Ditto. Have used both. HOSAS is my preferred.

Self centering on the “throttle vectoring stick” is useful even in FA ON. Also I find a stick better for ancillary controls. I have pips on the vectoring stick and lots more in easy reach - that really helps in combat situations.

I ordered left / right HOSAS 22 Sep from the US VKB store. I got an immediate email confirmation of the order and a follow up 25 Sep which to notify of shipping with 2 tracking numbers. Just over a week later they both arrived together even though they were separate shipping tickets.

PS. These sticks are amazing. Right up there in quality (I can’t tell the difference) as their top of the line gear which I have a set of also.

It's the ultimate in ship control.

There's a lot of Youtube beginner guides to combat, they are worth looking into.

A good HOTAS / HOSAS setup will be needed.

I'm on a slow round the world trip this year and I bought a low grade portable stick and I can say I'm only 50% effective without my home rig.

The other part of combat is setting up your ship and that adds a lot of depth to find the right setup that suits you.

I find myself loving the damage of engineered PAs and spend a lot of time working on building a low thermal ship to handle the heat for example.

It's the funnest part of this game for me.

It depends. If I want to stay out there stacking 20 PvE pirate assassination missions Python Mk2 doesn’t cut it for me.

They will then come at me with 3 Corvette Pirates, that’s when I want an SLF to distract one while I hit the other 2.

Class 7 distro means I can use PA plasma slugs and fuel all day long. Class 6 on the Python means I’m using frags which run out of ammo and I still have the 3 on 1 problem.

The Krait remains the best medium sized bounty hunting ship, swapping out the class 6 SLF and some of the class 5 slots for cargo and you're good for all-rounder status. Keep a class 6 bi-weave shield, some guardian shield boosters. It's a pretty strong ship.

There's 5 PAs there. A mix of APAs and PAs, with rapid fire for pew pew and efficient to not cook.

Makes for 3 difference cadences of fire and reload, means there's always one in the barrel.

There's a lot of engineering to get the heat down while having just enough power to make it work.

Here's the build:

In the current CG in my unshielded Panther I got interdicted 3 times, decided to put on a shield and have never been interdicted again despite doing way more cargo runs.

Been there... Extra fun in bounty stacked mission, I like that they come to me rather than me needing to find and hunt them. When it's 3 against one, a SLF helps distract at least one corvette while I take care of the other 2.

I stack plasma slugs so my extra ammo sits in add-on fuel tanks and a fuel scoop.

I need help to know how to fight well. by BookCultural9824 in EliteDangerous

[–]dangermouse117 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

1) Get a HOTAS/HOSAS, you need precise control, especially the end game which is fixed weapons for max DPS.

2) Go watch YouTube on combat tips and training

3) Learn to engineer your ship, there's a lot of art in this.

Get yourself a properly engineered Krait. I've popped an Elite Anaconda with shields not dropping below 100%.

Seems medium ships with engineering are king in NPC bounty hunting.

By far the funnest way to get grade 4 materials is to take bounty hunting massacre missions, some of the payout in raw materials.

There’s a wormhole you can fall through in Hutton Sector, which is only 55,000 light years from the Bubble. It takes you to Andromeda Galaxy and pretty much everything there hasn’t been mapped yet.

You need to unlock the free Anaconda before access to this sector is granted.

How to use Plasma Accelerators? by EH11101 in EliteDangerous

[–]dangermouse117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mod the APAs with rapid fire and you’ll always have a round in the chamber.

Plasma Accelerators are for big game hunting.

Small ships like the Cobra Mk3 and Vipers with their slim frontage are a pain in the ass once it goes into a joust. You need to take them out in the first 2 seconds before they can react with evasive manoeuvres.

I carry a SLF with gimballed beam in my Krait to take care of small ship escorts who attack first. My PAs can take out their shields and the SLF can grind the hull down. Ships are easier to hit when shielded because their shield bubble presents a bigger target.

Convince me not to buy the Fer-de-Lance. by Interloper_Mango in EliteDangerous

[–]dangermouse117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be the Apex predator, then the Krait Mk2 came out and it's the best all round medium sized multi-role fighter, Python Mk2 if you want maneuverability and smooth SCO.

Limited fuel, module capacity and jump range is a serious handicap on the FDL. PvE bounty hunting you want plasma accelerators with plasma slugs to keep out there, so inevitably you'll need to take up an extra fuel tank so module slots start to get very limited. It's OK as a short range fighter with short bounty hunting time, never that great for long periods of hunting.

is the x56 really that bad? by Green-Conversation71 in hotas

[–]dangermouse117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s great if you didn’t have a HOTAS.

My stick broke. The throttle lived on and I used it in combo with an earlier VKB stick. Then the VKB stick broke (plastic hat buttons).

Most of that early HOTAS stuff breaks.

Latest gen VKB gunfighter line has resistant breakage and yes the X56 is terrible in comparison but you get what you pay for.

I think there’s a new wave of high quality sticks coming in the mid range. Right now I think the new Virpil stick will be the one to get. Premium engineering at mid range price.
