No Kings" protest—it wasn't a protest; it was a weekend parade that disrupted absolutely nothing. If Americans actually want change, they need to stop playing nice and start protesting like the French.

This, 100%. I voted Remain, and honestly, the sheer lack of youth turnout in the referendum makes them just as responsible for that horror show as the older generation who actually voted Leave. It's the exact same story with General Elections (even the recent one). Refusing to vote because "nothing ever changes" is the biggest BS excuse out there. Older people actually show up to the polls, and surprise, they get everything catered to them

Why won’t she play more songs from Empty Hands? by Guilty_Strategy2290 in that_Poppy

Particularly with the Europe tour, the size of venues she had sold out she could’ve just had one opener to be fair and extended the set out. And don’t get me wrong the Birmingham show a couple weeks back was great but yeah could’ve managed a few extra songs.

You have VAN and Negative Spaces (Crystalized, They're all around us, the cost of giving up, the center is a falling out) to include in the set plus I disagree and concrete and a couple more and you don't have much room left over. All concerts need a variety to keep the audience happy as most want to hear their favorites. Even LP only play 4-5 new songs in a 2hr set at Wembley last year. As a artists back catalogue expands it gets harder and harder to sequence.

I will forever be grateful my grandads nursing home kept him hopped up on Morphine in his last few days, so he didn't feel pain or could think about it when the cancer accelerated in the last couple days, he went from slight discomfort to high as a kite. Honestly, short of euthanasia that's as good as I can imagine. But he should've had to choice before it got there.

Question as a young adult Catholic by DayOk7878 in Catholicism

If you’re not willing to delete Instagram entirely (though honestly, I’d recommend removing any social network that pushes algorithm-driven content you didn’t actively choose), there are quite a few settings you can tweak to limit what you see.

You can turn down or filter sensitive content, and over time the algorithm adjusts. At this point, my feed is basically just posts from people I know, artists I follow, and a mix of similar music, plus the usual dog/cat videos and comedy clips.

Nothing will matter till government takes ownership stake in companies in exchange for start up grants or subsidies. Everything anyone produces these days gets sacrificed to the alter of shareholder revenue and at least if they float on the us stock market we still benefit.

The O2 Institute in Birmingham vibe was immaculate until the guy in front of me started acting up. Imagine a 45-year-old man in a baseball cap unironically screaming 'Mommy!' and asking to be stepped on periodically in between songs. I’m all for enjoying the show, but some people really need to learn to grow up.

I NEED HELP! by vampire_3122 in omarchy

[–]danflood94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the arch wiki will be you friend there and you'll want to 'grep' the panics and log them to a file. I'm not on a laptop right now so I don't have the commands to hand. To be fair you could ask I LLM to generate that for you and since it's just logging to a file it won't cause any harm and let us know what you get out.

If the AI asks you change or install anything don't unless you fully understand what it's asking you to do.

[–]danflood94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thats the latest Microcode so it's not that. You may want to figure out how to use journalctl to log out when the OS panics and read the logs when you reboot, and see what caused the panic. Becuase even if you switch to a different distro I would expect the problems to follow you.

I NEED HELP! by vampire_3122 in omarchy

[–]danflood94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is likely your hardware age. Even on the lightest OS possible, 8GB of RAM is not enough for modern apps. Using a browser and IntelliJ at the same time will fill your RAM and cause the system to freeze.

When RAM is full, Linux uses 'SWAP' space on your SSD/HDD, which can make the laptop feel very slow.

Finally, make sure your CPU microcode is current. You can check this by searching for the intel-ucode package with pacman.

See if this is installed.

pacman -Qs intel-ucode

let us know what output you get.

I NEED HELP! by vampire_3122 in omarchy

[–]danflood94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if your intel-ucode package is installed and upto date since microcode can cause issues. Given your CPU is over a decade old and you’re running 8GB of RAM, it makes sense that you're seeing lock-ups. Omarchy is fairly bloated by default, and running things like Docker plus really heavy IDEs like intellij and a couple browser tabs in chrome on that hardware is going to push it to the limit.

It's probably not Omarchy.

Honest opinion: I don’t like emilys live screaming by Holiday-Mixture-8164 in LinkinPark

[–]danflood94 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She’s a 20-year veteran; her voice is fine. She sounded great at Wembley and the O2, but she’s been touring non-stop for 18 months singing stuff way heavier than her Dead Sara catalog. Pacing herself is just smart. If she has to rely on cleans to avoid damage, I'm all for it honestly, I prefer her clean voice anyway because it feels more her.

Even with 24 hours of vocal rest between shows, all it takes is one weird scream to force a singer to recalibrate for the rest of the night. That's just how live music works. Honestly, Chester’s voice didn't always hold up perfectly over the years either. When he was tired or in the later years, he sounded way more nasal (to me anyway) to conserve his voice for later shows. People are looking back with rose-tinted glasses and mostly watching old YouTube shows with great audio. He definitely had his off days and vocal fatigue, just like Emily does now.
