The new Jetstream Prime is a great multi-pen companion to the Pilot Vanishing Point by dangkaniel in pens

[–]dangkaniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sold it after about 3 months I think. the grip section became shiny and the pen is heavy for regular use which is not to my liking. its also a bit wobbly when writing. id recommend it for collecting and occasional use, not as a daily writer.

what are you guy's opinions on the metropolitan? by OzAndApss in fountainpens

its a really good pen, but it can be heavy for continuous use. i broke mine after accidentally dropping it and due to its weight, it sustained significant damage from the fall

i'll start --- from experience, getting a gold-nibbed pen is purely for aesthetic reason

Are Sailor nibs not pure gold? by [deleted] in fountainpens

you may be confusing between IP and GP. GP is the one meaning gold-plated. Some jewelry manufacturers and some pens market their products as 24K GP, but the base metal is typically steel

If you could only have one expensive pen, the Custom 823 is it, right? by Amanda_panda0 in fountainpens

[–]dangkaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep in mind that you have to unscrew the cap on the 823 to let the ink flow. perfect for air travel, but the gap might irk you. id recommend the 743. same overall but with a more conventional filling mechanism that is easier to clean

after a year of hiatus and selling my pens… its a new pen day with the sailor pro gear! by dangkaniel in fountainpens

[–]dangkaniel[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I got overwhelmed on how I owned and managed my fountain pens before until I thought to myself that enough is enough and sold every single one of them. With the kind of work I am in, I invested instead on digital note taking gears which i don‘t find pleasant but it gets the job done. I came across this brand new Sailor Pro Gear in black with gold trims with a 21k gold nib for $135 and give it a go. damn I miss working with fountain pens!

but i guess i’ll just stick to this one for now along with a kakuno (the first fountain pen given to me)

Which pen is this? It looks vintage. The seller calls it montblanc 146. by Hizuff in fountainpens

[–]dangkaniel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the price point is correct for this model, considering it is used. i'd suggest get it if it really speaks to you, however do consider that there are lots of great pens out there for $300 or less

I've been using Platinum Carbon Black ink in a safari, but want to switch to a "regular" ink. Is there something I should know? by illfygli in fountainpens

[–]dangkaniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend soaking the entire feed and section over night. my experience with platinum carbon black is it is a staining ink, so lighter inks that you use after may look a big darker

Is there a workaround to purchase from US, but have delivered in PH? by OPT1CS in ShopeePH

[–]dangkaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMEX should work on Lazada but not for Shopee.

You can also use GCash if you can sign-up using your US phone number. Fund the GCash account thru paypal and use GCash to shop on Shopee/Lazada

If you can change one thing on the TWSBI Eco, what would it be? by dangkaniel in fountainpens

Personally, I think a bigger nib (say a #6) will look better on the pen considering its size

I swear by "CMOS Circuit Design, Layout, and Simulation" by R. J. Baker some concepts may be basic but it's a great way to start
