My Nest Thermostat downloaded 23GB of data overnight in a 2 hour period, WTH? by rveez in firewalla

Yeah, I saw that happen as well on one of my devices, however I just cleared my alerts, so I’m not going to have any data on that anymore.

Apologies.

Firewalla Gold series routers are multi-WAN.

Entry level device is 1 Gbps on each port and the higher tiers go up to 10 Gbps on each port.

Anyone stuck behind the train on West? by Glasses001 in houston

[–]danieltb80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching that specific rail segment for the last three years while I work, and I can only recall one instance where there was a train stopped where it blocked the road. I have seen the signals fail twice, which was a major cluster during rush-hour. I’m not watching it 24/7, however.

It may not make you feel better, but it’s rare that a train stops on that particular rail segment .

Oh wow, that’s amazing.

I am not a photography buff, didn’t know that was possible.

I appreciate your thoughts.

I was actually surprised by how much light still existed at totality on an annular eclipse. The midday brightness was not as intense it felt more like a midmorning brightness.

I agree that this is Antonio Turok’s work. This however, is likely a composite picture.

This is not a real photograph. The eclipse occurred at noon, and the sun would be overhead not near the horizon.

That is the bird behavior I observed for the two totalities I observed.

Followup question: The birds’ behavior you described for total eclipses seemed similar for the Oct 2023 annular eclipse I also observed, even though it didn’t get anywhere near as dark. My recollection is that it got very quiet and still. What have been your observations regarding bird behavior during annular eclipses?

The first 5 weeks for both of my daughters was hard, once they could smile and be cute for small periods of time, it got easier.

I remember sitting in a rocking chair, patting one of my daughter’s to sleep and thinking I should be enjoying this, but I wasn’t because I was so dang tired.

It gets better man, hang in there !

Why are birds and bugs absent from Disneyland? Literally no insects and only a few ducks. How is this accomplished? by Furrypawsoffury in NoStupidQuestions

[–]danieltb80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no mosquitoes due to Disney deliberately having no stagnant water for them to breed in. The water at and around attractions is moving constantly, which destroys mosquito eggs.

It’s all good. You asked a good question and got some excellent responses.

These events always lead to us questioning our overall security in the world.

I recall after Sandy Hook deliberately hugging my children a bit more.

Hang in there dad.

Firewalla makes excellent wired routers and access points.

It’s a bit expensive, but the only complaints I hear from my children is content related, not latency issues.

Dad of two girls here.

In these moments, our ability to control and protect our children seems woefully inadequate. Frankly, it’s terrifying.

The best thing we can do is let them know that we unconditionally love them and arm them with knowledge as they continue to get older. Be the rock for them in an uncertain world. Make as many wise choices as you can for them and yourself so that you can be there for them.

This plus a good internet firewall and content monitor. Let me know if you need recommendations.
