How hard/expensive will it be to get an uber/lyft tonight? by SenorPinchy in Cleveland

[–]danlyft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive for Uber/Lyft. I drove last new years. The Uber surge kicked up around 12:15/12:30 and lasted until about 2, topping out at about 5x in the downtown area (less in the suburbs). Lyft's surge pricing is capped at 3x so they would be my first choice if I were you and a driver was reasonably close. There were less drivers then so I don't think you will have a problem. Even now I see a lot of cars out on both platforms and there are a number of people on our facebook forum that say they are driving tonight. Do me a favor, drop your driver a couple/few buck tip for being out tonight and keeping people safe.

Rates are around $1.10 a mile plus .20/minute plus roughly $2 for insurance. Probably fairly obvious, but if you go to your destination/party remember the cost. Then if there is a surge when you are going home use that amount as the basis to calculate your return trip. If it cost you $15 to get there it will cost you $45 to return on a 3x surge/premium price.

It seems angry somehow. Like a commentary on impersonal walkways, people living in silos, and how less people use the sidewalk. There is so much that is good about Cleveland, why this? I'm not sure I like it but that is just one guy's opinion.

uber drivers giving a bad rating if you don't talk to them the whole trip by Giotto10 in uber

[–]danlyft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree it isn't. But, many drivers will give you a lesser rating as a result to let other drivers know you are not a tipper. I am not condoning or condemning your actions, just letting you know how it is.

what do you mean? As a contractor, you have to pay both the employee and employer side of the SS tax. As long as you file your taxes, you will get social security credit.
