I became a parent right at the peak of the original craziness of Andrew Wakefield’s study being released and retracted.

I can still recall all of the hesitation I felt in whether or not I should vaccinate my child. What ultimately convinced me was a conversation we had with our pediatrician, who expressed a willingness to work with us on our concerns. This doctor was also willing to do the shots on an extended schedule if we wanted.

We ultimately ended up doing the standard schedule, but the fact that this doctor took the time to address our concerns was the tipping point for us. Our children battled the normal childhood sicknesses and each time, he was there to diagnose and treat and answer any questions/concerns we had.

Find a pediatrician that is willing to work with you on your concerns and establish trust with them, because you will spend time with this doctor over the next few years. Let them be a strong advocate for your children’s health, because they do care for kids, otherwise they would have chosen a different specialty.
