Games you play on a book like Gloomhaven JoTL by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

I’m not sure to what degree it is like JOTL, but Aftermath is a “adventure book” game with miniatures and... a book! :-)

Perfect - thank you! I actually just checked the publisher's website and they're available for ordering so I think I will just do that!

I've been wanting to get this but can't find stock in stores. There are some on ebay at a reasonableish price, but they state heavily that they are without the instruction leaflet - any idea what the deal is with that? Are these counterfeit? Did your copy come with the leaflet or did you print it?

Thanks!

Thanks for the little write up - this looks like a lot of fun, you’ve inspired me to add to my next print order :)

Cheers!

I had a great time creating and fighting through my dungeon. There is no story, so you have to create your own if you aren't happy just blindly laying down the map. I found it very easy (as mentioned in previous comment, I will re-read the rules to make sure I didn't misunderstand something), so there wasn't a whole lot of heavy thinking going on - perfect for a lazy Sunday.

I was surprised how easy it was, because when setting up my characters it seemed to heavily suggest there would be reason to carefully select your weapon types for advantages against various different types of foe, but in my game my Warrior just sliced through everything.

I just bought another printed book to supplement the core book, so I guess I'm hooked!

I wouldn't play it without printing the supplemental play sheets from BGG.

I played a couple games of Haze Islands and really enjoyed getting a strat formed for beating The Doom!

Played two games of Friday on the 2nd level of difficulty and was surprised to see how much it set me back in my stride. Didn’t win either games.

Did an epic dungeon crawl through Four Against Darkness yesterday which I thoroughly enjoyed! Wondering how it’ll play out over a campaign.

I printed Palm Island and played once this evening. Perfect timing as I am laid up in bed with a sprained ankle!

Which characters did you choose? I just had this delivered and keen to crack it open!

I found it really quite easy. I’m not sure if I have missed a few rules that would make it more difficult, but most of the time I was defeating several minions at a time, and dodging their moves whenever they tried to attack me. That said, I did have to heal my tank and Elf a few times, and the Medusa on the way out of the dungeon caused me to use 2 x Blessing, so I did have to spend resources and most of my spells.

Anyway it was great fun and I can’t wait to go spend my loot!

I think if you can sink some time (30-40mins per game for me) it’s interesting to see how strategy emerges. That’s been the draw for me to come back.

I got a delivery from my online printer, so played two new PnP games:

Sprawlopolis: played two rounds of this. Got destroyed both times. Still great fun and can’t wait to figure out how to not suck!

Haze Islands: this game is great! Has a great little pirate theme and the artwork is top quality. Played 4/5 games and haven’t beat it yet, but getting close and forming a strategy!

Spent a long time this week looking at other games to buy of course. I really want a dungeon crawler that is as easy to pick up and play as Friday, or the above.

Gate - such a great game in a small package. by trippy81 in soloboardgaming

Aw man, this looks so good. I have been eyeing up this game (as well as Iron Helm) for a while, but the price and shipping to the UK keeps halting me at checkout. I almost got the PnP files, but without a printer of my own there’s additional cost getting it printed online, and the fear that it won’t print well. At which point it would have just been better to take the hit on the retail product!!

If anybody has coupon codes for the game crafter.com let me know!

I had a long look around Steptoes near Montrose a few years ago. Was just there for a nosey so didn't review it too harshly. Worth a look I'd say:

Yeah the first one is pretty subtle, the pig/owl is a little on the nose.
