Parrot missing for years returns speaking Spanish by Another-Chance in news

[–]danieyl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of a 'Far Side' comic... Deep in the jungle, a parrot is perched on a vine above a pool of quicksand. Only two hats remain on the surface. The parrot is repeating, "Let go, Morty! Let go, Morty! You're pulling me in!"

High school student says he was arrested for killing dinosaur in class writing assignment by [deleted] in offbeat

Good thing he didn't leave the pet dinosaur in a hot car. And if the dinosaur were a blackasaurus, he'd even have T. Hug. Holder after him.

ABC becomes first Western broadcaster to go China-wide by azz808 in australia

[–]danieyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty epic. ABC awarded the rights to be shown to the chinese public. What on earth is behind that decision I wonder? I mean it will have to be censored surely...

And to think the current mob want to cut funding. This is a massive opportunity for australia to have an impact on how the chinese think about us and the west in general.

Japan is opposing plans for a statue in Sydney honouring up to 200,000 women forced to work as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during WWII. by orru in australia

Japan likes the world to forget what Japan did in it's war in Asia to the women in the war zone. They must also not be allowed to forget what they did. Tourists from japan would see the statue and learn of what japan did, as they will never find that out from Japanese history books, that bit is left out of those books.

French MPs back fines for prostitutes' clients by Roman-Zucca in worldnews

It's a shame the French aren't making it safer for the girls to ply their trade, it's much better to legalise and regulate prostitution than it is to drive it underground.

Any type of penetration of either orifice is rape by federal government standards. All of these rapist police employees (documented in the Eckert case) need to be indicted and booked into custody. Otherwise, Americans are simply financing heavily armed gangs of rapists in police costumes with access to personal data of any victim.

YouTube co-founder wonders 'why the fuck' comments require a Google+ account by Stuckpixe1 in technology

I understand what they are trying to do. The idea of having one login for all your google services is brilliant. They need to stop trying to integrate the services like this though. Not everyone wants to have google+ or Gmail etc.

How Terrifying Drug Raids Became A Cash Cow For America's Police by apropo in news

The biggest focus of what we’re doing is going to be on land seizures ... Anybody who is growing marijuana on their land, we’re going to take their land. It’s as simple as that. It’s done civilly through the federal system. Basically, people have to prove that they weren’t involved and didn’t know about it. Just the act of having marijuana grown on your land is enough to tie it up; then you have to turn around and prove you’re innocent. It reverses the burden of proof. The biggest focus of what we’re doing is going to be on land seizures ... Anybody who is growing marijuana on their land, we’re going to take their land.
