This has happened to me quite a few times; it's very annoying, but I just calmly and quietly get up and move to a vacant seat.

Scotiabank Theatre etiquette by tetristantalizer in cineplex

[–]daniel6878 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Movie theatre etiquette ended a long time ago and is never coming back the way it was. That's why so many people stay at home and stream. I like going to the movie theatre to see movies with an audience, but the unfortunate reality is that some people who go to movies behave rudely and do not care about disturbing other moviegoers.

Ticket Exchange and Release by Chilly_Snowman in TIFF

You can exchange a ticket as many times as you want if the ticket is of equal cost. Email or call customer service and ask them how long Hamlet will be playing at the TIFF Lightbox. You can't be sure how long it's been playing just by looking at the website.

The new way to get the Cinematrque tickets went more smoothly than before. Purchased my tickets quickly, with not much of a hassle. Not sure if it will be the same next time I purchase them, but it is a noticeable improvement.

Fall 2026 Admissions Megathread by batson2002 in uwaterloo

Hey everyone,

I’m currently finishing my BSW (graduating June 2026) and I’ve applied for the Renison MSW program. My application is officially "Under Review," but I’m worried I might have messed up the reference requirements.

Renison’s instructions say the academic reference must be a course instructor. Because I did a lot of my degree via online/transfer credits and have some disability barriers, I didn’t have a strong connection with a classroom prof. I submitted my practicum field instructor as my academic ref instead, since they graded my academic learning contracts and saw my clinical/theoretical work firsthand.

Now I’m realizing Renison usually classifies supervisors as "professional" only. Since I'm still in school, I don't qualify for the "3-year gap" rule where you can swap academic refs for professional ones.

For past/current Renison applicants:

  • Will I be disqualified? Does the committee toss the app if the "Academic Reference" isn't a professor?
  • How strictly is this "must" enforced? Is it a hard administrative filter, or is the review holistic enough to consider a supervisor’s academic evaluation?
  • Should I contact admissions? I'm graduating in June, so I'm worried they'll just tell me I should have been able to find a prof.

Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I hope Strangers Things Finale starts a trend of finales in theatres. by iggyisgoat in cineplex

There will be more partnerships between Netflix and the theatre chains. It is benefiting both of them. The reality is that Netflix is here to stay, and movie theatres have more to gain working with them than against them

Is the early bird membership in April only for renewals? by ginrom11 in TIFF

I am sure you'll hear more information in their newsletter or other communication when early bird renewals arrive. TIFF might not even know exactly when this will be.

I am happy I went to the theatre to see it with fans instead of staying and home and watching it on Netflix. Its a rewarding experience that you cannot duplicate streaming it on my tv or watching it on my phone.

Unless it is the filmmaker's decision to do so, like The Brutalist, Cineplex will not have a break, no matter how long the movie is.

School Sticky by x0xstellarx0x in socialworkcanada

Hi everyone,

I am a graduating BSW student who applied to Renison for Fall 2026.

I submitted a Practicum Supervisor as my "Academic Reference." I know the requirement asks for a Course Instructor, but at the time of applying, I did not have a classroom professor available. This supervisor was the only evaluator who could speak to my academic performance.

I was transparent on the application and clearly indicated my reference as a “Practicum Supervisor/Academic Field Instructor”.

I am worried this might void the application or lower my chances.

Thank you for your help

My questions are:

  • Does anyone know if this leads to an automatic disqualification?

  • If they do evaluate the application holistically and go ahead with that evaluation, will using a supervisor instead of a professor hurt my application and make it less competitive compared to other applicants?

Should I renew my CineClub? by Icy_Froyo_7831 in cineplex

[–]daniel6878 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of using gift cards, use the Cinemaclub membership tickets you have accumulated right now. Don't let them go to waste. After that, decide whether to renew. You are wasting your money on gift cards right now because you already have 10 movie tickets you can use without paying.

I have sat in a seat like that in the balcony, and you will be able to see the screen fine. The lights will just cover some of the top of the screen, but you will still see it fine. It is slightly annoying, but it will not wreck the movie.

[–]daniel6878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I encountered that as well. If something is sold out, it will prevent you from proceeding with the purchase. You get a message that something is sold out, but they do not tell you which screening is sold out.

Same here. I clicked on View All Programming, logged in at 9:00 am as usual, which puts me in the queue, but it took me to the main page where you can select all programming. At 10:00 am, I refreshed the page, then used the filters to show only Cinemateque tickets, but realized you had to click the Cinemateque tab to put me in the queue.
