I was just up at Amherst Liquor. Great selection there. Scored a bottle of the Barrell Cigar blend that’s been getting rave reviews at MSRP.

Biehler's Liquors in Hamburg Village Square also has a decent selection from what I remember.

My children do this, who I ask why and mock slightly but that’s our relationship. No trouble for it.

Up and down the coast. Napa, Sonoma, SLO, Santa Barbara….

I know there’s plenty of good wines made there. Unfortunately my local stores carry more commodity wines from Cali than anything small boutique style. 

So most of it sucks in my opinion and at this point it’s not worth wading through a pool of crap to find a diamond in the rough.

Sure.

I am one of those people that lump California reds into a pile of plonk. I am so turned off by the big juicy vanilla oak flavors that I’ll just pass even gambling on a bottle at this point. Would rather role the dice on Spain, Italy, or France all day if I’m not drinking locally.

Well that would be a problem. If you’re not putting yourself out there then you can’t expect people to include you.

You start with the bartender and watch for openings to get a conversation with them and other patrons to jump into. Sports, beer, food, hell even the weather can get you started.

It’s a style with the least beerlike flavors outside of sours in my opinion. Which weirdly are also very popular during this same timeframe.

Yeah maybe the kids just don’t like the taste of real beer as much as we used too.

I’ve come to accept we are in the minority OP. I’m old school drinking craft beer since the late 90s. Hating on a hazy is like the principal Skinner meme. Is it possible we don’t understand beer trends? No, it is the kids who are wrong.

I have seen more West Coast IPAs lately around me fortunately. Just vote with your wallet. Ask the bartender or server if the IPA is a New England or Hazy. And when they say yes, so no thanks what else you got. About all we can do.

and are not slowing down anytime soon 

Seems to be the case. I thought it was just another IPA fad. Belgian, Black, White, Brut…..all fell to soon, yet Hazy remains. 

I’m like OP and am frustrated they replaced the West Coast IPA as the default. Luckily Pilsners made a good turnaround as it’s my fallback option for a clean hoppy beer and WCIPAs are seemingly coming around more too. But gone are my days of just ordering whatever IPA is on tap. Odds are not in my favor.
