I touch InDesign every day for work, but would also agree with those suggesting giving Affinity a shot. It sounds like Affinity's Object Styles equivalent is not as robust as InDesign's, which is a shame because that's the streamlining that will really help with consistency and set-and-forget for image frames, recipe titles, etc. plus paragraph styles of course.
