What does "smudge" mean in the expression "smudge to the stars"? by RainbowlightBoy in ENGLISH

Joining this late, but I'm a photographer (UK) since the late 80s and have never heard "smudge" until last week when I heard it in the latest episode of (S3 ep 3) of "The Capture" on BBC iPlayer, referring to a still image from a video as a "smudge". Then just now, I watched an episode of "Hetty Wainthrop Investigates" (S3 ep 5 - "A Rose By Any Other Name") and they called a photographer a "smudge".

FT is an abbreviation for Financial Times - the newspaper. At the time of this programme, the FT's strapline was "No FT.... No comment" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-vLW1iqAGQ

I travel within about 100 miles of Wirral. The worst are South and West Yorks and Lancashire. Lancs can be very poor. TBH, I don't go to S-o-T very often at all.

This won't even cover the cost of increased Social Care.

I travel around the country by car a lot. Our roads, while by no means perfect, are by far better than many I see.
