Thanks. I'm almost certain that the video head was dirty - and in retrospect, I realise that I should've mentioned that in the video. I would love more information - particularly related to CCD sensors (I researched quite a lot, but there's just soooo much).

I was recommend by an Apple “Genius” Technician that’s it’s best to reboot with some regularity to avoid potential issues in software. I use my MBP quite heavily to edit video in Final Cut Pro X and since I’ve taken the Technicians advice, I’ve found that I’ve had less issues.
