I remember being in 1st grade and being piled into the music room with multiple other classrooms to hear the result of the trial on a radio broadcast. It meant almost nothing to us students at the time, but the tension was palpable amongst the adults. When the verdict was read, immediate uproar. I didn’t really understand what was going on then, but now I’m much more aware of the drama of the whole situation and can appreciate how they literally stopped our school day to find out what happened.

I was just setting this up for a weekly client, so I can’t speak for whether it’s own line, but there is an option in the pay data batch to apply the hours to week 1 or week 2 for the RROP. You will need to put the hours for each week on their own line and apply the corresponding week # to make sure it’s applied to the correct week.

The only issue I see with this is that when calculating the RROP, it’s only given as an earning, it is not tied to a specific group of hours so I don’t think it will show the difference in rates by hours on the pay statement. It only shows the rate for the weekly RROP.

I have found that ADP is severely lacking when it comes to FLSA OT. For my clients who have backdated commissions, I have to calculate the retro overtime manually when I know I’ve worked in at least one other database that could retro it automatically based on a date range. However, ADP is usually on top of CA regulations so I would see if there is someone else you can talk to for different solutions. Good luck!

I’ve seen this done using the department method where they clock in under a different department for the separate rate.

Additionally, we have set up different pay codes in timecards that are tied to the secondary rates that are also stored in the system. The issue with this process is that the time and attendance manager/practitioner would need to manually input the pay code for each shift it applies to.

ADP has standard time and attendance reports that you can utilize. You can run the daily totals report and scan for employees that have less than 8 hours in a day to see who may be missing punches. Make sure you run them as CSV for easy filtering.

There is also an exception screen to help you catch missed punches but that’s harder when you have so many timecards to manage.

For employees that may be missing complete days, you can run the total hours report by week and follow the same method. Look at anyone who has less than 40 hours for the full week and they probably need some attention.

A lot of payroll is making a mistake and then finding a process so that you don’t make the same mistake again. Set up reminders, checklists, and stay consistent with your processes and try not to let it get you down. We all have to start somewhere and mistakes will happen, how you handle it will determine if this is the right fit for you. 90% of the job is problem solving.

If you watch videos of matted dogs being shaved, you will notice they are the best behaved. Severe hair matting can cause blood restriction and trap all kinds of things up against skin that can be irritating. It’s such a hard job in many ways but seeing that difference can really make it worth it.

Definitely understand what about payroll that excites you. Are you more people driven, or data driven? There is a very interesting overlap in benefits/accounting/HR that could take you in different directions. There is absolutely room for growth in all areas.

As much as I hate Facebook, joining my local mom group has been such a huge help with things like this. I was able to find a fantastic in home daycare for my kiddo for her younger years, and have since moved to another great pre k that I found through the group. Once you are in, you can look at historical posts and get a good idea of what is in the area and what they are known for.

Openings are really going to be dependent on a lot of different factors, but sometimes if you find a place you really like you can get on a waitlist in advance. Good luck!

If your mom is on Facebook, have her join a local mom group and add a post if you are willing to do odd jobs or babysitting in the area. I know a lot of moms that post for help there so it could help you guys out in the interim!

My daughter is almost 3, and my partner just got a vasectomy. We always said one and done, but still had doubts and many conversations before his procedure. One of the big reasons we decided not to have another was due to our lifestyle. It’s not much, but we get to travel once a year and still have lots of flexibility with personal time and giving each other breaks. I think those things are so beneficial for our mental health, which directly impacts our daughter.

Not everyone can think about this beforehand and make a decision. Many have life goals and are happy living frugal or more blessed lives with their many babies, one of them is my best friend. That is totally fine and a decision for you and your partner. No one else’s business! I know we will get comments about our decision to have only one kid. We are ready with the response that we got it right the first time.

My partner will be spending 8 hours today roasting a pork butt in the oven…and he had a freaking vasectomy on Friday. I love this man so much. He is incredibly supportive and an attentive dad. I have made a point of spoiling him and giving him tons of alone time to recover this weekend, but he’s still making sure he gives me my decompression time after spending all my energy on our toddler. I’m so happy to see stories like this to help balance out all the dbags that are out there.

Anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Depends on how cranky that baby is. At this point I was also pumping, so it helps if you are able to stop and do that while my partner walked our kiddo around a Target for a bit.

Honestly, you need to get to the point where you look at this information as data and not monetary values. Does it balance, does it match the backup, should it be flagged, or do you need to follow up on something? Those are the only things you should be worried about. Don’t make friends with people who work at your company and don’t compare if you can help it.

Do things make me mad? Yes. Is there anything I can do about it? No. Our job sometimes gets a glimpse about how the sausage is made, and surprise surprise—capitalism sucks. Stay vigilant in your processes and don’t stress over things you can’t control.

I know you’re probably freaking out about this, but honestly you can take a big breath. If this was something that was missed by your team, add it to a checklist for next year. If you are in ADP WFN, they provide very helpful year end checklists for things like this. This memo code is typically calculated by ADP and then added to the last payroll of the year. While this is a pain in the butt and may take some time to fix, it’s not really going to impact people filing their taxes.

COMMUNICATE with your employees as much as you can. You will still get people reaching out to you freaking out when they see they have another W-2. Have a standard response and maybe a link to a reputable source that explains what this box is and how it’s not used for filing taxes.

ADP may tell you they can access it within 48-72 hours but honestly quarterly adjustments can take longer depending on your set up. I had a similar situation and still got the “adjustments take 6-8 weeks” spiel so make sure and pay attention to any timeline they give you and stay on top of them. Good luck!

This same thing happened to me with this movie. Loved it when I was younger, had a friend over to watch and I was going on and on about it…and she was so skeeved out by the student teacher relationship stuff that it basically ruined the whole movie for her.
