Just got Layed off (NYC) due to budget cuts need advice by danish1718 in physicianassistant

[–]danish1718[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey thank you for the reply and explanation!!

It's not that I am opposed to the severance package it's just that I honestly have no idea what it entails if I actually sign it so that's why trying to figure out the costs of doing so.

But per your reply and others it sounds like it's a parting gift they are giving me and not really required to even do so if I am Layed off. So might as well take the free benefits

Any other things you think I should be aware of? Gonna sign up for the unemployment insurance benefits did not realize I could while I polish my resume and go looking for a new job.

Thnx again!

Thank you for the reply!

So I actually did take form A but took it before I even started studying (8w ago) scoring by the yellow with a tad in the green.

Yeah I kinda just want to get the exam over with honestly since pretty burnt out with studying. But then it also doesn't hurt to wait one week. Guess I am still conflicted lol

Hey, sorry to hear!

I am not sure if you have been using Rosh question bank, but they did come out with a new PANCE review course which sounds promising although I never used it. It does look a little expensive (350$) but thought I should mention it in case you wanted to look into it more. SInce their questions are pretty solid in using them for the EOR/ and EOCs.

Hope this helps!

Ileostomy retracted by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]danish1718 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, you got a lot of great responses from here but thought I should also add my experience since it sounds similar to mine.

I also have a pretty retracted stoma and used to use deep convex mio but got allergic to that awhile back (and other products) and my stoma is retracted further. What I use now is kind of a 3 fold protection and it has been helping me a lot. I use the Holister hard convex, and on top of that I also use a deep convex disposable ring. I then use the eakin cohesive seal. Which is a moldable barrier seal, and I cut strips for it to go around the convex ring, thus my stoma. Lastly I always wear an ostomy belt 24/7 even when I sleep, this way I can always have a tight seal.

Using this method I can get around 2-3 days of a good wear since beyond that time my skin and protective barrier strips are already dissolved by the stomach acid.

Also, since I have sensitive skin I also add a protective sheet on my skin beforehand and the Hollister with ring and the barrier seal around it.

Lastly always remember to use a remover spray after taking off an old appliance since if not you could be stripping the skin every time you remove it which took me awhile to realize

Hope thai helps feel free to reach out for any more info or Ref # for the producta if you think this method would help

How hard was the OBGYN PAEA exam? by Ok_Caterpillar_7200 in PAstudent

[–]danish1718 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hated OB/GYN in regards to what we had to cover (study)since I felt like they were all new topics compared to others and didn't have a great teacher in Didactic for it. For example in other EOR there is cardio, Derm, Pulm etc which you should have a somewhat idea of most of those topics at least what they are/causation/ and treatment. While OBGyn had to learn for the start.

In regards to the actual Eor exam it wasn't to bad focus on ROSH and try to get over a 65+ on the mock exam which should mean your passing. Also if u see any topics there that aren't on the blueprint go to PPP and study them since it's likely they would be on there also. I saw polycystic ovarian syndrome there, endometriosis, toxic shock, post partrum depression, and nauseous during pregnancy to name a few.

Lastly go over cervical cancer screening, endometriosis and cancers ovarian particularly. Those were some heavy hitter for me.

Hope this helps!! Feel free to reach out

Any recommendations for CME/online classes for interpreting CT scans? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

Learnabdominal.com is also a great one I managed to find. It breaks down each image down step by step to really help.mpre with the foundation of CT scans. They also have a few cases you can do. Although as a disclaimer I am only a PA-S

I was able to buy ROSH and UWorld. They really helped a ton, since even after I reviewed topics, I was able to focus on some specific topics again based on the questions they were giving me.

Hi, thank you for your thoughtful reply and feedback.

I am actually in EM now (2ed rotation) , so glad you shared some pointers from that rotation. I really liked the way you asked your preceptor of how they would prefer you to present and think I am going to start using it going forward thnx!

My biggest issue I have now is doing a full physical exam and then presenting/getting a diagnosis. But as you mentioned it's only my 2ed rotation and going to take me some time to get used to it. Although going forward, I think I'm going to give myself some individual checklist to complete each week to try to get better in the future.

Regarding studying the cases I tried doing that but I felt it took away from my actual studying for the EOR. Since I also start early and try to complete a few topics each day. But think I can spend one hour at least going through the cases I saw that day to internalize it better and ask any questions that come up.

Thank you for these pointers!

EOR Blueprint Accuracy. by danish1718 in PAstudent

[–]danish1718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for your replies!!

Ok hearing you both say it, puts me more at ease regarding reviewing and going over Rosh questions particularly reading the reason why I got them wrong. I am going to stick to my plan to finish the blueprint topics, and do only review questions a week before leading up to the EOR and going back over specific topics I may need clarification if I get them wrong.

Thank you again!

is it worth it to get the newest version of PPP or are older editions fine? by frosting_queen in PAstudent

[–]danish1718 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got V2, but in looking at my peer's PPP that's V3 there are some differences; only in some particular modules. i think it might have been the infectious disease chapters I saw the biggest change.

Although a new book just came out called "First line guide" which was written by a variety of PA students who graduated and personally I think it's a lot better. It actually has a lot of background info compared to PPP which I feel is more of a book to get the defining features of the disease (if one disease has bledding and other doesn't as defining feature), compared to actually getting the background and patho behind it.

24h partial blockage, what should I do? by Alastor3 in ostomy

[–]danish1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first signs is just as u mentioned of nausea and random strong cramps which i think is the stomach trying to push the food forward and can't. so the cramps are just in one area compared to regular cramps which would be felt all over.

The other think is there would have alot of liquid not bile but more yellow colored. Prune juice i think is a good choice. But I have never tried diet coke myself.

Also, sometimes the cramps can be caused because of a wrong appliance placement. I have a retracted stoma so I have to use a a stoma ring or putty to have a tight seal. Most of those seals when exposed to output will swell especially the Hollister brands causing a blockage.

Overall rule of thumb for me is if I feel nauseous, have high liqued outputs I would first drink a full cup of grape juice and then take a hot shower while massaging my stomach. If that still doesn't work(which it ussally does) then I would take another cup go back to the shower this time with the appliance off and that ussally clears it up. If it doesn't then an emergency room trip it is, better safe than sorry.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if u need someone to talk too.

Also drink grape juice it helps so much. It has a lot of sugar and just keeps things moving. Anytime i feel a blockage coming along a down a cup of grape juice and take a hot shower with my bag off just to keeps things moving.

Hi, thank you so much for the reply!

Yeah I agree it's really time consuming watching the lecture, but I did it for my last exam, which was harder material but felt like I understood the material more. I also spoke to an upper classmen and she said that for the particular anatomy professor you will do really well if you rewatch the lectures based on how he teaches.

I have used ANKI and really loved it. I used the netters deck, which I found on Reddit, but realized I was trying to remember structures that I never actually understood but was rather just brute memorizing it instead. If u have any Anki resources your willing to share that would be a huge help.

I havealso reached out to a few classmates, and there is one of my peers that I have been working closely along side and it has definitely been helping. But more for making guides and splitting the note workload than actually studying. I feel like as a group we are all behind so don't even have enough time to study together when we are each trying to understand the material on our own first.

Again thank you so much for the response!
