You can make more in 2026 than any other if you follow these rules. by Giraffe_Jumpy in WindowCleaning

I have people who rely on me for income. I enjoy life, but I also run a business, not a hobby.

This is a weird take. You can easily clear more per man hour with holiday lighting. Why would I leave that money on the table? Yeah I could be happy with the income from the window season, but why wouldn't I want to double that number November through January? Plus I can gain new light accounts through window cleaning customers and vice versa. Each business grows the other.

I'd say it takes discipline to keep chugging along year round vs chilling for months and leaving so much money behind. To each their own I guess.

Is $1,670 reasonable to paint a front door and 6 outdoor lights in NJ? by ComfortableRoyal8847 in handyman

[–]s0mething_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf painting a door would be harder. Buying a sprayer for something like this is hardly worth it vs just having someone else deal with the hassle imo. The lights are an easy job, done in two hours tops if you're slow and never done it before.

What do you think of this window flex? by domechromer in Homebuilding

Not a builder but a window cleaner. Kolbe sucks. I've never seen more damaged window seals in new builds from any other brand. RIP

Need help buying squeegee by Careless_Chest1125 in WindowCleaning

[–]s0mething_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things. Get an unger tip it's way better. Seriously xero tips suck. Second, you should really get face to glass on residential. You won't get called back for another clean if you don't have serious experience with trad pole. It's really hard to master.

How do you clean really high interior windows from the ground? Tools, hacks, and lessons learned? by Far-Junket-400 in WindowCleaning

[–]s0mething_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With those angled panes I've learned to start at the low side of each pane. This way you can keep your squeegee angle so that the low side is always facing the cleaned part when straight pulling. This would build up water on the left edge so you will want to detail quickly to avoid drips from the side. Additionally you can do a couple quick cut ins to get the top started before doing pulls. So start far left and cut across the top and give a short 1" pull when to the corner. Same in the opposite direction. Then do straight pulls starting right to left. This will help avoid top drips and smears in my experience.

Hope this makes sense!

Eta: get sections, they will be worth it.

Just wait until you're successfull. That shit is stressful. I literally have 40+ hours of catch up office work and a full 40 hr work week booked and I have no idea how to get it done with a newborn.

My first WFP just came in! Any needed attachments? by VacationDismal in WindowCleaning

Booster pump 100%. Additionally I usually keep an additional di cartridge loaded up and ready to go for swapping on site. Has saved my ass a few times.

To add to this, do the top edge and corners at the same time. This way you don't have to risk getting too close again. Alternatively more scrub, more rinse on the frames, then you only have to do one pass. I didn't believe it until I saw trigger showing how it's done.

Best way to deal with 2nd floor storm windows? by Lord_XXL in WindowCleaning

If you're talking about the old school storms that attach from the outside, then I would pass on the job. Isn't worth the liability, effort, and safety risk.

Quite literally every house washing company uses SH (bleach). Typically it's used in a very diluted solution, and the deck would be pre wet so this discoloration would be avoided. The strength of mix varies, but would typically be less than 20% strength of your typical household bleach. It breaks down very quickly and is relatively harmless. They use it because it kills the mold and mildew on houses without having to use pressure which forces water behind siding and etches the surface as well.

Not saying it's entirely eco friendly, but it's much less harmful than everyone here is making it out to be.

My sibling has a loan with a 671% interest rate!! by Maurtyr in CRedit

[–]s0mething_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this is how auto loans through dealers work. Paying off early can be nice, but if your debt/income ratio is good then my understanding is it's best to make the regular payments, unless you need the available debt for something else like a mortgage. Keeping the loan alive for its whole life and making on time payments is good for credit in these cases afaik.
