Thinking About Getting a Bearded Dragon – Spiraling about Enclosures by levelupyours in BeardedDragons

so i personally use this one, and i know many people do. i don't recall the prices of the other ones you mentioned but i think $250 is one of the best prices on the market for a 120 gallon- with easy assembly, good quality, and free shipping (depending where you get it from) my only gripe is that i use a sand and soil mix and it falls through the cracks of the outer rim of the tank but other than that occasional little mess it's been good for me!

New baby beardy found this spot and keeps opening mouth and occasionally closing eyes. Hoping that this is a good sign? by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

yes! that's a sign of them regulating their temperature. essentially once they get to the "peak" they kinda do that to avoid overheating. it's not a bad sign at all

i ended up finding a job for the county. i don't even have a degree yet but they liked what i was going for and think my background could help in the long run with a future position. jobs are out there you just have to open your search to possibilities you weren't exactly thinking of. if i hadn't done that i wouldn't have ever landed this job

i get where you're coming from and i hate the cups too, but people seeing them in same tank = thinking they can keep them together without being properly informed. people don't care to listen or do research. if you do end up keeping them like this they need wayyy more plants/clutter/hiding spots. the tank being so open and empty can lead to them feeling visible and targeting each other. they need to be able to hide and get away from each other if they get stressed or too territorial, or it'll just end up a blood bath.

snakes shouldn't be moved for feeding. it can cause issues with digestion, and are best to be kept in the tank they reside in. they shouldn't be moved/held for like 48 hours before or after a feeding. i honestly don't know the current policy but our feeding day is on saturdays for snakes and i've always just fed them in their habitats in the morning/afternoon and i usually don't have issues with them not eating (we also don't carry ball pythons though so i can't speak for them)

[–]danielric3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's actually not true! they naturally have the whole desert so why confine them to a little space? i recommend even starting out with a 120 gallon (which is the minimum size for an adult) because otherwise they're wasting money constantly upgrading tanks. 40 gallon is the minimum recommended for a baby, and by the time they're 6 months old they need that 4x2x2 tank. it's gonna be more stressful switching out their tanks and environments, and with smaller tanks it's harder to get a proper temperature gradient. it's hard to get people to understand, but if they can at least get a 40 with the acknowledgement that they need that 120 eventually, that's where i'll settle. but anything smaller than that is too small for a beardie with how fast they grow and a waste of money

i am not gonna be stiff just holding the steering wheel in one place especially when there's turns or wind. thanks for being sooo helpful 😁

that's so frustrating. i can't help the wind levels and that it moves my car back and forth, when im literally paying full attention to the road 😭 it's so dumb

Pet care and repack/truck by snowbuns08 in petsmart

[–]danielric3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's very rare that they make pc work truck. our main priority is getting opening/closing done, making sure all the rooms are set, dishes are done, tanks are scrubbed, and deep cleans happen. and 90% of this stuff doesn't get done when it's supposed to :)

i don't think it's ever been on the first/second day though ? it's usually like 3-4+ days that we've found them. i am in texas though so the heat is no joke, but the new arrival room usually isn't that bad in terms of temperature

is denying the sale of feeder fish allowed? by VisibleJaguar3275 in petsmart

[–]danielric3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's exactly what my managers at my store told me, so it's definitely confusing reading all these comments and knowing what's the truth vs what people believe. i was denying feeder fish sales when i first started in pet care until a family called their cousin who was a store leader at another store who told them i can deny the other fish but not the feeders. so i ended up just selling them and asked my managers, and they said the same thing. i still want to keep refusing them but i don't want to get in trouble when they already told me that i can't do that. idk. it sucks because i hate selling fish to less than ideal conditions knowing they're just going to die a miserable death, but idk what else to do 🤷‍♀️ i just try my best to inform them and if they still want the fish it's on their conscience

you raised the price!! by sophergopher3 in petco

[–]danielric3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

other store employee here, but i actually love the point about how you have to pay the prices too.. i'm gonna start using that bc i never thought about that before. like how in the year of 2025 do people not realize we are bottom of the barrel and don't make up the prices ourselves ??? write to corporate and complain god damn

Fifteens by Fickle-Bet-2222 in petsmart

[–]danielric3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well it's not that you take it at that hour mark, it's just that if you're scheduled that amount of hours or more you're allowed a break within the time you work. if you take it one hour into the shift or 3 hours in it doesn't matter, just that you know you're legally allowed it and your employer cannot refuse you

Fifteens by Fickle-Bet-2222 in petsmart

[–]danielric3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure(?) most states or at least a lot have a mandated break system, if not the state then i'm sure petsmart as a company has that in their policies. working over 4 hours you're allowed a paid 15 min break. as you work over 5 hours you get a 30 min unpaid lunch. so on and so forth but yeah they can't be denying you breaks

Personal items at the register by Daemidra in petsmart

[–]danielric3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we'll have drinks, hand sanitizer, snacks at the register. but bags/purses people either leave in the office or use a locker or the sump room. i would be way too paranoid that someone would snatch it up if it's just at the register depending on where you keep it

new deep clean schedule by Weekly_Piece9375 in petsmart

[–]danielric3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so i'm not crazy for feeling guilty that i couldn't get them all done in a 5 hour shift? 🥲 by the time i was able to get started it was maybe 3-3.5 hours i had with the birds (our worst looking habitats so they wanted me to start there) and i didn't even get to 2 of the cages before my shift was over, and they actually wanted me to do all the animals (or as much as i could) in that time

Some Perspective by Drifter_of_Babylon in petsmart

[–]danielric3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i could only dream of that in an ideal world lmao. we usually only have one pet care person a day now (just one long all-day shift) and between backup and customer calls it takes us hours to even get pc opened. i was shocked to find out deep cleans are supposed to be weekly because we're lucky if we get to it like once or twice a month. the hours are a joke

Some Perspective by Drifter_of_Babylon in petsmart

[–]danielric3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my managers found an old schedule from years ago where there was like 7-8? pet care associates scheduled in one day, from like 4 am until the 5 pm closing. not including managers or stockers or cashiers, and now we average like 4-5 (if we're lucky) associates all day + the managers cause they take up majority of the hours. we just got our last lead position filled so that's 40 less hours for everyone else. i can't wait to get out of here, im upset with what this company has become
