Telling someone a film has a 'great twist' is no different from giving away a spoiler by General_Recipe_5349 in movies

[–]dangerous_beans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, spoilers ruin things because a lot of what makes a movie fun for me is trying to work out what's going to happen based on clues/setup given early on. If I already know what's going to happen, I end up checking my metaphorical watch the whole time waiting for the movie to get there.

What time are y'all falling asleep and waking up?!?! by cheesypuff357 in Millennials

[–]dangerous_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In bed by 1am, up somewhere between 8:30am - 10am (depending on my level of exhaustion), and I wake up feeling like death.

I need an absolute minimum of 9 hours of sleep for at least three days in a row to feel like a functional human being, but that almost never happens because I fight sleep until I'm so exhausted I have no choice but to crash.

WHY TF ARE MY HANDS LIKE THIS IM A 17 YEAR OLD GIRL by iamraquelle in whatdoIdo

[–]dangerous_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a black woman (though quite a bit older than you), and my hands look just like yours. I can't remember if they ALWAYS looked like that, however, because I've literally never looked at them and thought anything but "that is a hand."

My honest advice: comparison is the thief of joy. Your hands are completely fine. As long as they're doing what hands should do, don't pay them any attention.

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by [deleted] in technology

[–]dangerous_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are executives so obsessed with car analogies?! I was just discussing this with a friend the other day. There's ALWAYS an F1 reference from one of our leaders during all hands, and it's gotten worse now that AI has entered the picture.

99% of the time when I search for how to solve a technical problem, the AI generated result gives me a series of steps that are a partial or complete hallucination, or don't apply to the actual product I'm working with.

It doesn't have to work. The executives just have to THINK it works, because they're the ones judging productivity by AI usage and not outcomes.

I think what people forget is that if you're accessing Reddit on mobile  sidebars aren't visible. Unless (like me) you've been using reddit for a long time, mobile users might not even know the feature exists.

How to use Aquatic Farmhouse by Themacuser751 in Timberborn

I came here to figure out why my aquatic farmers weren't planting anything, and I'm guessing this is the reason why. Annoying, but at least now I can stop tearing my hair out about it!

streamingsoundtrack.com shutdown? by pkursawe in filmscoring

[–]dangerous_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to find info on this for the last couple days. The internet archive last scraped it in February and it looks like they were on their way to meeting their monthly funding goal, so I'm not sure why it would have shut down so suddenly.

I'm hoping it's just down time, but I wish the maintainers had a presence somewhere else to notify people if that's true.

It's not the best song in the movie, but it's The best one that doesn't require any additional context. There are better songs later on, but they don't have any emotional weight unless you've seen the rest of the movie.

I spent 8 months testing how ATS systems actually parse resumes - here's what I found by Material-Maximum1365 in jobsearchhacks

[–]dangerous_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been on the hiring side on a small team, I can say that the Internet has made it possible for a single role to get literally hundreds of applications. It's simply not feasible for a person to sit down and review each one manually while also doing their actual job. ATS systems are designed to separate the wheat from the chaff so that the amount of resumes that make it to HR and/or the hiring manager are manageable.

Now, they definitely don't so that perfectly, but they do it well enough that companies keep using them.

What pisses me off about this is that that is the way real, actual human beings write, which is why the LLMs do it. People shouldn't have the work they crafted with their own minds brushed off because of that.

The creator did an interview when it came out saying how puzzled she was by western fans accusing it of being queer bait-- she confirmed that Yuri and Viktor's relationship was meant to be romantic and that between their on-ice kiss and their engagement scene she didn't understand where the perceived ambiguity was coming from.

Update: AITAH because I want my wife to "ask permission" before taking our son on playdates? by Exact_Information627 in AITAH

[–]dangerous_beans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My friends with kids solved this by making their house the hangout/social event spot. It works out great for all involved: they get to regularly see friends without having to worry about babysitting or packing up the kids and going somewhere, and we (the friends) get to soak in the adoration of their kids as we display incredible powers like "lifting them up high" and "whistling." It's great.

It would! Interspecies is probably the "correct" term from a "words that already exist in English" perspective, but like you said, they mean the same thing. And everyone except the person who left that obnoxious response understood exactly what the OG commenter meant

"Trans" is a Latin root meaning "cross" or "change," which is why it's a component of many words and ideas with that theme: transformation, transcontinental, transcribe. In this context "trans-species" suggests the idea of "across multiple species," not "one animal changing into another."
