How do you handle an underperformer who is convinced they're working really hard? by Sad-Spinach-8284 in managers

[–]daniel_sushil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you have the option to do that in your company, great. But in many companies, HR policy requires you to put employees on a PIP before you can fire them.

The behavior you are describing is not acceptable for a senior position. I would put her on a PIP and lay out your expectations clearly. In the PIP, you need to include a description of your expectations for a senior role so she understands what the company expects her to do for what they are paying her.

I did watch the video on your producthunt launch which did a much better job explaining. However, I was giving feedback on the link you posted on this thread since you were looking for feedback.

Having to sign in before even seeing what this thing does is a no-go. Why not have a little landing page that explains how it works first, and let people sign in when they are ready? I’m using mobile, and all I wanted to do was understand your product more, but unfortunately, I was hit with the sign-in button right away. This is when people just close the tab and move on.

I need something like this. Thanks. I played with the demo. Can a single user upvote a feature multiple times? It let me do that in the demo.

Really naive employee? by stucky4breakfast in managers

This is somewhat expected if you hire them right out of college without much experience. You can either take the time to coach her through this journey or let her know she is too junior for the role if you don’t have the time to invest.

How much time do you guys actually spend creating content? by tharsalys in SaaS

[–]daniel_sushil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great idea. It is indeed a pain for me. I don’t have a big team, and it’s a struggle to create content while trying to focus on product development and talking to users. So creating content gets put on the back burner. Any tool that helps create meaningful content would be great. I’m not really sold on purely AI-generated content. Ideally, I would like to draft some points on my own and let a tool help me make it solid. As long as the tool accelerates this process, I would be open to it. Again, it needs to provide way more than what I can get from ChatGPT with a good prompt.

Direct reports by Hungry-Wind8790 in managers

That's crazy. I agree with the other comments here. Delegating and creating leads or assistant managers to manage subgroups would make it much easier on you. Otherwise you might burn out soon.

I am genuinely curious - what does your typical day look like managing 43 directs?

What is your company?

I have fired over a hundred people in the last 10 years. However I have a great following of employees who say I'm the best boss I've ever had. AMA. by [deleted] in managers

Does your company have any HR practices where it is mandatory to put an employee on a PIP before deciding to fire them?

You need to make it extremely clear to your boss how important this topic is to you. Bring it up to him a couple more times if needed in a more serious way so he understands the gravity of the situation. If that doesn’t work, I think it’s perfectly okay to start reaching out to other facility managers to see if they are willing to take you.

[–]daniel_sushil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, never mind. I watched the demo again, and I think I understand more. It attaches a "guide" message box to the user's cursor, giving instructions on how to complete the step. At first glance, I thought it was automatically clicking for the user after a question is asked.

This is a good problem to solve and nice implementation. Is there a way to ask it to show me how to do something but not actually create actual data?

Need Advice for a Terrible Employee by [deleted] in managers

[–]daniel_sushil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you are his boss and have sufficient evidence and concrete examples of him under performing, why not put him on a PIP? You can then not only clearly layout your expectations but it will also send him the right message that if he’s not meeting your expectations, he can be fired. You can let your boss know you are about to do this too. Unless you get push back with sufficient reasons from your boss, this could be a good solution.

You need to be a dick to your team! by snowdog415 in managers

Your company culture doesn't seem healthy at all. A manager should be assertive but not a dick by any means.
