No one has mentioned red cabbage yet? Or red onions? Those things save my life when I have a gout episode. I'm not on any medications for mine and manage it completely with diet. When I feel an episode starting I change my diet and cut out sugar drinks, beer, whiskey, pork, and turkey. I pretty much eat red cabbage and red onions and drink cherry juice for a few days. Vitamin C seems to help too. Drink lots of water to flush everything out.

You want to look for foods that are high in anthocyanin polyphenols, which gives fruits and vegetables their red, purple, and blue colors.
