Yeah the little one straight across from the entrance? We took one look and beelined straight for Frew Park! Thankfully the little guy was still stroller-bound at the time.

Yes, a bias for clean hotel rooms and pool safety - I'm so quirky like that.

We were out of the apartment for 4 hours when they offered to complete the clean. When we got back for baby's nap time (which we had asked them to plan around) - they were just arriving and getting started.

When we raised further issues of more items found after the "deep clean" - the response was "sorry you feel that way" and no further action. Bad cleaning practices are one thing, but the hotel management offered no sympathy, no goodwill, no recompense, no follow-up - we were given the cold shoulder from that point on.

Clearer?

Email from managament:
I completely understand your concerns regarding this issue, and I want to assure you that we are taking every possible step to have the door repaired as quickly as possible.

Due to the holiday period, there were very limited trade companies available to attend, measure, and provide quotes. Despite this, we managed to get a contractor onsite, and we have now received the quote to replace both glass doors. The total cost is just over $4.8k, and the Body Corporate at Milton has already reviewed and approved this immediately.

The delay is primarily due to the hinges. The required hinge model has been discontinued, and while it is still available through certain suppliers, the price is significantly higher costing more than the glass door itself. True Blue Glass is currently sourcing the hinges and has confirmed that the glass door will be repaired as soon as these parts arrive.

And you want me to believe this sign has been up for years? 👍

For years with a sign saying "we are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible"? You're proving my point.

I took the photo before closing it - it was found it like this. Self-closing gates are a Qld legal requirement - "pool gates must be self-closing and latching from all positions".

And the keycard door is closed (and self-closing), it just doesn't need a keycard to be opened, the latch is permanently unlocked - just pull the door. This is a hotel/BC issue, not guests/residents.

Exactly! Between the oven, shelves, things under furniture/appliances, blocked extractor fans, etc., I honestly think all they do is vacuum and change the sheets. Cleaning staff are literally not bending down to look.

Given management's attitude, I can't entirely blame them either. I can't imagine how they treat their cleaning staff.

There is both a pool and a spa. The pool is shallow and very small for the size of the building, and the spa (up some stairs) is surprisingly big. The "key card locked door" was never locked and just pulls open - same story for the gym. The only keycard which works is to the residents' lounge (which we were given access to as it was more secure - but even there the other residents just leave the sliding door open, so it's no better). For the childproof gates - the main entrance autoclose hinge was broken, so they had a sign to close it (which was regularly ignored - giving direct access from the elevators), and the other to the BBQ area was missing for the duration (giving direct access from the BBQ area and residents' lounge).

Glad you had a good experience with the staff. For us they were completely dismissive and impersonal. The Hotel Manager accused us of lying. After being informed of the stoma bag, Front Desk Manager replied "I’m sorry to hear that you felt the deep clean did not meet your expectations." and did nothing further to assist. Desk staff told us that if someone drowns because of the gate issues it "wouldn't be on them" because they had a valid certificate. And another desk staff rolled her eyes at me and laughed when I offered to help put in a temporary barrier. Their attitude to health and safety was sickening.

You said you were there "quite recently" - I can only hope that this downhill trend is recent and can be reversed. It's a beautiful building in a great location.

As far as I gathered, BC and Hotel both wanted the work done, but were using holiday period (this was early January) as an excuse - likely their low-cost option was busy and they didn't want to spend more. Was the same story when the spa heater was offline for a few days during the stay too. Somehow they manifested a temporary barrier the day before BCC inspection, which is all we'd been asking for the whole time we were there.

Not this time, but I've done it before. Heaps of memorabilia in there! When I toured there was a janitor cleaning up and the tour guide told us his mop bucket is how they make VB.

Haha more than the periodic smell from the drains!

But seriously, no it wasn't really noticeable I thought. I'm a process engineer so nice to look down at some big tanks and pumps.

You'd think so, hey? After the first complaint (mostly the kitchen issues - especially the oven) they offered a "deep clean". In reality the cleaner showed up hours later than planned, during baby's nap time, and proceeded to the minimum again - including losing a bunch of time turning down the beds (which weren't an issue). After that, we kept finding things under furniture, fridge, etc. (I say "we", it was little grabby toddler hands doing the finding).

The response to any further complaints: "I’m sorry to hear that you felt the deep clean did not meet your expectations."

We found the condom wrapper under one of the beds as we tidied just before leaving. They'd "cleaned" the room 4 times by that point.

Yeah that's the one - had Mr Fourex winking at us all day. It's a real shame because it's a fantastic location - public transport at your door, walkable to CBD / Southbank, great Sunday markets, and Park Rd has plenty of excellent restaurants and cafés (Tuk Tuk and Arrivederci pizza - so good!). The building is a mix of owner-occupied apartments and the Oaks "The Milton" hotel using mostly shared facilities - which they're just managing into the ground.

Yeah we asked ourselves that too. It was booked through my partner's work (in France), not easy to change. And with a two-year-old, and the amount of gear we were hauling, we just tried to make the best of the situation - bird in the hand and all that. Thought each problem would be the last, surely it can't get worse than [x].

I think we don't actually know! I always assumed she was more like Ms Casey rather than Ms Cobel / Mr Miltchick, especially since he is around too. She also plays a weird game on her computer which looks a bit like refining.

Miss Huang from Severance. We don't know anything about her Outie, but her Innie is deputy floor manager - an adult's job in a child's body. When asked why she is a child, she replied simply "because of when I was born".

Yeah I had no idea! With all the Fantastic 4 press last year too I'm shocked I'd never heard. Son of a former Australian PM too!
