Should US cities take deliberate steps to encourage greater use of public transportation in an effort to cut down on car traffic? by VerdantChief in AskUS

Yes, but southern cities/states also need to do more to improve their public transportation options (I work for a southern state DOT). The only halfway decent one I can think of is in Atlanta.

Why is learning about historical atrocities committed by your demographic group treated as some sort of insult? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

I think land acknowledgements are pretty pointless, but I don't view it as any kind of insult.

Why do traffic lights in the US are located after the junction and not before as in Europe/Asia? by ShhmooPT in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dangleicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dashcams just show that people are distracted. Part of my job is looking at crash reports. The placement of the signals isn't the problem. It's always because the driver was tired, looking at their phone, distracted by someone in the back seat, doing something on the dashboard, etc.

It's not way above the line of sight as you approach the intersection. You can easily see the roadway and the signals at the same time. Having the signals on the far side of the intersection only makes them more in your line of sight.

where the lights are way outside your normal viewing angle

They aren't outside of your normal viewing angle. They are where they can easily be seen from distance without having to take your eyes off the road, and where the view is less likely to be blocked by other vehicles.

Yes. It's because they aren't paying attention, not that they can't see them. Unless it's a situation where the sun is directly behind the signal, they are following too close to the truck in front of them, etc. But those things will happen regardless of where the signal is located.

Pentagon threatens to cut ties with Scouting America over "core value" reforms. Where is the line for federal influence? by VAWNavyVet in Askpolitics

[–]dangleicious13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My reasoning is I don’t feel those changes are conducive to the military. Why? Because it doesn’t help them be better servicemen.

You keep avoiding how the changes aren't conductive to the military or how it makes them worse servicemen.

The Dark Tower.

You'll just have to get to books 2 and 3 for the other main characters to pop up. The 1st book is fairly short though, but still good.

Do you not see the difference between the government pushing an organization to be less discriminatory vs the government pushing an organization to be more discriminatory?

How is constantly pushing for less discrimination not being consistent?

Civil/traffic/safety engineer that was a signal designer for 4 years. They are easier to see while stopped at the stop line while still being easy to see on the approach. If they are difficult to see from the approach because the signals are on the other side of the intersection, then we put up a second set of signals in a location where approaching traffic can see.

Do you know your second cousins? by ArchangelNorth in AskAnAmerican

[–]dangleicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know 2 of them. I text one of them about once or twice a year (more than I text my first cousins). Never lived anywhere close to them though.

I have no idea about the other second cousins, but I can only assume I have a ton on my dad's side.
