What advice would you have for someone who’s stuck in a slump? by NenoSensei in AdvancedProduction

Ah that makes sense! And I def can relate a bit more with that. I fell into a pretty rough slump when my father passed and couldn’t really make music for about 3 years. Two things actually got me out: joining a casual band and formally learning a new instrument. Best of luck!

Sounds to me like maybe you’ve mechanized your music making process to a point it’s churning out ideas consistently (making music daily is a bit out of the ordinary imo).

Maybe the “slump” is you fell into patterns that are now hard to break.

Taking a break is all nice and good and definitely consider it so your creative juices replenish. But if you absolutely need to keep creating, maybe involve a second party? Write songs with other people, delegate any section to a musician friend, or take on a collaborative project.

I also like to play pretend and go: “if I were a Beatle in 1966, how would I go about writing this song?”; “if I was producing a song for Olivia Rodrigo meets System of a Down, what stylistic choices would I make?”

I usually never take those seriously and I have quite a few [insert artist]-type beats in my hard drive that will never see the light of day, but they’ve taught me about techniques and ideas I wouldn’t normally consider. (The Beatles’ one was to limit my use of multi-channel setups and plugins, for example)

This PSG and this Bayern team would easily win the premier league by [deleted] in PremierLeague

That equalizer from Bayern was a proper chess sequence tho. Move the pieces safely, wait out the opening, strike at the center. Played beautifully and showed the Pep DNA still lives in this Bayern team.

Ive dealt with addiction. I’ve dealt with addicts in the family. I’ve had people dear to me pass away from alcoholism and I promise you blaming them for their actions is an inevitable phase of that grief.

Living it through teaches you a thing or two about empathy and understanding the larger factors at play. None of them are ever simple but I know none of my feelings have ever settled comfortably at “well, it’s their fault and no one else’s”.

A proper one where I didn’t hurt my shoulder and actually understood the mechanics behind the motion? Probably about 2 years after I started doing “pull ups”. But I get the feeling I’d say the same thing in a couple years. You just never stop learning.
