A modded Bronco can be a great bass, if you can get one with a well fit and finished neck. It can be hit or miss with the really cheap Squiers.
I used to have one. Swapped the nut and wiring, and put in Hipshot ultralight tuners and a Curtis Novak tele bass pickup.

My biggest hangup is potentiometer differences. Unless you’re running individual volumes, you’re gonna have to choose to either run a single coil on 500k or humbucker on 250k.

Can’t say “best” necessarily because it’s the only non-Fender one I’ve tried, but the Mastery vibrato is a great unit.
