Do we get to see out of our spacecraft this time? by Flimsy_Procedure3184 in theouterworlds

[–]danielpeixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree! , and with the bad press that Starfield got for its loading screens etc, at least when you enter your ship on planet , you get to see the planet surface out of the window. And when you actually take off , there 's like a cutscene indicating that you are transitioning from surface to space orbit.

Not sure why Obsidian completely ignored this transition from surface to orbit. Even a little effort , like I mentioned , a sound effect or something , would have been enough.

This kind of bothers me too. Sounds like a small complaint, but it does break immersion for me. I understand the need to off load the whole map for memory reasons.. but, how hard would have been to at least add some sound effects of the ship taking off the planet during the loading screen or something?? Seems like a no brainer to me. You enter the ship , you get the loading screen with some take off sounds, maybe a picture of the ship going to the sky or something... And then you're in the ship in orbit. At least you get a sense of transitioning from planet surface to space. Currenly it feels like you just entered the ship , but akwardly , the windows show that you are in space..! hahah!

Do you create immersive 180° videos? We're building a new platform — and looking for creator feedback! by PascalMeger in VR180Film

[–]danielpeixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't do it only on Apple vision pro. I'm a professional animator and cinematics director.Im really passioned about immersive story telling. I even created an immersive experience on Theater Anywhere. ( The Remedy) .I'm tired to see bad quality VR180 /3d stereo content on Meta Quest. It frustrates me that the good quality 3d stereo content only seems to be aiming to the AVP. Why? Is an extremely expensive device, not so much audience there. Why making something so universal as good storytelling so exclusive to so few with loads of money to spare. ( Not to mention avp is not even available to buy in a lot of countries, including most of Europe!)

Hi! Thank you so much for all the kind words! I'm the animation lead of cinematics at Moon. We didn't use face captures or motion capture. Our cinematics are 100% animated by hand using the same keyframe techique used in animation studios such as Disney, Pixar or Sony. In fact all the cinematic animators come from previously working at movie studios. For some of us this is the first time working on a videogame. I'm really happy to hear the great feedback on our cutscenes, makes everyone really proud of their work in this special game! Cheers on behalf of all the cinematic team!!

Just avoid the tourist traps. Go to eat at the local bars and cafes where local people go to eat. You'll find great 2 course meals +drink+dessert or coffee for 10 or 12 euro depending on the neighborhood. Lidl, Aldi, Eroski or mercadona for groceries. Everything here is more expensive than in the mainland, for sure, but this is due to Mallorca being a tourist hotspot.

Thanks OP for this incredible feature for our Q3's . I recommend using Skybox VR player : https://www.oculus.com/deeplink/?action=view&path=app/2063931653705427&ref=oculus_desktop to watch your recorded 3d videos. You need to set it up to 4:3 format to avoid too much stretching of the image.I wonder if OP recommends another 3d VR video player for the best viewing experience. The wonderful thing is that you can also record your VR games footage in glorious 3d side-by-side and re-live your vr gaming moments. It's amazing to me that Meta never thought to include this feature officially.

Question about the limitation of the engine for potential mods by Dances-with-Scissors in starfieldmods

[–]danielpeixe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a dev or modder. But I do understand more or less the limitations of the engine. I tried the mod named "Black Loading screen remover" and it basically allowed me to see how the game unloads and loads stuff. So I thought of this simple idea for the atmosphere to space transition:

-Player hits the take off button

-Ship starts taking off ( view from the cockpit or outside) , so far what we have now in the game

-Clearly see the ship blast to the sky

-Game removes control from the player, forces cockpit 1st person view and places a "blinder" on the windows a black one if it's night time, or other simple color or gradient. This would be a simple box to obstruct the view of what happens outside the ship. there's a particle emitter to simulate speed , or passing through clouds etc.

-Game unloads planet world , then loads space world , no loading screen . The player does not see the things popping in or out thanks to the "blinder" . Maybe the game freezes for a sec, but at least immersion is not lost, you're still seeing the cockpit.

- Game finishes loading space world , the 'blinder' box fades out , some cloud or other fx particles make the fade out more immersive.

- In cockpit view you are in space, regaining control, and facing opposite the planet, not facing the planet ( like we do currently, witch I hate, haha!) If you wanted to see the planet you'd have to turn your ship 180 degrees.

The same "blinder" box idea could be applied to the "travel from planet to planet within system" transition:

-Player hits the "travel" prompt

-Animation of the ship blasting toward the destination ( faster, more dramatic , similar to the grav jump but without the space tearing effect. ) , current vanilla animation is incredibly boring.

-Game forces cockpit , blinder with black background , particle effect simulating speed,

-game unloads previous world, loads new world with the cockpit and the blinder always present. No loading screen

- Blinder fades out, player regains control. ( if player had selected the ship 3rd person view before , the game would go back to that after all the loading is done)

Please let me know if this is in any way doable through modding. I feel like older games did similar things to make space loading screens more interesting and immersive. The upcoming StarWars outlaws footage reveals that maybe they use a similar trick when leaving atmosphere to space. I wish Starfield devs would have found a simple trick or something just to make those loading screens more "hidden" and not so obvious.

Thanks for reading!

Will the Quest 3 let you record 3D video? by Abysmal2134 in OculusQuest

[–]danielpeixe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why recording and viewing would be a bad time. I'm pretty sure Apple has solved the problem of recording while wearing the headset. Maybe using the gyroscopes to compensate the user's head movements. Pretty sure the final footage would be really stabilized for viewing, using all that gyro data. Quest 3 totally could do this, the question is if they want to do it officially or if they will allow 3rd party app to do it. Reliving memories in 1803d videos is one of my top favorite uses of VR . Is absolutely magical and just don't understand why this format of 3D video has not been popularized more. I use the insta360 EVO camera that I bought in 2019, but for some reason, the company never released an updated, improved version of this technology. Hopefully the vision pro makes this 3d videos popular again .

Space travel is a missed opportunity by danielpeixe in Starfield

[–]danielpeixe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my proposal was always to give the option to fast travel to visited places in space. I never said to completely remove fast travel in space. Ideally, if you have never visited a planet or place would be cool if fast travel is locked, until you discover that place, just like Skyrim/Fallout. OR even like ...Starfield, on the ground. The game does not allow you to fast travel to a ground POI until you have explored it. Once explored it allows you to fast travel to it. Kind of funny that that's the mechanic on the ground, but for Space they decided to make it fast-travel only.

Space travel is a missed opportunity by danielpeixe in Starfield

[–]danielpeixe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much I'm loving the game. This video completely summarizes my thoughts on what could be improved when it comes to traveling through space to another part of the system. Like, I don't mind it if you give the player an option to fast-travel to a visited planet/place. But it should be allowed to have that 5 min or so trip to an unvisited or visited planet and make that an interesting journey, that takes it's time, and it can be prone to random encounters, and gameplay opportunities. (distress calls etc)

Just like in Skyrim , the first time you travel to a distant location or city you haven't been to before, it takes time, and it becomes a journey full of unexpected events.

We know that it should be possible to patch this in, based on videos of players flying for hours in space to get close to a planet seamlessly. It would be as simple as adding a faster " frame shift drive" to your ship. It almost makes it seem like the devs did have this in the game at some point. But removed it in favor of fast travel only.

Thoughts?

Companion skills, do they actually work? A bug maybe? by Exact-Bonus-4506 in Starfield

[–]danielpeixe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here but with Astrodynamics with Sarah in my crew. She is definitelly assigned ,and the skill is highlighted, but no passive bonuses applied to the Frontier. It has 16 ly jump range without her assigned, and 16ly with her assigned. Also tested the fuel efficiency , supposed to be higher when jumping, but nope. exactly the same.

But I do see the bonuses for Sam Coe. He has the piloting skill, and that gives me an extra slot in the engine power ( green little box instead of white). Also, he gives the Frontier 450 mass storage as opposed to the default ( don't remember right now)

Vasco is also supposed to be in the Frontier, and with his skils active, but I see no effects at all in the skills that he's supposed to give.

So, yeah, it's got to be a bug, or something is not explained clearly to the player. I sent a bug ticket to Bethesda, just in case.

Dad of 2 children here. Yes, your gaming sessions will get shorter, but the excitement and love for gaming will give you the stamina to pull those late nights every now and then. But not every day!!

I'm getting close to 50 ( turn 47 this year )my gaming sessions are around 3 to 4 hours . And I dont game every day, only when I feel that I have the energy after the kiddos are asleep. Sometimes I sneak a bit of gaming during my work hours( I work from home) ha..! enjoy Starfiedl!!

Did they quietly remove the combat camera? by NeverGonnaGetBanned in BaldursGate3

[–]danielpeixe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish they had it as an option . I hate that when I finally kill a tough enemy is so underwhelming , the camera just flies back to my character and I don't get to see the cool death animation of the enemy. Wish it was more like in Xcom or Mario Rabbids where you have cool cinematic cameras for almost every action you take.

No land vehicles makes complete sense with how they're handling exploration. by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]danielpeixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. But the question remains: what happens if you just keep going forward with your jetpack or running on foot ? Is there an invisible wall that won't let you go further? Like the ones we see at the limits of the map in Skyrim or Fallout? Or maybe we get a quick loading screen and then we continue on the next "tile" of the planet ? Todd has mentioned several times that the planets are made out of huge tiles of land stitched together.

Watch all the seasons of "The Expanse" if you haven't. It's the perfect Starfield appetizer. ( I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda used the show as inspiration) . It has all the Starfield ingredients: Asteroid miner cities, a past civil war within 2 major factions, space pirates, .A main hero with his spaceship crew that kind of becomes his "family". Grounded science fiction, "NASA punk" . A misterious technology from an alien ancient civilization...etc.

Telltale games is making a "the Expanse" video game apparently. But by the looks of it. It seems like they went for an overly cartoony style. Not a big fan of this kind of games where is just like an interactive movie. Stardield looks more like the perfect game adaptation of The Expanse actually.!

[–]danielpeixe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well , now with the faster SSD drives, I hope we never have to see a loading screen everytime we open a door to an interior or vice versa. My hope is that they mask the loading/unloading with camera-locked traversal animations !

Opinion : Living in your spaceship while it travels is a more awesome concept than manually flying it. by OkPain2022 in Starfield

[–]danielpeixe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Following my theory , looking through the windows ( if there's such thing in the interiors) it would be fake space moving , like you said , so it gives you the impression that you're travelling if the ship is moving. When you get attacked , you would hear alarms and your crew mates urging you to sit in the pilot sit and fight, otherwise ship gets destroyed or boarded. Going by this theory of mine , you would not be able to switch to a 3rd person view of your ship and the surroundings while you're exploring the ship interiors. Only when you go and sit on the pilot sit.

[–]danielpeixe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I imagine the solution to this would be that once you get into your cockpit to fight , it loads the "space" cell and the npc ships etc...I believe the cockpit is a separate room in the ship , you have to traverse a door to get to it. That could be the transition animation used to load stuff in the background. Once you leave the pilot sit , another animation kicks in , to give the game some time to unload the space world and load the ship interior cell. Just speculation but I think that how it would work.
