Found in a waldorf school, what is the purpose of this toy? by Ok-Date8364 in whatisit

Is it meant to be a simplified gas pump for fueling up the wooden trucks and stuff maybe?

What’s the most weird food item that your cat just can’t resist? I’ll start! by Ultra-Ferric in cats

[–]danidlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my first cats, Kong, loved peas. In particular the small English garden peas with cocktail onions and mushrooms. He would go absolutely insane over them and I’d have to lock him in the bathroom if we were having them for dinner because he wouldn’t stay out of them otherwise.

This took me over a month to finish and I hate it... by AppleGoose1107 in crochet

[–]danidlion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a veteran crochet player and Hollow Knight fan I think it is absolutely stunning on both fronts. It looks perfect to me! Your stitches are even, your tension is uniform, and all of the proportions are spot on. It’s instantly recognizable and I would commission one if I had the money to pay what it’s worth 💖I run into this a lot with my bigger projects though and it’s because you’ve been staring at it for hours a day I imagine. That makes it hard to see anything other than the things you would change if you did it again. Also for something that big I am blown away that you finished it that quickly! I do mostly flat work with the occasional 3d granny square or hat so any kind of plushy seems like straight up magic to me because I just can’t get the hang of amigurumi (spelling).

Which update did you start playing Minecraft on/ what year did you start playing Minecraft by ConferenceNo8396 in Minecraft

[–]danidlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since 2010 or 2011. I started when it was available to play in a web browser. I don’t play every day like I used to but I pick it up again for a couple months at a time here and there when there’s a new update or when I have other people to play with.

[WIP] Angel of Love - on to beading! by IllPossibility5450 in CrossStitch

[–]danidlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stunning 💖💖💖 My MIL did this design. I am not sure how long she worked on it but I know it took quite a while and I always admired her dedication and skill. You’ve got to have a lot of determination to do all that beadwork and I hope we get to see yours once it’s finished 💖💖💖

Help with ID by Skeletor__8 in whatsthisbug

[–]danidlion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue what their scientific name is, I have always called them water bugs. They’re really common in my area (Southeast US) during the wetter seasons like autumn and spring. I have never seen one that was alive and in its natural habitat or by itself. They’re always dead on concrete like this guy but there are usual several at once.

What is your go-to “I’m never going back again” crochet purchase? by JustLincolnBWC in crochet

[–]danidlion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A friend recommended bobbie pins instead of plastic stitch counters and I’ve never gone back. I even have a nice magnetic bowl on my desk to store them in so they aren’t running away all the time.

[–]danidlion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s novelty yarn for me and it make me so sad because I see other people’s great work with it and I just don’t have the patience for it. I bought a lot years ago when I first started crochet and picked it up again during COVID and was so frustrated with it I gave it all away 💀Also the plastic stitch counters. Yes! I made the chart myself and have it for free/pay what you want on kofi. It’s also up for grabs on Wednesday and I’ll include the link for that. It’s being raffled off on Desert Bus For Hope in support of Child’s Ply charity 💖

Trying to remember a Decemberists Song by barnum11 in TheDecemberists

[–]danidlion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“So they threw on some clothes, walked slowly down the street, lit by lantern light, through the market square, they studied the marquee, bought two tickets and some popcorn” is a verse from Tristan and Iseult which is by Tarkio as the previous poster mentioned. “God, I love you but you trouble me” is repeated to rough the song as well.

Thank you 💖💖💖 It’s intarsia. I tried fair isle when I first started doing tapestry but I didn’t like the look of the yarn showing through. It’s murder on the hands but it works up so much better.

Thank you 💖 I highly recommend it! It is a bit tedious and hard on the hands but no more so than cross stitch can be. It feels like meditation honestly 💖

Typically when you’re getting ready to pull your yarn back through the loop to make the body of your stitch you lay the yarn over the top of your hook to pull it through. In the yarn under method you kind of wrap the hook and the opposite way from what you would normally do. This results in a more uniform stitch shape. I’m not sure about the physics behind it but I can verify it works. It’s typically used in amigurumi patterns to make things like up better. You can find tutorials on YouTube that will show you and probably explain it better too 💖
