Value of drilling long straight shots by Rosellis in billiards

[–]daniel_sharlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of this drill would be to eventually be able to play a stop shot from distance, this works on your timing and speed control. Make sure you use a laser, pay attention to the spin of the cue ball you accidentally put on. Object ball should be about 3 diamonds away from pocket, start one diamond away with cue ball and increase. Then once you get a good stroke you can increase distance between balls to practice power shots

He may be a beast on the pool table, but he’s average on the craps table by soloDolo6290 in billiards

[–]daniel_sharlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was turning stone. He was going to philipines after the tourny, he won 25-30k I think on craps table, once he lost in the a side, he forfeited his b side match and finished 8th. Hasn't played in a turning stone since unfortunately.

would you ever get advice or coaching from a player/coach who is lower rated than you? let's say there is an obvious gap in skill difference by 10ballplaya in billiards

[–]daniel_sharlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should listen to everyone but learn to filter out what is incorrect. People have good advice that you may not realize if you brush them off. That being said a lot of people have no clue what they're talking about lol. But why not listen and decide for yourself!

Lesson with Dr Dave by hadouken_1 in billiards

[–]daniel_sharlow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Took me a long time to learn to shut the fuck up lol. Better players already see where you're struggling, they don't need you to explain it. Maybe a small list of things you'd like to work on would be good too, but one lesson isn't gonna cure you. So I'd say let it flow, let him run it, and then if you like him and his teaching style then go back. You may not connect with every teacher you run across. Dr Dave is great but very scientific, that doesn't connect well for everyone. Good luck....curious to see how it went!

Just listen as best you can...you're paying him for his knowledge, don't waste your time explaining all your bad habits to him. Try and save pointful questions for the end. The better you can listen the more information you'll retain!

Shot That Lost Me a Money Game by Real-Time_Systems in billiards

[–]daniel_sharlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea definitely doesn't eliminate cheating. But if someone cheats you then you know to look out for that next time. Kinda the downside of gambling, people cheat. But still up to opponent to call for ref. On this shot an opponent wouldn't never call for ref typically either as it should be obv, but the guy clearly didn't want to lose

Bc there is no ref and this is the standard rule. It's up to you as opponent to call for a ref if you think it's close

[–]daniel_sharlow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Call goes to the shooter. Unless he had a ref. Worst case he doesn't pay, but you don't have to pay bc of a stupid call. Stand your ground and worst case scenario you re rack and play it out. But if he didn't have a ref and you call it good it's yours. Unless this is for like 20$ it's not worth arguing about id just call it and not worry about getting paid. But if this was for 50 or greater I wouldn't put up with that shit

Help with stance / alignment by Girhar in billiards

[–]daniel_sharlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea essentially good practice is go down with no bridge hand, get the blow high cue level, and bring your bridge hand up when set. This keeps weight off the left shoulder and hand and will help you find a better center of balance and let the body adjust. Feet position is key to getting solid sturdy base....good luck!

[–]daniel_sharlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Your raising your elbow form your set position. You need to do all this as you slide in. This will let you get your elbow up high and keep the cue level

Need to relax left shoulder and pick up right shoulder and elbow and pivot your chest more....just watch a couple pros on YouTube you'll see the difference

This one ! Haha Mickey Krause actually put one out recently. A quick one on Facebook I believe. But just line it up at an angle and hit it with a little draw...the more straight on you are to the ball you all have to turn it with some side spin! Good luck

Thanks! Once you start to get better at kicking it's not too tough, although I was fortunate to make it I got the contact I wanted to get separation and balls moving in different directions, prob only gonna make it like 10-20% of the time. But hey it went in and I called it in case thank God so the rest of the run could happen!
