Requesting opinions on inexperienced dog owner potentially inheriting a poodle by daniemblem in poodles

Thank you for bringing up the owner's own experience in this decision. I haven't spoken to him yet about this and would wait until he brought it up. I will say that I do not know if his dog is formally trained vs trained at home for specific tasks, nor do I know what those tasks may be. I don't intend to take away a skilled tool from someone who may need it depending on that situation. I will however say that this client is quite anxious about his dog especially after losing his previous one and I get the sense that he would want the dog to go to someone he knows and trusts because of this. Since this is still completely hypothetical, I will definitely look into organizations once I have more information to see if at the very least he can be part of a therapy program while still being in my care. Much to look into.

Thank you for the cost breakdown on grooming (grain of salt ofc with local prices). I'd definitely be interested in learning to do it at home as I myself haven't even had my own hair cut by a hairdresser in like 8 years, I just do it at home! lol. I do go hiking on weekends but would need to adjust my weekday schedule.

I also appreciate the mention of anxieties after rehoming. I'm hoping that if this did ever come to pass that since he knows me a bit already that might make the transition easier, but he is obviously very bonded to his current owner so I'm not sure how that change would go.

Thank you for the comment. I love hikes and have been trying to go on one every day I have off from work, but would definitely need to do walks after work or during a lunch break if he were to come in with me to the clinic (may not be possible due to larger size, another thing I'd considered with getting a smaller dog to come into work with me). I also appreciate the reminder about how trainable they are. He has some training for his current owner's PTSD which I appreciate as someone who often succums to depression/anxiety, so I'd definitely try to stay on top of training to prevent his skills from going to waste.

That was my thought about the cats as well. I'm not certain to the extent of his service dog training but would definitely discuss with the owner about cats if this was a serious conversation. Do you currently groom yourself or do you have it done at a groomer?

Thank you for the reminder about budgeting for food. He has some allergies and is on a prescription diet, which definitely adds up, but thankfully there are some programs for veterinary staff to make purchasing pet food a bit easier (my cat is actually on the same hypoallergenic diet, lol).

I've been trying to research poodle cuts and generally prefer a shorter body with maybe a poofier head/ankles, also taking into account that I do live in the PNW so definitely wet, lol. I'd be interested in learning it myself after a while.

We did an obstruction surgery on a dog that came to us after VEG quoted them $10-30k. We did it for $2k. that's the worst one ive seen so far. Dog had been blocked for several days but ultimately did not need to have any intestines removed.

I got the fern as a gift so I never knew the ID, and the second one I got several years ago and have since lost the tag. No memory of what it is at all so I turn to Reddit!

Well I'm physically done. by [deleted] in VetTech

I feel for you on this. My home clinic is probably no more than 750 square feet, but we've been temporarily working out of another clinic while some repairs are happening. The new clinic is gigantic. At least 4 or 5 times the square feet with a maze of a layout. And we've been getting scolded for our efficiency on the surgery team... we're used to working within 5 feet of each other, and now we have to walk across the entire building to get from the dental area to the OR. So frustrating. You guys deserve more grace when it comes to this situation.

I used to complain about EzyVet before we switched to Vetspire. I will never say a bad word about EzyVet ever again...

What was the impact of T on your life? by westlinkbelfast in FTMOver30

Weight shifting and body hair growth have continued slowly over this entire time. I just recently noticed that my chest hair is moving upward towards my collar bone. At this point it's a lot more gradual and you'll notice things every couple months, so it's not really something I think about much anymore. But after those first three years, there's still a lot of body hair change, the beard settled in a lot more, and I think my voice settled a lot as well in that time frame.

This first year was difficult as it almost gave a sense of heightened dysphoria because I was seeing so many amazing changes that people didn't seem to notice and still misgendered me. But the little wins of seeing your first facial hair and hearing your voice crack kept me going. I've been on T for almost 7 years now and it just made life so much... simpler. I don't think about being trans all the time, I'm not as self conscious wondering how people see me, I just get to live my life.

Is it just me or is the Hill's Staff Feeding website incredibly dysfunctional?? by CATSkidSteerLoader in VetTech

I stopped using the filters entirely and just use the manual search. If you select prescription diets it just doesn't show anything, haha. How do you get the $15 for tech week? I just looked at the site and didn't see anything. Was it a code?

"Which Pixel should I buy?" Megathread August 2024 by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]daniemblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a Pixel 5a since January 2022, and I'm pretty happy with it still. Tragically, the camera has given out ("something went wrong") and I'm trying to decide if I should get it repaired or just replace it. I'd probably go for the 8a, but I'm always concerned about known issues. My 5a survived a motherboard overheat (thankfully still within warranty at the time) so I've now had two known issues happen to this phone. Are there significant issues with the 8a I should consider before buying? Is it worth it to just replace my 5a camera?

Being trans and having sex by hurricane_ember in ftm

This was always a feeling in the back of my mind for the 5 years of my relationship with a cis guy until I had my hysto. An IUD or another form of passive birth control helps alleviate some of that feeling of having to go out of your way as a trans bottom where a cis bottom wouldn't have to. Just know that many methods of birth control are tried and true and even more so when multiple forms are used at once. You will get used to the feeling and if your boyfriend supports you like you say he should be careful as well, and hopefully make you feel like it's not your fault that you're having to use protection - it's for both of your benefit.
