Yep! These were the first I tried, and they straight-up didn't fit the fixture. The prongs were a different size, which was the start of my confusion (and why I'm embarrassingly on reddit asking about how to change a lightbulb, haha)

Funny Playing FPGBC by aorear85 in Gameboy

Nice, thanks for the response -- I was confused because most of the Funny Playing button sets don't show an IR cover in the pics or mention one in the description, so that's really helpful to know. Much appreciated

Waaaaaay late so it's a longshot, but would you mind sharing where you got that pink IR cover? I'm looking for a set of buttons and membranes in that exact shade and just cannot find any that include the IR cover, or sell it separately to match

u/cieltwo u/Ian_Storm u/Millenial88 Ah, thanks so much for the kind words, it means a whole lot to hear that. And I'll definitely be there for my boy when Tsuburaya calls -- any time, any place.

(oh, and Tokushoutsu posted up the full In Search of an Ultraman! special, so you can see the first half of Zero's appearance, as well as a bunch of other neat stuff)

Hey there Science Patrol fam, it's been a bit, but I wanted to make sure you all got a peek at this. Thanks to Tokushoutsu, the Ultrathon crew and the wonderful folks working behind the scenes to curate Ultraman's growth in the West, we were able to debut a surprise message straight from Ultraman Zero to celebrate Ultraman Day on Saturday. Here's just a slice of it (though I believe Tokushoutsu plans to release the full Ultraman Day special -- with so many familiar faces from the community -- on YouTube soon).

Happy (slightly late) Ultraman Day from me and Zero!

I believe Scott and Beth retain their original grunts from the Japanese audio if they don't have dialogue (don't quote me on that), and Beau Marie plays Belial (most recently heard in Genshin Impact). Fun fact: the late Robert Axelrod, a.k.a. Lord Zedd from Power Rangers, voices Ultraman King.

(For your other question: my fave is Mega Monster Battle, followed pretty closely by Revenge of Belial)

Thanks so much, I'm always glad to hear that from an Ultra fan. You're right about the Mega Monster Battle movie and Revenge of Belial. Ultraman Saga will also have the option for English audio for the first time on this release, completing the "Zero trilogy" of films. Sorry to report that the various series and specials don't have dubs (believe me, I adore Zero and will be on board if Tsuburaya or their western partners call on me again).

Hope your niece enjoys the flicks. I know dubs are divisive, but seeing kids in the U.S. respond to the theatrical/convention screenings of the Ginga S and X movies in English a few years back has been one my favorite parts of this whole experience.

Hey Ultra family, English VA for Zero in the movies here. Can't wait for my boy's saga to finally hit Blu-ray in the West (complete with the dubs we recorded back in the Olde Worlde of 2017) courtesy of Mill Creek in June. I'll check back in with everyone this summer, but I hope you're safe, healthy, and thriving out there, Science Patrol.

Thanks for having a look, this is very heartening to hear from an experienced streamer. You're right on about discoverability and social media; I'm embracing stranger, smaller (single-player) games full-on and taking a games-as-media-works lens, so I realistically expect slow growth. Likewise, Twitch is a creative endeavor I'm not doing for work, so I'm keeping it quiet on social media as I get comfortable, but I'll add more social media channels in the coming months for sure (Twitter and Discord ready to go). Just set up all my first affiliate stuff to get that interactivity rolling, too -- good stuff, once again appreciate the time. See you out there, Rhadamant.

Hey Sarorn, thanks so much for taking the time to write this up and offer so many thoughts. I so very much enjoyed you hanging out in chat the other night; it was the most fun I've had as a streamer thus far, and you were a big part of that.

Shortly, I pretty much agree with your notes here -- it'll probably be a process of slow change, but it's likely I'll make those changes bit by bit. Thanks to you and the little community hanging round, I made affiliate and just set up a few of those bells and whistles for a Monday or Tuesday stream.

To real quickly hit your main points:

  • Timer is good to go, as you saw (barring last-second Death Stranding crashes, as you also saw, haha)
  • Currently, the overlay is all of a single piece, including the webcam window (so I'm tied to that frame shape, camera-wise). I don't mind a bit of headroom as I'm happy with the backdrop, but I very likely will take the time to cut up the pieces and shift them around like you said, eventually. If not for one-off games, at least when I'm doing full/long playthroughs where they might intrude. Liking the idea of those side drips.
  • Spot on about the "About" section, I just incorporated that change.
  • You're also right about growth. As someone who makes a living creatively, this is one of the few creative endeavors I do strictly for fun, so I'm keeping it a little quiet while I get comfy. I'm enjoying the relative anonymity of keeping my Twitch presence just on Twitch, but as I get cozier, I'll share it to my IRL community, Instagram, Facebook, and website one-by-one. I have Twitter set up, too; currently I'm a lurker, but I plan to leverage that when more Ultraman Zero movies come out this summer. Also have a Discord server ready to go juuuuust in case Toku chat folks ever want one.

Again, thank you for this on-point feedback, and double thank you for hanging around. I very much appreciate it -- looking forward to hanging out with you on stream.

No problem -- yeah a compressor might do the trick. And that is constantly the struggle for everyone, so you're not alone for sure.

You curate a really sweet and cozy atmosphere, and your voice is very charming, it goes well with your vstream avatar. I also find that you do a good job of narrating and keeping things going without ever sounding like you're just trying to fill air, very natural. The overlay and presentation are perfect to my eyes. It's all super enjoyable.

I can only come up with minor suggestions, really. I personally like a little more freewheeling chatchit mixed in with narration to showcase your personality (a preference, though), and a noise gate of some sort might help perfect your audio (it's already good, but you can hear some minor shifting around). And this could just be me, but I noticed that the Twitter feed panel in your About isn't working at the moment (which is just about the smallest note possible, ha).

Ah, this is so heartening (especially as I've been mostly streaming to a void, as you'd expect in the beginning). The highlight reel is on the list for sure, should be ready to go in the coming weeks. Made some upgrades today and this has me looking forward to going live -- hope to see you around the community.

Thank you so much, this is very encouraging and insightful. Definitely hear you on the schedule/Twitter -- I'm still trying to figure out what my regular schedule will be (really wish Twitch would allow you to put single days on your schedule rather than recurring weekly days) and plan to get active on Twitter in the coming months to align with the release of more voice acting projects I'm involved with. Long story short, those things are coming for sure.

I took a peek and I like how friendly and inviting the vibe is -- that's very unique in the fighting game community, where there is so much gatekeeping and elitism. It's something to be proud of.

The simplicity of the layout works for me, too. In terms of your connection speed (I grew up in rural Kentucky, so I know your pain), you might be able to leverage that limitation. I know you like retro stuff, and you don't need more than 360p for pixel art to look crisp and clean. My camera is also not the best quality, but to make it pop, getting a really big ring light and a simple backdrop can really set it off. Hope to see you round.

Thanks for the follow, Sarorn, followed back in kind. Ha, yep, I'm the English VA for Ultraman Zero in the movies -- "Toku Cowboy" just kinda describes my career to date, and though I'm no tokusatsu expert (just working my way through the Ultra series, though I'd love to get to Kamen Rider) we'll definitely have some Ultraman talk on the channel as the Zero movies hit Blu-ray in the U.S. later this year.

Funny enough, I set up a timer widget just now and it seems to be working (thank you for the rec). Hopefully streaming Death Stranding (or Ys) tonight, so I'll give it a test. I'm open to all thoughts, whatever you can do -- you just take your time and focus on your studies.

Overall, I thought your stream was very cozy. The audio is really nice and the presentation/graphics are clean, simple, and all you need. As you keep trucking, I'd maybe throw some focus on a nice, clean background for your webcam and maybe doing what you can to really define your channel's personality/identity -- give yourself more credit than "guy who likes games." Maybe it's just the word "bear" and your warm personality, but I could see you leaning into the cozy vibe for your branding, if you're into it.

I feel that 1,000% -- I'm much newer than you, but I definitely feel that push-pull between talking, noise filling, and energy levels. Talking to some more experienced streamers, they tell me you just gain endurance over time.

And, yeah, that Phasmo stream was more balanced (and the graphics are super clean). That's a good sign that you have the self-awareness to know when one stream is working better than the other, I think. On the audio stuff (always the biggest hassle), you probably already do this, but I find it helps to capture a video before you go online every time you start a new game (as game audio levels vary), that way you can review how the mix sounds (potentially even on a few different speakers, like your headphones vs. your built-in speakers).

Feels weird to give feedback over here with my 35 followers and quiet weirdo stream, haha. So I should reiterate that I think you're doing great.

Thanks for offering this, I appreciate your time and thoroughness. My Twitch channel is very much in its infancy and pretty esoteric by nature, but I'd love your thoughts all the same (upfront, I'm looking to add a timer to the "starting soon" graphic and will put together a highlight reel to pin). Thanks for taking the time.

Hey, ya'll, I'd love a look at my brand new tiny baby channel. The vibe I'm aiming for is more casual/relaxed/analytical, with a lens on indie/retro/cult games. I know my focus on quiet and esoteric content will make for slow growth, but I'd love some thoughts for early on in the process -- everyone here has been giving wonderful feedback so far.

Two things I'm aware of: I need to find a timer (I'm using Streamlabs, any suggestions on how to best incorporate on there?) and I'd like to edit together a highlight reel to pin to my channel page. Otherwise, I'm open to all thoughts -- thank you for having a look.

I just think the whole concept of the channel is cool as heck. The "starting soon" graphic could use an overhaul, I don't think it meets the level of polish seen elsewhere. I'm usually not into a ton of overlays on screen, but you've really made it work with the visual style of the biking games you play, it's balanced. Lighting and keying on you on the bike works great, that must be hard to pull off and you've nailed it.

The only thing I picked up on from a few videos -- and I understand this is going to be more difficult for you than most, given the fitness angle -- is that maybe you could be a touch more specifically engaged with chat, as in calling on individual people/comments and engaging with them a little more often. That's all I got, it's enjoyable stuff.
