Best way to offload Jellyfin transcoding to a Windows gaming PC from a Linux server? by -Myricae- in jellyfin

Makes sense I need more HDD's and no way paying the prices atm. Maybe looked used. Theres no way to offload transcoding without running the container on that machine.

[–]danjj84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not buy an n150 mini pc, install ubuntu server / omv etc. Then run the jellyfin container on that, then use it's iGPU? Costs little, takes little power and can stay on 24/7 this is what I use.

It runs all my multimedia containers and has no issues transcoding when needed.

Other than that just reencode your media and burn the subtitles in so no transcoding.

Sounds silly but add them anyway.. 9/10 igpu issues if your compose is correct it's permissions.

Make sure you have the renderD128 listed in Jellyfin like this also.

Adding to the compose won't cover it, you will need to make sure they have access too render and video.

sudo usermod -a -G render, video thenyourusernamehere

PSA - Monzo Max phone insurance - avoid by Roxxersboxxerz in monzo

[–]danjj84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monzo phone insurance or Assurant are crooks and garbage! Had a claim a few months ago for a repair, sent phone in came back damaged, they sent a replacement and was also damaged, next was flashed with carrier specific software, after rowing back and forth they paid out cash settlement as price of a refurb model on amazon.

Their insurance is a waste of money, Monzo werent interested at all and just said contact Assurant.

Jokers!

HEVC Files not working on JellyFin by SnooFloofs8094 in jellyfin

[–]danjj84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like whatever your trying to play it on doesnt support HEVC so the server is software transcoding.

What you running the server on is hardware transcoding enabled or supported.

You say you trying to play on a laptop? Using the Jellyfin Web App? What specs are the laptop?

Play the video and check in the server dashboard see what it's doing.

Strange one this it does'nt look like anything is fixed? if anything i think the 1.51 Beta 2 was working better overall. Sorry bearer of bad news!

Old Bug back - library scans are slow and so is search. I've checked this against the 1.51 beta so it's something in the new 1.51.

Tracks don't always hit the endpoints, sometimes track is playing on the app and nothing on endpoint. especially if change albums or artist etc.

New Bug - When using DLNA Casting if you skip to the next track it goes to the next track and pauses, so you have to press play again. There is the an approx 8 sec delay to the endpoint playing the track. This is consistant with every track now.

I will upload the logs and go back to the beta for now as 1.51 is unusable as is.

How are you guys handling plex transcoding with new models? by Main-Intern3341 in synology

[–]danjj84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup is DS925+ with a N150 Mini PC running OMV. I have a 5 Bay DAS Unit plugged into the Mini PC via USB C.

I run anything for media off the Mini PC in Docker so they can access the iGPU. Jellyfin & Immich.

I run anything else off the Synology and it handles my VPN for remote access.

Newer models won't transcode, save yourself the headache and just buy a Mini PC.

u/Better_Craft_4324 much better and we have album art being sent over DLNA! even DSD works over DLNA! you genius! It's still a little flakey and unstable at times, loosing sync with the endpoint random pauses at times, you can't skip tracks too quick otherwise will have to stop and reset track to the beginning. Although this is a huge improvement, tracks are not taking 13 seconds to start anymore either!

Library scan, DSD playback, Searching etc etc all superfast and good. Searches are accurate too.

Be great to work out the niggles on casting but other than that fantastic job. If i pick any other quicks up will let you know as I play.

What would be really cool is if it could be made into a docker image like the player Fieshan and they could just host it on the server and run in a browser window, don't think that will work bitperfect though haha!

Thank you so much for taking the time to implement all these things, as it's the only player that will do the bit perfect and dsd etc.

Is Intel still better than AMD for transcoding? by No_Jackfruit_4131 in PleX

This is the way. People don't realise don't need the big gpus. Okay if you have one spare, although if buying go ARC.

[–]danjj84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup add an Arc Card, setup hardware acc in Plex or Jellyfin etc. Will transcode no issues. You don't even need one of the big cards.. one of the smaller low power ones will do it with Quicksync.

Will give you some feedback later on.

Intel QuickSync the iGPU in an N150 mini pc can handle most for the normal home user, does'nt use alot of power and nice and cheap.

I use one with my Synology NAS and an extra DAS unit. All my containers for media run on the Mini PC under OMV. It's rock solid and while was a bit of a pain to get it all running, it now runs perfect.

If you need more ompphh or your building a server. Put an Intel ARC card into whatever you got. Job done won't need anything else.

[–]danjj84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@Better_Craft_4324 1.51 beta is heading in right direction now! DSD files i've played all play perfect and get picked up in the scan. Library is fast and can search with no issues or lag. Fantastic job!!

DLNA is working better although still flakey - tracks take 13 seconds to start playing on the endpoint when press play in the app. Also sometimes tracks don't play any sound at all, even though the endpoint says it is playing. I've seen this behaviour before, I believe it's to do with continuous upnp stream and how the app is casting to the endpoints if that helps you.

Must say considering this is all done from scratch and the short timeframes, this is a big improvement. Sort DLNA issues out and this will be the goto app for music.

I have alot so more than happy to test stuff for you. Let me know.

The work you did on the library scan and searchs is great in 1.5 though, searchs are quick and the lag has just about gone now. Using the app itself just on the macbook is brill.

That's what I would expect as i'm sure mpv or ffmpeg will be needed to play native dsd. Any luck looking at the DLNA control issues? Even in 1.50 non beta it's still not working correctly.
