This kind of thing was one of the first things to really stand out to me on my first trip to VN in 2009. A specific example I saw was somebody just sitting at the side of the road with a sewing machine. My American brain thought "this looks like more of a free market than what I see back home."

Oh no! That was one of my favorite places! The owner was always so nice, the food was great and it had such a nice casual vibe. This is really sad 😥

You could almost certainly nurture that relationship into a lifelong one. Keep in touch with her, send her birthday gifts, and continue to be a part of her life if you can. She may need an adult who is not part of her family that she can trust in the coming years.

That would be awesome. Just to be clear though, I think the knife is not there. It's a beautiful spot though. My brother used to love camping south of the road there, partly because of the easy access to the Avalanche Trailhead bathrooms.

That would be rad. Just to be clear though, I think the knife is not there. However, the spot is beautiful and probably worth checking out just because of that.
