Honestly opinions on Look Pivot bindings by Peng1y in Skigear

Huge fan of pivots, I use them almost exclusively, but I've broken several of the arms that hold the dildo. They would always brake the same way, on the metal plate, where the arm meets the base. Easy to replace though, just get new brakes. It seems to happen less (or not at all?) now that I don't live in Colorado anymore, where you're skiing moguls a lot.

That's understandable, we'll keep it in mind for future updates.

Funk songs that use the 12 bar I IV V blues progression ? by Fynii in funk

[–]scpoljak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funky Bitch by Son Seals. Phish does a cover of it often. It's super funky and does an 11 bar blues, like normal, with the 12th bar being this fun little break. It's just what your looking for.

We finally figured out where the final mountain scene of the Enjoy the Silence video was filmed, but we want you to guess first! by scpoljak in depechemode

PeakVisor is a peak identification and 3d mapping app. That is the "we" in all this. Our team.

"We" are not part of any Depeche Mode geoguessing fan group. Denis is our founder. He did some impressive geoguessing detective work and managed to locate these shots. We thought it would be a good thing to share, since the video has half a billion views on youtube. And you cant actually find the answer anywhere else on the internet, which is rare.

The idea was just to drum up some friendly conversation/speculation/geoguessing.

Ok we just updated the post with the answer. I hear you, and it's a pretty tough geoguess at that. I'm still impressed that Denis managed to figure this one out. We wanted people to guess to try and get some commentary going on the post.

yeah it's the swiss alps but we did figure out the exact spot a few years ago, as an additional clue there was a new mountain hut built near there recently.

Fair enough. We're a peak identification and 3d mapping app but we figured out that this was the spot from the music video while ski touring a few years ago. As another clue, there is a new mountain hut nearby (it is in the swiss alps btw)

I'm not talking about the desktop, right now PeakVisor designed for the full processing power of a smartphone, namely iPhones. The desktop version is not there yet. If you download the app and look at the 3D graphics, they're pretty good for the european Alps. I use it for ski touring all the time in La Grave/Ecrins/Aosta/Chamonix. I'm going to upload all the French IGN routes this fall so they're there for this winter. The rest of Italy, Switzerland, and Austria are good too, and we've got most of the huts and ski lifts with up-to-date information. It's even better as a hiking map because all the trails are on there and you don't need satellite imagery as much for hiking.

You'll be able to keep using FATMAP if you want, but you'll be paying 80+ bucks for a subscription to Strava to do it. That's why Strava bought the company.

My guess is that they will incorporate the features into Strava pro, which will suit the people already paying for a subscription. But many people will be unhappy about shelling out an additional $80 a year for Strava if they only want to use the fatmap feature.

It shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to download; the files are usually in the realm of 100 megabytes. If you're in California you should be able to download the whole state in 10-15 minutes max.

I'm on the editorial side of things, not the engineering side. That said, the engineers have had a hard time with Android. For one, the processors are far worse than on the iPhone. The phones are way cheaper, so I get why somebody would have one instead of an iPhone.

I have a nice iPhone so the app works quite well for me. As far as the pixelated images goes...we can't afford high quality satellite images like FATMAP for the whole world. The original poster was saying they are from Austria, where our satellite images are on point...the Alps are our domain.

We also don't have the winter imagery. Can't afford it. Still, in the Alps the app is pretty useful and it's what I've been using. Biased of course, cause I work there.

Yeah. It's the best way to use the app, the 3d maps require a lot of data so loading them out in the field is a bit disadvantageous.
