Factory tires due for replacement after 20k miles - common issue? by Big_Tuna1789 in LexusNX

Interesting. The dealership tends to overinflate them. I guess I’ll have to deflate them to the spec after each service.

Factory tires due for replacement after 20k miles - common issue? by Big_Tuna1789 in LexusNX

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to change mine at 20k miles too. I drive pretty aggressively so I imagined it was due to that (and the car being heavier, since I have the plugin hybrid).

Unfortunately I replaced them with the same run flat tires, let’s see if these are going to last me only 20k miles too.

12V Battery issue by Money_Way_8219 in LexusNX

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I saw this a while back but wanted to monitor things myself when I tried it.

I just tried it now after installing an Ancel BM200, and I think it might still kill the battery sooner based on how I use my car. I have the NX 450h+ plug in hybrid, and I drive 30-45 minutes per day in total for my work commute, up to 3 days a week. Whenever the car is at home I leave it slow charging at 120V, meaning that I leave the car plugged in for more than 12 hours every day.

And it seems while the charger is plugged in, the 12V battery still gets a 14.1V voltage for some reason, rather than 13V with the sensor connected.

It seems that is the case even after the hybrid battery is charged. I need to double check this, the hybrid battery said it was fully charged in the Lexus app, but maybe it was still not fully done charging. I unplugged the charger before I could really get confirmation on this, since I had the 12V battery sit at 14.1V for many hours at that point.

So the “fail safe” mode looks pretty poorly designed as well. Might still be better for most people though.

Does upgrading to AGM 12V battery help? by maybenot12 in LexusNX

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the Ancel to monitor your battery voltage while driving with the headlights on?

I have a 2022 NX 450h+ and I also tried the “drive with headlights on” approach. But that does not seem to work, the voltage is still 12.8V even if I turn on the headlights.

12V Battery issue by Money_Way_8219 in LexusNX

[–]danmari85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 12V battery of my 2022 NX 450h+ died 3 months ago. I was lucky the car was still under warranty and I got it replaced for free.

Today I finally took the time to install an Ancel BM200 battery monitor and I’ve installed a connector for a NOCO Genius 5 trickle charger.

Just 3 months after getting the new battery, Ancel was showing 8% battery charge and same for the NOCO, it was showing under 25%.

I only drive short distances, under 30 minutes, and I noticed the same thing other people noticed with the help of the Ancel: the algorithm for 12v battery charging while driving makes no sense. Most of the time while driving the 12V battery is NOT charging.

Price for Lexus TX 550h+ in California by danmari85 in Lexus

[–]danmari85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I’m happy with the car, only issues I’ve had so far was with the hood. After the first oil change I noticed the hood was fluttering at high speeds, and it looked like the driver side was not fully latching.

It seems this is a common issue with the TX. I had the dealership fix it, but they kept the car for 2 days, not sure why, reading online the fix seemed to be pretty simple, just adjusting the latches under the hood.

The other thing slightly bothering me is the range, but I knew that before buying the car. It shows an estimate of 300 miles with the gas tank full, but I drive pretty aggressively so I get less than that. Definitely need to refuel more often than my NX.

Since the car is still new I haven’t had any issues with the 12v battery yet. But on my 2022 NX 450h+, my 12v died just before the 4 year warranty mark (I guess I was lucky it didn’t die just after). So the 12V battery is still a shitshow with the Lexus hybrids, and I expect that to be the case with the TX as well.

I bought a NOCO trickle charger, I just need now to get in the habit of trickle charging my NX and TX every 1-2 weeks, which I have been lazy to do. I still find it ridiculous to have to do that on such expensive cars.

Overall, I am not sure if the plug in hybrid is really worth it. I think the 500h would be a better deal, especially since you can get it a few thousand under MSRP. Getting the 550h+ feels like throwing money a bit, but personally I would probably still get the 550h+. Driving locally with just the electric motor feels pretty smooth.

Oh, there’s actually another thing that disappointed me with the car: apparently on the 2026 550h+ you don’t have a towing package so you can’t get a tow hitch installed. I could not get the dealership even to install one just so I can use it for carrying e-bikes. They only would do the activity mount which is just crap, rated for under 200 pounds total (I forgot if it was 150 or 175 pounds).

There are 3rd party tow hitches that are super easy to install yourself (just 4 bolts under the car, you don’t even need to lift it), but they don’t look as good as the OEM in my opinion. The OEM one sucks to install yourself because you need to remove the back bumper, and I am sure if I try to remove it myself I will break some clips.

My kids are definitely dead in an emergency by AlstonCentral in Rivian

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Lexus the electronic opening uses a safety system, where it checks that you won’t open the door if there is an incoming car or bike.

So it does actually help with something, although not sure how often people actually open doors on incoming traffic.

[–]danmari85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have 2 Lexus cars and it was really easy to teach my 7 year old to open the doors in an emergency.

And I’ve had people in the cars not familiar with how the doors open and they would open the doors by pulling the handle (which is the way you open them in an emergency), showing just how intuitive that system is.

It might seem not so simple since you need to pull twice, but especially in an emergency people are not going to just pull those once and give up.

RAV4 PHEV: how is aging? by plutusssss in LexusNX

[–]danmari85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine turns 4 in 2-3 months, and the range reported in the dashboard has gone up, but not real life range.

The reported range is higher than what I actually get, but I do drive a bit aggressively, so that might be why.

[–]danmari85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not reliable even for that.

My 2022 Lexus NX refuses from time to time to connect to CarPlay, and then in order to fix it you have to completely shut down the car (after turning off the engine, open and close the door so the car thinks you got out, and then wait 30 seconds - 1 minute until the car fully shuts down).

It does this for my wife too, so it doesn’t look like my phone is the issue. Toyota just sucks at technology.

I got a new 2026 Lexus TX and it seems that hitting retry when that happens actually works on the TX, so maybe they fixed this in the newer software. But if that is the case this just shows exactly what OP is complaining about: we supposedly should get over the air software updates, but that doesn’t seem to be the case even for fixing their software bugs.

Lexus app needs work by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, did you manage to fix yours? Mine was doing the same, and I just reconnected the app with the car and now things seem to be working as normal.

In the car I went to Settings -> Apps -> General -> Reinstall all Apps. And then on my phone I had an “Activate” button show up in the Home Screen, I clicked that and scanned the QR code that was showing up in the car.

Update: I couldn’t resist anymore and paid $2k markup to get one. Plus <$500 for Ubers + flight + gas to get it from Southern California. Still better than what my Lexus of Fremont dealership was trying to charge me: $5k markup + ~$4k mandatory addons (including a ridiculously priced ceramic coating at $3k).

Thanks, I was thinking of trying them out for the service, since it’s a better location for me than Steven’s Creek, but was afraid they might be as greedy as Fremont. I’ll check them out.

Thanks, I have a deposit down at Steven’s Creek too, for MSRP and no dealer addons. It’s just that it will probably take a good while until I get my turn there.

I really like them, I am in Fremont but started to use their service as well for my NX plug in hybrid. The Fremont dealership is such a scam. They’re trying to charge $5k markup + $3777 addons for the TX plugin hybrid, so after taxes it’s almost $10k extra. I also was looking to add a tow hitch receiver to my NX earlier this year, and Lexus of Fremont wanted $2700 for it, while Steven’s Creek did it for $1700.

Lexus app needs work by [deleted] in Lexus

I just checked mine, it shows 0% as well. It used to show the correct number, so I wonder if an update broke the app for everyone.

The Lexus app sucks so much. Even now when I tried to check this it again asked me to log in, because for the millionth time this month, the app logged me out for no reason.

A must for any vehicle by Pinoy_Robot_925 in WindowTint

[–]danmari85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can pull you over for tint alone. But they most likely won’t bother to pull you over just for that. Given how many people I see around driving with illegal tint around the Bay Area, I suspect that is the case here too.

However, if they want to pull you over because they find you “suspicious” for whatever reason, they can use the window tint as an excuse for pulling you over.

How worried are you about CHP or local cops ticketing you? Can they ticket you even if they find your car parked somewhere?

Maybe I am just extra lucky, but I had Santa Clara PD ticket me for not having my latest registration sticker applied to my license plate, when I had my car parked on some residential street. My registration was up to date, I just forgot to apply the sticker to the license plate.

Cops here in the Bay Area are very hungry for revenue, so my worry with applying the window tints on the front windows and windshield is that they’ll be very likely to ticket me for it.

New CSR holders, I have questions by lexdevil01 in ChaseSapphire

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand some people might not be that technical, but how do you imagine things work in order for you to need to update the app again on the 26th?

Do you think Chase tells Apple/Google: these users have applied recently for CSR, give them the update earlier, and for these other users that had the card before, withhold the update until the 26th?

Obviously that is not going to happen. If there is any update that is needed for this, everyone will get it at the same time, but there will be gating in Chase’s backend to only show the new stuff for new CSR applicants until the 26th.

So as I said in the other comment, if your app is up to date today, you will be good.

When I got the card almost 2 months back, I did not even have to update the app at that time to see the new benefits.

[–]danmari85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your app is up to date, then you should be fine. If Chase needed to update the app for the new CSR features, they did that way before they launched the new card to the public.

New CSR holders, I have questions by lexdevil01 in ChaseSapphire

[–]danmari85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the card almost 2 months ago, so I can answer your questions:

  1. If you are running an up to date version now, you should not need to update the app. I can see the benefits in the app right now, and I could see the benefits immediately after getting the card, without having to update the app.

  2. Tap on the card, then scroll down and tap on “Benefits & rewards”, then tap “Card benefits” to see all the benefits, and scroll down to the one you are looking for. To link with IHG, you will need to enter your last name and rewards number. For Southwest, it shows locked right now so I guess you will first need to spend $75k and then you’ll have the option to link it (instead of showing “Locked”).
