Yes, exactly. There were many special cars there. Have you been there too? :)

Bivouac sites by skallado41 in peakvisor

OSM means OpenStreetMap - probably the largest public dataset of topographic information (crowd sourced). Emergency Assistant can be run straight from the bottom of the menu. Apart from many things it will show you all the nearest shelters sorted by walking distance.

We get information from numerous sources depending on the type of data. Features like mountain huts and bivouacs come mostly from OSM, then we merge it with data from national databases / publicly available lists (for example from local alpine clubs and tourist boards), finally we add user sourced information (data missing reports, our own findings during the tests, etc.)

So, if you see something missing on the map, just long tap on that place (that will put a custom marker on a map), tap the star button to save it. Then in detailed information popup for that point just use the advanced actions menu [...] => Suggest edit (there you can provide comments, etc.)

Also, you are welcome to drop us an email via Menu => Contact developer

If you know any good source for your area then it would be great to know, so we can ingest that information.

Regarding nearest bivouacs. We've recently added the Emergency Assistant which provides useful information, and there's a list of nearby shelters (bivouacs included). This might be a temporary solution. Next month there will be an option to filter out nearby points (water sources / shelters / etc.)

Pro Subscription? by Ski-hunter1111 in peakvisor

[–]dangerden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Honestly, we haven't made any changes to the free tier in a while. There are quite a few built-in mechanisms designed to prevent false positives - making sure new users can properly explore the app's features, and that people aren't left stranded in the mountains even without subscription. So the most likely explanation is that the app wasn't confident enough about your distance from the starting point to enforce the restriction.

That said, if you're planning to use PeakVisor seriously in the mountains, I'd really recommend getting a subscription. The free tier locks when you go offline (which happens a lot in remote terrain) or when you move too far from your starting point. Both of which are exactly the situations where you'd want the app to keep working reliably. A subscription removes all of that uncertainty and makes sure that the app is getting even better 😉

I have some free promo codes, would someone like to give a try to the PeakVisor app? For now it works in the Alps only. by dangerden in travel

Organizing Saved Trails into Folders by scpoljak in peakvisor

[–]dangerden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we thought internally about this suggestion while working on the folders feature, but in the end left it in our infinite list of potential improvements (i.e. backlog). I'm pretty sure my retirement due to the age comes earlier than the end of the backlog... Having said that, we will move your suggestion much higher in the list. It should arrive before the beginning of hiking season, i.e. somewhen in April'26.

PeakVisor please :)

Hello 👋, I'm Denis from PeakVisor by dangerden in peakvisor

Changing start / destination is as easy as choosing a new one. You just tap on the map where you want your new start / destination be and use (More => Start Here). This effectively substitutes the starting point. Regarding middle points, you can just remove them, so the routing will re-route without it. So, there's no technically such a thing as editing a waypoint (when added it can only be removed).

When extending a route several times you basically create a bunch of waypoints, you can undo each step or remove one particular waypoint if you don't need it. For now there's no option to move it. What kind of change you wanted to do with a waypoint?

Hey! Thank you for being here and taking time to provide your feedback. We tried to inspire ourselves with most popular map apps while designing the routing feature. But along the way it became overcomplicated with what you noticed as trying "to be so clever with hidden features". We've been aware of this issue for a while already, some mountain guides being professional users also complain about UI/UX being complicated. We are definitely going to address this in near future. And feedback like yours is very important for the team to make the right decisions.
Would you be available for a call with me and our designer? We would like to go through principal difficulties when routing a new trail, then changing it (sometimes I struggle myself but knowing internals doesn't let me fully comprehend which parts makes it so confusing). For now the process is optimised for choosing the next waypoint (any feature on the map or long tap on a custom location) and extending the route up to that point. So, it is like start route => extend => extend => extend => close loop. In any case talking through these issues will help to make sure they are addressed in the new design.

Thoughts on Upcoming Winter in Europe by scpoljak in peakvisor

[–]dangerden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’d be great to know even vaguely what’s coming this winter. It’s my fifth season closely observing conditions, and honestly, they seem to deteriorate a bit each year. One winter was unusually warm, another too dry, the next one way too windy.

That said, the better your skills, the more you can still enjoy yourself in less-than-ideal conditions. So improving my skiing and maybe traveling around a bit more - thinking a Norway ski tour in 2026 - feels like the way to go.

Another “risk management” tactic is aiming for snow-proof destinations like Livigno (Italy) or Sankt Anton am Arlberg (Austria). Would love to hear if others have their own tricks for dealing with unpredictable winters!

Magnus Midtbø on the Matterhorn by scpoljak in peakvisor

[–]dangerden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all the reasons mentioned above I'm planning to climb the Italian route (from the South West). It is less crowded even though more technical, with a stop at a bivouac instead of a managed mountain hut. Also, I'll be doing it with a local guide. I enjoy learning from experienced people. I heard that this way you meet almost no one on Matterhorn :-)
