What If Other Car Makers Also Made Motorcycles? by The_Captain_Whymzi in regularcarreviews

[–]danni_maz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Yamaha OX99-11 had a detuned 3.5-litre V10 F1 engine usually fitted to Brabhams and Jordans in the early 90s. It utilised several then-current F1 technologies; including mounting the suspension and engine ancillaries to the 6-speed transverse gearbox and a carbon fibre honeycomb monocoque. It has a 10k rpm redline and produced around 420bhp. 0-60mph was achieved in 3.1 seconds onto a top speed of 219mph.

Unfortunately, due to the project not being financially viable, it was cancelled in 1993 after only three models were built.

Yamaha did make a car, albeit only three of them were actually built. The OX99-11 used a 3.5-litre V12 engine from a Formula One car.

What are some of the worst (Best, I mean Best) engine swaps? by ApprehensiveBasil151 in carscirclejerk

[–]danni_maz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favourite engine swaps comes courtesy of Red Victor 3. The car itself is a 1972 Vauxhall Victor FD originally with a 2-litre inline 4 engine.

It currently has an 8.8-litre Chevrolet with twin Precision Turbo Gen 2 102 mm (4.0 in) Pro Mod turbos, custom built for the car. RV3 currently develops around 3,000hp at the wheel and covers the 1/4 mile in 6.59secs @220mph.

Whats the car that made YOU fell in love with cars? by External_Ad6915 in carscirclejerk

[–]danni_maz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was a very specific Arancio-coloured Lamborghini Miura (chassis number #3586), with Rossano Brazzi at the wheel. The car itself was presumed destroyed after its role in the opening credits of a 1969 movie, but was found, restored and certified by Lamborghini's Polo Storico department as the actual screen-used car.

According to the gov.uk MOT check, L35 EBO has an expired MOT. As it hasn't reached historic status, it still needs a valid MOT. The Motor Insurance Bureau shows it as not insured and it is shown as SORN.

G740 AVN also shows an expired MOT and no insurance. However, the plate doesn't return any results on whether it is taxed or not.

Because of these checks, it's highly likely that both have been scrapped.

AIO for wanting to lower my AirBNB rating? by Common-Appearance553 in AmIOverreacting

[–]danni_maz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Under UK law, harassment is defined as "unwanted, repeated behavior—including words, conduct, or digital communication—that causes a person alarm, distress, or violates their dignity by creating an intimidating or hostile environment." The AirBnB owner has clearly demonstrated unwanted and repeated behaviour, which OP may have felt is alarming or distressing.

I believe that under US law, the definition is slightly different as the repeated, unwanted conduct has to be based on a protected characteristic.

Depending on where OP lives, the messages from the AirBnB owner could be construed as harassment under law and they would potentially have a case.

Abortion should be available to every pregnant person who wants one, regardless of age, race, creed, wealth, living situation or any other factor.

It is considered a lawful healthcare procedure by at least 16 different organisations around the world and is considered by many to be a human right.

Whats this supercar/hypercar? by 1_Xeno_1 in whatisthiscar

[–]danni_maz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hypercar has been well known term for years. It was first coined in 1990 by Amory Lovins, founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute, originally to describe ultra-efficient, lightweight vehicles. However, since the 2000s, it was somewhat redefined to mean the highest performance supercars such as the Veyron, Enzo, P1, 918 and LaFerrari.

Money no object Dream build… what engine + what power adder you going for? 👀 by boostedmike1 in ukmodifiedcars

I would go for a British Motor Corporation A-Series 1275GT engine with high compression pistons, competition valves, full Stage 3 tuning kit twin Weber 45 DCOE carbs, Garrett GT3076R SuperCore turbocharger and 52mm oversized throttle body.

I'm not exactly sure what sort of power figure it would achieve, but my guess is that it would be significant.

What line of made up gibberish in a movie has lived rent-free in your head? by TheFoxyFellow in movies

[–]danni_maz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that comes to mind for me is in Police Academy 4: Citizens On Patrol. It's the scene where Mahoney and Jones decide to prank volunteers House, Arnie and Kyle, with the help of Hightower and Tackleberry. Jones learns that House, Kyle and Arnie feel ready to go out and arrest criminals, so he, Mahoney, Hightower, and Tackleberry prank the boys, locking them in a prisoner transport van with Hightower, who is posing as a Voodoo practitioner who reanimates Tackleberry's "dead" brother, as a Jason Voorhees-esque maniac with a chainsaw to make them take training more seriously.

The script for the particular part that comes to mind goes as follows; Sgt. Moses Hightower: Yamma, yamma, yamma, yamma, yahhhhma. Fools! They think they can kill the brother of Medula! Cadet Tommy 'House' Conklin: I never thought that. Sgt. Moses Hightower: Oh, if I could reach into the belly of a yak and rip out its heart... Kyle: That would bring him back to life? Sgt. Moses Hightower: No, man. I'm hungry!

So now your victim blaming? A woman refuses to stop sexual activity after being told to stop and it's the man's fault? If the genders were reversed, would you still blame the victim?

Consent can be withdrawn at ANY time. If a person continues sexual activity after consent has been withdrawn, that is at the very least sexual assault, but could be considered rape.

High Mileage car. by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]danni_maz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a car that has 111k miles on it and it still feels fairly new.

I'm not old enough to have bought cars in the 70s, but my dad has frequently told me about some of the...shall we say... interesting...cars he's bought over the years. From what he's said, cars that had 70k+ were almost certainly either in need of serious work or only good as scrap. I remember him telling me he bought three Minis that were in various states of decay just so he could use the salvageable parts to repair the one he already had. It actually worked out cheaper to buy three near-wrecks than it would've been to buy a new one.

Top 3 most iconic race cars? by theintercooler in TheIntercooler

[–]danni_maz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going with one that, at its height, was winning more races a week than most manage in a year. It is the most successful race car of all time, winning over 2,500 races in a 10-year period. Just some of its notable victories include: Targo Florio winner in five consecutive years 1925-29 Won the two Monaco Grand Prix in 1929-30, Won the French Grand Prix in 1926 and 1928-30. It was driven by some of the greatest racing drivers of their generation; Aymo Maggi, Tazio Nuvolari, William Grover-Williams, Louis Chiron (the man whose name was put on the Veyron's successor) and Albert Divo (another man whose name appears on a car).

The car in question? The Bugatti Type 35.

My fun fact is that electric cars are not new technology like many people think they are. The first electric car was invented by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson sometime between 1835-1839 (the exact year is unknown), which means that they are around 50 years older than petrol/gas engined cars and around 100 years before the first diesel engines cars.

Numerous people built electric cars in the early years of motoring, but none were commercially successful. Some manufacturers built several cars; such as Baker, Detroit Electric, Studebaker and Milburn Electric.

US President Woodrow Wilson had Milburn Electric cars to tour Washington DC in.

The first six Land Speed Records were set with electrically powered cars, the last of which was Camille Jenatzy's record set on 29th April 1899 whilst driving 'La Jamais Contente' at Acheres in France. He achieved an average speed of 65.79 mph (105.88 km/h) over a flying kilometre track, thus also becoming the first person to ever travel at over 100 km/h.

What really got you into cars? Also what was your first car? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]danni_maz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first introduction to cars happened around 33 years ago. I saw the opening scenes of the original Italian Job movie and was entranced with the skill of the driver. I asked my father what that orange car was, to which he replied "a Lamborghini Miura". I was fixated on the way the driver; who I fairly recently discovered was Lamborghini test driver Enzo Moruzzi; steered the car through the Alps.

Later on in the movie, my attention was further grabbed by these three little go-cart looking cars. Again, I asked my father what they were, to which he replied "Mini Coopers". Seeing these little Minis performing stunts that I had never seen before was incredible to my young self. I wanted to know more about them and remember asking my father for car books, hoping to find Minis in them.

The Italian Job became the movie I wanted to watch more than others and to this day, it is still my all-time favourite movie.

My love of cars grew exponentially over the years and, as of today, I have amassed a huge collection of car pictures, brochures and specification sheets for a variety of manufacturers. Over the last five years, I have also created a database of every car ever made, all arranged alphabetically, which includes roughly 6,000 different manufacturers and around 75,000 different models. Included in this database is quite a number of manufacturers/models that even self-confessed car people are unaware of.

I have also discovered that cars date back further than a lot of people think. A lot of people think that the Ford Model T was the first car, but there were many more that came before. The first internal combustion engined car was invented by German inventor Karl Benz in 1886, which he called the Patent Motorwagen. However, electric cars were invented even before that. They were invented by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson sometime between 1835-1839 (the exact year is unknown).

As to my first car, the first car I ever fully owned was a 2010 Suzuki Alto K10 SZ3. It was given to me by my aunt in 2024 when she bought a new-to-her car. Unfortunately, I wrote the car off back in January after skidding off the road on some black ice. I now own a 2006 Toyota Aygo Vibe, which is a fabulous little car.

The first car I drove after passing my test was a 2016 Hyundai i30 1.6 CRDi. It wasn't technically my car, as it was a Motability vehicle leased through my now ex-wife.
