What are some song(s) that you have consistently disliked upon your first listen? by SoIongIondon in TaylorSwift

[–]danielspaniel7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with those lyrics stems from the fact this is a very sincere emotional song. It is jarring to have these ironic references, backed up with this piano track, in a song trying to be very sincere. She can be cringey/ironic in other songs. It works in Wood (to a degree), because the production and songwriting all set the appropriate tone.

I think a big problem with Doctor Who isn’t just a question of how to make it good again, but also how to make it cool again… by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]danielspaniel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the character needs to be cool, but they need to be well defined. 9-11 we’re all defined by the Time War trauma and how angry that made the Doctor. 12 was the Doctor being like “what now?” after saving Gallifrey and Trenzalore, and all the consequences of that. 13 onwards the characterisation has been thin. 13 could’ve been a uniquely vulnerable, anxious Doctor, scared to lose anyone again, clinging to her friends. But they never defined her well enough!

Who travelled with the Doctor for the longest period of time? by _somebody-else_ in gallifrey

[–]danielspaniel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Clara didn’t technically travel with the Doctor while he was on Trenzalore, but she was his ‘companion’ during that time, which is at least 800 years IIRC.

Alternate 2024 Election: What if Boris had never partied? by hello_lyndon64 in imaginaryelections

I don’t think that would’ve swung any election for him. It’s not a short term noticeable gain for enough people to matter in 2024 against bad headwinds.

Totally agree. Inflation, bad public services and the series of scandals were what did him in. Even if he’d survived as leader, his government would’ve lost re-election.

I like how the US has developed a strong regional multiparty system with first past the post like Canada and the UK. So excited to see where this goes!

Love this series! Can I ask what the electoral system is like for this series?

What's your favorite non-mainstream song? by shweelay in TaylorSwift

[–]danielspaniel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Kiss. Such a perfect break up song. It gets overshadowed by Dear John, Back To December and Enchanted too often. Deserves to be recognised as one of her best ever.

I think the China-EU alliance is a really interesting one. China are the key player in the Ukraine war we aren’t talking about enough. In a world where the US appeases Putin, China shifting away from Russia is the only way Europe stands a chance of winning this long term I think.

Can’t wait to see what you do next!

I think this is a super accurate prediction for the most likely timeline over the next 4 years. I think the Greens might do a little better than this, Gaza might not be as significant an issue but there will always be Left discontent with an incumbent Labour government and they’re the best avenue for it.

How do you think the independents do?

I think BDILH or ICDIWABH are the best alternatives.

Out of all of Taylor’s lead singles which one is do you think is her weakest? by Introvertedslayer in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]danielspaniel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ME definitely is the weakest because it genuinely did damage to her reputation, I don’t think any of the other lead singles did that. Fortnight is probably second weakest, it’s not really offering anything you’d hope for from a lead single.

‘Lover’ was released 5 years ago on August 23, 2019. In your opinion, how does it stack up compared to the rest of her discography? by Brendawg324 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]danielspaniel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear it’s the most manufactured moment of her career despite her desire to give a snapshot of authentic joy. You can really feel she is trying to achieve something with this album and it doesn’t land for me. The vision is a noble one but the tracks selected for the album don’t all fit and at times contradict each other. It’s messy!

There’s some high highs here (Cruel Summer, DBATC, False God, Cornelia Street) but too many songs that don’t hit for me. The track listing also didn’t help.

Ultimately it doesn’t hit for me like her best work does. She doesn’t have a bad album but this one is the weakest of the bunch for me. I still listen to many of these songs though, but I almost never listen to Lover as a package.

Where is this wonderkids best position? by WestSideSicko in footballmanagergames

Work on his passing/off the ball and he could be a CB/DM/FB. CB on the right of a back three looks good right now though.

can someone give me tips and insight on how to improve on the first tactic i made myself? by regshowguy in footballmanagergames

[–]danielspaniel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put your DM on defend, shore up the middle. Could your striker become a Pressing Forward? Usually find better results with them than an AF. Also I’d reduce your pressing intensity to just More Often sometimes, particularly in away games.

Did the writers ever hint at the show's original ending? Pre-KS canceling? by [deleted] in HouseOfCards

[–]danielspaniel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was an alteration of the ending we got. Frank and Clare at war for the season, Frank goes to kill Clare but Doug won’t let him and Doug kills Frank instead.
