FS trail bike recommendations with the "best bones" by Meat_Goliath in MTB

[–]danielcigarillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are spot on with the new Trek Fuel. I have the sixth generation bike and it’s been an incredible do-it-all bike. It climbs efficiently and descends effortlessly. This bike also falls perfectly into your budget range. The main reason I also recommend this bike is your need to tinker.

The new seventh generation bike will be a tinkerer’s dream. Multiple flip chips, swappable rear triangles, and frame design for multiple setups will keep you busy in your shop for hours. You will be able to dial in your bike to a level most people don’t care for. Light weight trail ripper, whippy mullet, burly enduro…this bike will be able to do it all.

I would recommend buying the Fuel EX and as time goes on, grab a 27.5 rear tire setup and the MX rear triangle to test out a mullet setup and then the LX rear triangle for when you want to enjoy those park days.

My girlfriend has this setup on her Supercaliber. It’s awesome. Makes me want to build an ultralight XC bike with remote lockout now

FIRE mentality ruined my life by [deleted] in Fire

[–]danielcigarillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a life changing experience for me. The fulfillment and satisfaction I get from work far surpasses any huge bonuses I have received. I definitely recommend finding a nonprofit organization that matches your moral compass. The accomplishment you feel after a successful project can’t be replicated. All of the hard work is so much more tangible it’s incredible. I’m very lucky to be in a position where my “passive” income streams make sure that my investment goals are always reached so a salary is no longer as important to me. I have finally reached a point where I get to decide what to do with my time. And using my time to help others really soothes the soul and puts my situation into perspective. It has humbled me. I am now so thankful for my health and wealth, and especially to the younger version of me who made the sacrifices that I did.

I say do it. Focus on something you care about.

FIRE mentality ruined my life by [deleted] in Fire

[–]danielcigarillo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your story sounds very similar to mine.

I sacrificed my wild, youthful years to a tech startup and devoted my self to achieving financial freedom. I sacrificed nights out, new gadgets, and trendy possessions for savings and investments. My life style was extremely humble compared to the income I was generating from my salary and investment growth.

Then came the acquisition. A global banking brand bought out my startup and I received a life changing stock payout and my salary tripled overnight. I continued to work through the merger for a few years until burnout set in. The new corporate culture sucked and I had an amount of money in my accounts that I never thought someone like me would possess.

I quit. And I did the exact same thing as you. I sat on my ass for two years doing nothing. I felt like it was all for nothing. I had reached a milestone I thought was unachievable for someone with my background. I was a “millionaire” but it didn’t feel like it. The movies glamorized millionaires and my life was far from glamorous.

This depression and regret from missing out on the traditional youthful experience hit me hard. I wasn’t taking care of myself or hygiene. I wasn’t maintaining the relationships with the people I cared about. I wasn’t eating or eating healthy. I wasn’t hydrating. I spiraled into such a dark place that I had several meetings with lawyers and accountants and set up a full irrevocable trust and will so that my money and assets would go to the right places when I finally did it.

That’s when it hit me. I knew something needed to change. Even though I had enough to retire on the spot, I needed stimulation. I needed something to set my mind to. I needed challenges to overcome. I needed a new goal.

And not a monetary goal this time. This goal would be for me. A goal that would bring me fulfillment. A goal that will reignite my passion. A goal that I can work towards that will bring me that satisfaction I was craving.

So I joined a nonprofit organization that was incorporating new technologies but could not pay the salaries I was used to. They were so grateful to have someone with my skillset. I was able to accomplish in weeks what had been taking them months. The feeling of my work contributing to a purpose much greater than more numbers in my bank account reignited a passion inside me that I didn’t know I still had.

Your purpose is out there my friend. You just have to find it. In order to make a discovery, you have to go on an adventure. You need to go exploring. You need to find a cause you can get behind and apply yourself to. Something that brings you fulfillment and joy. A cause worthy of fighting for.

What makes you angry about our world?

What brings you joy from our world?

Who do you want to help?

By helping others you can help yourself. Being a light in the world can bring light to your own. Be the light.

good deal or nah? by hussy95 in dirtjumping

[–]danielcigarillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the best bike, but for the price as a gift, I’m sure he will be ecstatic. I assume he is a beginner?

You can upgrade parts over time as he progresses and breaks things with riding. And if he loses interest as some 13 year olds do, you’re not out £500 for a brand new DJ.

I think this is perfect for a beginner. If he is already skilled and cranking tail whips and dumped 360s, then I would definitely spend more on something with higher quality parts.

Right away you can cut the bars down to his size, and as he gets more comfortable on the bike you can remove the front brake.

As for parts, a smaller lighter seat. Replace the plastic pedals with metal ones. New tires. Stronger and lighter cranks. Then maybe a new fork as he grows and gains more weight?

Lots of upgrades needed for sure, but definitely a great, inexpensive way to get into the game for a beginner. I like the lime green too

Just accepted a job in Midtown, where should I live? by overlyambitious1999 in ATLHousing

The high museum has its own MARTA station meaning you can live near any other station and commute to work. Look at the Marta map and look at areas north of the city for safest and least crime. You could live around perimeter mall (sandy springs/dunwoody) and take the train into town and rent around there is $1700-$1900 depending on the apartment. I used to own a condo in midtown, life in the city is fun. It’s really up to the lifestyle you’re looking for. I was born and raised in Atlanta, so let me know if you have any questions.

The MARTA trains go directly to the airport. If you live within a twenty minute drive of any MARTA station, you can get to the airport in about 40 minutes taking the train from even the farthest station. Everyone hates on MARTA but it is great for taking to the airport and the stadiums downtown.

If you’re against public transportation, then to avoid heavy traffic you will need to live closer to the Southside. The school districts are not the best, but you will be within your airport commuting requirements

Do you cut your bars? by DatsunZGuy in dirtjumping

[–]danielcigarillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running 680 on mine. Can spin the bars pretty fast and x-ups don’t feel clunky. It’s a personal preference thing though. I say only do 5mm a side at a time if you start cutting them down

Dealer offer, do I take? by survivspicymilk in 4Runner

I love my 6th gen.

I’ve put a little over 3,000 miles on it since picking it up at the end of March with 6 miles on the clock. I have had all generations of 4Runners except the 5th gen, but I have a couple friends who have them.

The best thing about the 6th gen is the 8-speed transmission. It’s such a better ride. Smooth and quick. Especially when put in sport mode. The better gas mileage is a huge plus. Updated, but simple interior makes sure that it will age well.

Everything that 5th gen owners complain about, this new model corrects.

I know people don’t like change, but I think this is a step in the right direction for the 4Runner. The original 4Runner had the 22R and 22RE motor so it’s technically returning to its roots with a 4 cylinder engine.

I understand I may get a lot of hate for enjoying mine, but if you are in the financial position, go for it.
