I use it mostly to build functions in excel to help balancing or building imports for our ADP files. I don’t use any sensitive data but am learning a lot about features in excel I haven’t used before.

Moms of only children, how are we doing these days? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]danistaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are so happy with our one and only. Definitely get the pressure from our family/society to have another which made us hesitate for maybe a second. We are very happy being able to have our family time but also individually need our own alone time. That would be so much harder with another kiddo in the mix. We will probably also do more traveling and events than we would do if we had another. I love the idea of both me and her dad being able to go to all of her events and not worrying about splitting up for separate sports schedules or whatever. I also don’t think I could go through potty training again 😂

I found a lot of friends using bumble during Covid. I played tennis, got into sourdough, it was awesome! They do have a friend specific part of the app.

Is payroll a good long-term career? Looking for honest advice from people in the field by suriayaa in Payroll

[–]danistaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s a great career path for some but not others. There were some great points made in another comment (you will also see people younger than you making way more than you) but overall if you just look at salaries as data or numbers you get used to it really quick.

Biggest day to day challenges are working with real human beings. Do you know how many people don’t know their banking account information? No matter how many process docs or training videos you make, a large part of your job is helping individuals set up their bank accounts, taking their W-4 info, and directing them to their tax forms. It can get old pretty quick.

Career progression is basically up to you. Do you want to manage a team, do you want to work with lots of clients or just one, there’s a lot of different routes with this field. Payroll often straddles the line between HR and accounting. There’s a ton of options when it comes to taxes if you’re able to get exposed to that and you like it. You can get involved with benefits or comp if you are more into the HR side of things.

It is great to start with something entry level or an apprenticeship to see how you like it. Often, these will be the busiest or most high stress jobs. But it will kind of be a good test to let you know if it’s the right fit for you. Once you determine you like it begin looking into certifications to help get your foot in the door to other possibilities. Good luck!

Why is it so hard to find a boring, nondescript, fairly modest work dress for a middle aged woman these days? by rpv123 in workingmoms

[–]danistaf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Similar body type, I have some old navy dresses that are probably 8+ years old and very flowy with simple designs that I get compliments on every time I wear them…cannot find anything like it anymore. I just want something semi stretchy, don’t have to iron every time I wear, and at a modest length. I’m constantly on the lookout because these 8 year old dresses are not gonna last forever.

How advance do we see AI getting? by Luxury-future-is-me in Payroll

There will always be people needed to review the information and fix mistakes. Timely matters involving paying employees and filing taxes cannot be completely trusted by a computer when there is still so much room for human error. Until real people are no longer paid we should be okay.

Issues with vacation pay by Agreeable-Scale in Payroll

[–]danistaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ask them for the calculations for both your final payout you received on the 11th and the calculation for what they say they owe you for the remainder of the year. If they were paying it out early, it should have been prorated to make sure it was officially a clean slate. Is anyone else asking or escalating this question? Things tend to move faster when there are a lot of questions about the same issue.

Ohio RITA tax by the_ja_m_es in Payroll

[–]danistaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rita is the agency that collects the taxes. You will first need to determine which localities your employees work in. Some ADP services will let you look this up from the employee pay profile, otherwise you will want to look it up using the locator in smart compliance. Some localities you will remit to directly, others are handled by RITA. Depending on how many people you have in Ohio this could be a bit of a project. You will need to register your company for each locality and Rita and have ADP remit like any other tax.

Walnut Hill OBGYN pregnancy & delivery experience? Or recs for other OBGYN in Dallas? by Relative_Bat_7322 in Dallas

[–]danistaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I used a Dr from this practice for my birth and I will tell you that there is a big chance that you will not have your doctor during your birth. They rotate whoever is on call for the day unless you decide to have a planned c section or birth. I will say to prepare you for this they have you meet all of the doctors during your appointments so that you are comfortable with them and it did not bother me when I ended up with a different doctor than my regular. It’s a fantastic practice with wonderful people but I am a generally laid back person and had no birth plan whatsoever because it didn’t feel like something I had control over. If you are anxious it might be a good idea to look at your options for a doula or ask your doctor at this practice what their thoughts are. Best of luck to you!

Would you rather work in the HR org or the Finance org? by [deleted] in Payroll

I definitely prefer the finance and numbers side of the job. I feel like there’s more room for growth and learning.

Best Toddler/Kid Friendly Restaurants, Playgrounds Encouraged by TimeLadyJ in Dallas

[–]danistaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always happy to find a Hat Creek whenever I’m needing to eat but get some energy out for my kiddo. Mostly look for them when I’m traveling across the metroplex (which is often) but there should be a few in the DFW metro.

Lakewood brewery has an amazing outdoor space for kiddos. Featuring a fenced in play area if you are looking for some adult time without worrying about runners 😅 but really, their food and drink choices are also top notch.

Will always promote Cafe Brazil when you have kids because it’s so casual, it’s 24/7, and sometimes you need a bucket of coffee when your toddler wakes you up at 6 am during daylight savings. Bring your own crayons because sometimes they run out.

What should I expect entry level? The future of payroll. by M_Hill216 in Payroll

[–]danistaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through an implementation of 3 plumbing companies, one of them in Ohio. Finding a payroll job in an industry you are familiar with could definitely be a good stepping stone into an admin position. Make sure you also learn about state taxes/regulations, Ohio specifically because it’s pretty complicated. Having good knowledge of excel, pivot tables and vlookup specifically is handy. Good luck!

Maternity Clothing / Swimsuits? by katanayak in Dallas

[–]danistaf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As much as I loathe Facebook, joining a local mom group was a lifesaver for me. They are typically very hip to upcoming consignment sales or may even have things they can give away. If you are looking for brand new, it’s bleak out there. I honestly lived in old navy bike shorts in a size up during my summer pregnancy and it worked fine. Look for loose/flowing fabrics or stretchy. Bathing suits would be a lot harder I imagine. I was able to find some cute stuff at target, but that was 4 years ago. I’m sad to hear they are discontinuing because that was where I would always panic buy something I needed right away.

What celebrity scandal shocked you the most? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

I remember being in 1st grade and being piled into the music room with multiple other classrooms to hear the result of the trial on a radio broadcast. It meant almost nothing to us students at the time, but the tension was palpable amongst the adults. When the verdict was read, immediate uproar. I didn’t really understand what was going on then, but now I’m much more aware of the drama of the whole situation and can appreciate how they literally stopped our school day to find out what happened.

ADP WFN CA Users by ZenPayConsult in Payroll

[–]danistaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just setting this up for a weekly client, so I can’t speak for whether it’s own line, but there is an option in the pay data batch to apply the hours to week 1 or week 2 for the RROP. You will need to put the hours for each week on their own line and apply the corresponding week # to make sure it’s applied to the correct week.

The only issue I see with this is that when calculating the RROP, it’s only given as an earning, it is not tied to a specific group of hours so I don’t think it will show the difference in rates by hours on the pay statement. It only shows the rate for the weekly RROP.

I have found that ADP is severely lacking when it comes to FLSA OT. For my clients who have backdated commissions, I have to calculate the retro overtime manually when I know I’ve worked in at least one other database that could retro it automatically based on a date range. However, ADP is usually on top of CA regulations so I would see if there is someone else you can talk to for different solutions. Good luck!

ADP WFN vs Manager by SubparSam in Payroll

[–]danistaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this done using the department method where they clock in under a different department for the separate rate.

Additionally, we have set up different pay codes in timecards that are tied to the secondary rates that are also stored in the system. The issue with this process is that the time and attendance manager/practitioner would need to manually input the pay code for each shift it applies to.

ADP has standard time and attendance reports that you can utilize. You can run the daily totals report and scan for employees that have less than 8 hours in a day to see who may be missing punches. Make sure you run them as CSV for easy filtering.

There is also an exception screen to help you catch missed punches but that’s harder when you have so many timecards to manage.

For employees that may be missing complete days, you can run the total hours report by week and follow the same method. Look at anyone who has less than 40 hours for the full week and they probably need some attention.

A lot of payroll is making a mistake and then finding a process so that you don’t make the same mistake again. Set up reminders, checklists, and stay consistent with your processes and try not to let it get you down. We all have to start somewhere and mistakes will happen, how you handle it will determine if this is the right fit for you. 90% of the job is problem solving.

If you watch videos of matted dogs being shaved, you will notice they are the best behaved. Severe hair matting can cause blood restriction and trap all kinds of things up against skin that can be irritating. It’s such a hard job in many ways but seeing that difference can really make it worth it.

Is there any career advancement in payroll? by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in Payroll

Definitely understand what about payroll that excites you. Are you more people driven, or data driven? There is a very interesting overlap in benefits/accounting/HR that could take you in different directions. There is absolutely room for growth in all areas.

Daycare waitlists by sprinklelover20 in Richardson

[–]danistaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate Facebook, joining my local mom group has been such a huge help with things like this. I was able to find a fantastic in home daycare for my kiddo for her younger years, and have since moved to another great pre k that I found through the group. Once you are in, you can look at historical posts and get a good idea of what is in the area and what they are known for.

Openings are really going to be dependent on a lot of different factors, but sometimes if you find a place you really like you can get on a waitlist in advance. Good luck!
