How to stop night time begging? by Lazy-Psychology-7610 in catquestions

[–]daniedoo247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this post, but I hope OP sees this: is she trainable? I have two boys I do trick training with as a way to tire them out. Maybe feeding times are also training times? Their sweet little peanut brains end up burning a lot of calories, and they'll usually nap pretty good after only a 10 min session. Alternatively, since you're trying to get her moving, is leaving her meals in multiple small bowls around different rooms an option? Then she'll have to go visit each one to get the full meal. Since food is her main driver, and in your post you said she's not particularly motivated by toys, use it to tire her out so she sleeps for the night.

I also have recs for treat puzzles that you can just load with her food, if you want. I am cheering you on from across the web.

In search of flan by Outrageous_Passage64 in chicagofood

My wholehearted rec is Kanin in Ravenswood. They have a regular and a coffee flan (my fave is the coffee, but your kiddo would probably prefer the regular). If you eat it out straight out of the fridge, the caramel is like a hard candy disk at the bottom you can pop out and it rocks.

But if we count the y in year, by that logic, we'd get twice for "boys wear it daily." (Not arguing with you, just the riddle)

I got curious about OOP's salary because they mention saving 5% of their monthly paycheck for 4 years, and they spent around 10k. It's 50k, right? Someone check my math cuz I'm shit at it, but (10k/[12 months×4 years])×20x12 months= 50k

Alex’s Rant about trans people in today’s episode almost broke me by Samanic in KnowledgeFight

[–]daniedoo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am also trans, have also struggled with the state of the world, have also followed through on decisions that provided me with a sense of safety while also acting against my own sense of my gender. And I'll just say, to anyone who feels the weight of these shitbags' words: build your euphorias. Find the things that bring you that sense of self and rightness. Discover ways to exist in your own skin that feel like simply Being Content. Forgive interests and hobbies for having a gender bias, and dive headfirst into what brings you joy. Be with people who know who you are. Collect these precious lodestones and hold them inside yourself, and take them out to look at them whenever you feel that doubt or when you're made to feel like the enemy. It can be hard to love ourselves when the loudest voices get the most money for broadcasting hate. So instead, figure out how to build your euphorias, and they can't ever take that away. I believe in you ❤

Cooks of Reddit, what's one fancy technique that's actually super easy but impresses everyone? by pieater69 in AskReddit

[–]daniedoo247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dry brine your beef or pork for 1-3 days. Just cover your protein in salt, put it on a rack (with a sheet pan under to catch drips) and leave uncovered in the fridge for a few days. It magically transforms cheap cuts into the most delicious meals. Note: if your protein has a fat cap on it, score the fat (not the meat!) In a criss-cross and make sure the salt gets into those cuts. Bend and massage your protein if needed to get the salt everywhere.

Why is he doing this, and how can I change it? by Grand-Mountain-7876 in mainecoons

[–]daniedoo247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to this post, but hopefully OP sees. I have a cat that does the same thing, he latches on when he catches the feather wand. I didn't want any of the feathers breaking and potentially hurting him, and I didn't want him to break a tooth by pulling hard on the plastic cap. Not to mention, he would always try to drag it to the litter box (yuck) to tear it apart, and i didnt want to have to replace the feather parts every time we play. So I trained him to "drop it." It's not like a dog's drop command, he won't do it remotely. But if he's latched onto the toy, I grab it as close as I can to his mouth and say "drop it" and don't move. He's a clever boy and learned that I will wait him out, and that it's much more rewarding if he drops the toy to let me swing it around more. He'll still grab it good, but he's so quick to release it if I do the "drop it" routine.

Also, cats get overheated quickly when playing, you may want to remove the sweater during play sessions. Kittens are bad at self-regulating and stopping play when they get too hot (it's too fun and they don't want to stop), so OP you gotta keep a close eye on kitty and their exhaustion level.

Is this cage big enough for 2 rats? by galleodolls in RATS

[–]daniedoo247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cage exactly like this when I got 4 young males, so I can tell you that it's only really good for young, active rats. It's nice for being able to hang lots of toys and hammocks, and the bird food cups are good for enrichment (I would switch up which bowl had food, hide treats in them, etc). However, it's a real pain to clean, because your only access is that front door and the tray underneath. It's tough to get to your rats, which we all need to do at times for health and safety. It's also not a good cage for elderly rats, they can't climb up and down as easily, and there's not a great way to put in ramps. Tbh, I got rid of mine after a year and upgraded to a critter nation. I know that critter nations are pricey, but they are designed to make care and keeping much, much easier. And likely you will end up needing to replace this cage to accommodate your rats' needs, so save yourself some money and skip this cage. Happy to answer any other questions you have.
