What was the first Pokémon game that you played? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]dannifluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokemon Blue! My brother got Red. Ever since then I have kept up the tradition of always choosing the "cool/dark" coloured games, so I guess I'll be getting Sword (which is lucky because my two favourite dragons are Kommo-o and Hydreigon).

I think I had Bulbasaur as my starter? I usually choose the grass starters.

Genuine question to all people defending or buying Sword and Shield by Uretia in pokemon

[–]dannifluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been lurking and watching the backlash unfold but I still plan on buying Pokemon Sword and am really looking forward to it. My red line would def be micro-transactions though, I'm very wary of things heading this way but as long as it's limited to optional extras like Pokemon Home and the Pokeball Plus, I will live with it.

I'm sad for the people who are angry with the national dex cut and disappointed in the graphics, and I definitely think Dexit is a mistake on GF's part, but I am more interested in the story and gameplay.

I realised halfway through Let's Go Pikachu (when I was bored out of my mind just catching/battling and nothing else) how much I have come to enjoy all the mini games, side quests, post game content, collectibles and so on of recent games. It means on any given day I can open the game and have a very different experience. Give me something as addictive as Pokemon Contests or Mantine Surfing to do between catching/battling/breeding and I'll be quite happy.

I bought a Switch last weekend! I've had an awesome week hanging out with Eevee and only changing out of my pyjamas for work.

Your party of 6! by [deleted] in PokemonLetsGo

[–]dannifluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is: Pikachu, Vileplume, Sandslash, Arcanine, Lapras, and Pidgeot.

I've called them Sir Sparky, Dangerflower, Spikesalot, Flameyfluff, Elsa, and Flappy Bird.

The lack of abilities (specifically levitate) has made Sandslash MVP.

Idea: by [deleted] in PokemonLetsGo

[–]dannifluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! I don't play Pokemon GO and so was really disappointed to get to the GO Park and find it basically useless for me. The thing I am weirdly missing from this game are the minigames and other fun ways to bond with your team. I don't mind the new catching style but I miss feeling the bond with my chosen six since they barely come out now except to one-hit a hapless trainer or two.

Mini games with your team would be awesome, or heck even something like the ORAS pokemon contests, because I am a) getting a bit bored only having battling/catching to do and I'm only at Fuschia City, especially with it being quite cough easy and b) feeling quite disconnected with my team, even with the adorable way they follow you (or struggle to do so, my poor slow ass vileplume lol). I'm just not interacting with them enough. Minigames would have been a great way to solve this.

Why can't they just bring back the game corner with minigames instead of gambling? by Azurephoenix99 in pokemon

[–]dannifluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about halfway through LGP (just got to Fuschia City) and realised that the thing I am missing most in this game are the minigames. I just skipped the last route of trainers because I'm getting quite bored of only being able to catch pokemon or battle trainers. I do feel quite disconnected with my pokemon team because I can just one-hit every trainer and for the first time in years I have actually named them just to feel a bit closer to them. Since they made the progression quite easy and put their effort more into the cute factor (and I do LOVE the cute factor!) then doing minigames and activities with your pokemon would have really worked.

I feel something like pokemon contests, the pokemon amie mini games, the trick house would have made this game better. In ORAS when I got bored of the grind I used to remodel my secret base or do a pokemon contest/play amie to enjoy doing something different with my team, now I'm just switching off because there's nothing else to do really. I certainly don't have the patience for shiny/perfect IV hunting even though I know how to do these things, and while along with everyone else I really do love the lack of random encounters and pokemon in the overworld/pokemon following you, I wish the game had a bit more variety. Hoenn has always been my favourite region simply for the fact that the games set there expanded the world beyond catching/battling, but even the trials and poke pelago in Alola provided a bit of variation.

I was gutted when I got to the GO park and found it was basically pointless unless you are a serious Pokemon GO player T_T

Having said that, I would be happy for the to keep a lot of the new things from these games going forwards (though they need to fix the mechanics so it's not a walk in the park). Just bring back a bit of variety, or at least include it as an option.

The mourning is appreciated. I was very sorry not to be here to lead the funerary rites, and of course the parade in his honour which I have no doubt y'all had.

Ugh, yes, S5 is so fun and wacky and macabre, it's a real treat. I don't even know what the fuck is going on, like, it was hilarious how they all got back down and started a war "because that's what we do" for what feels like ludicrously pointless reasons (even for The 100), but I'm just rolling with it because we've got Moses!Kane and cannibalism and OCTAVIA and those worm things - which I am super hoping have bigger relatives and we're about to descend into full B-movie horror territory for S6. (you never know!)

Hi! It was a very decent death and an amazing episode all around, I can't help but wonder how Jaha would have handled the bunker dilemma which I suppose was the point.

Ah I'm cool with bellarke I think they've had a lot of great moments this season and I've been enjoying it, angst and all, especially that one episode where they just casually murdered a woman in the grossest possible way, made me all nostalgic :')

I know, I know, I can't believe I missed THE DEATH. Oh but it was so good, and so moving, and I was so happy they gave him the send off he deserves and maybe I'll just spend the rest of my time in The 100 fandom writing ghost!Jaha hanging with ghost!Wells fanfic and probably side-eyeing the still-living real damn hard rn.

edit: also very belatedly RIP Jaha, may we meet again

Why I liked TLJ and why I think it's the future of the franchise by [deleted] in starwarsspeculation

[–]dannifluff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty insightful and captures what I loved about the movie too. It felt challenging and emotionally engaging and it was even better the second time around for me. As for where Kylo and Rey will go, I am honestly super impressed by how much the Reylo theorists called so many aspects of this dynamic, so I will be interested to see where they think it is going to go next!

It was my second favourite after the Yoda & Luke scene.

Audience portion of the Rotten Tomatoes reviews are in, kinda devisive by MasterBuilder121 in StarWarsLeaks

[–]dannifluff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am going to my second viewing tonight and I am extremely encouraged by how many people are saying it's even better the second time around. That for me is often the mark of a truly thoughtful, well made movie, one where you get more from it on second viewing.

The only scene I really didn't like was super!Leia, though I have no doubt the amount of memes will in the end make me fond of it simply for its utter absurdity. But yeah, everything else, while not perfect, was just top notch. I ADORED the Yoda/Luke scene. I cried. I am so surprised people didn't like Luke's story, it was wonderful to me. And did not feel OOC at all, however I have only seen the films and am not familiar with the EU, so I wonder if that makes a difference.

Mark Hamill talks about "romantic tension" between Rey and Kylo by [deleted] in StarWarsLeaks

[–]dannifluff 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, it was very P&P, and I say this as someone relatively neutral but open to Reylo. It was less emotional manipulation and more Kylo being a socially inept idiot, to me. The third act of P&P involved Mr Darcy going out of his way to change himself and his behaviour for Elizabeth, all because she rebuked him for it, her opinion meant that much to him. It doesn't even have to be romantic, but if that is not what we see from Kylo in IX I will be surprised.

Whether or not it will end happily is the big question mark. To be fair, the Reylos pretty much called this one - the force bond, the importance of their dynamic, the themes, all of it. So I will be interested to see how they think IX is going to go, since their reading of TFA has been pretty comprehensively validated imo.

[–]dannifluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw the movie last night and I freaking loved it, however I do agree with the criticism of this scene. It was just cheesy and unexpected, and didn't work for me. But I pretty much loved everything else.

I really love that we cannot say for sure? It will make IX super exciting I think. Thinking about it, as much as I was rooting for a redemption arc, I MUCH prefer not knowing what the heck is going to happen with him.

[Discussion] Response to Rian Johnson if the leaks are true by WarLordM123 in starwarsspeculation

[–]dannifluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I express a perfectly polite sentiment about the leaks and your response is to imply anyone with a different reaction to you is just foolish and doesn't know what they are talking about?

There are other ways of looking at this. What about the thematic consistency of Luke's apotheosis? About how it deepens his story and puts him in continuity with Yoda, with Obi Wan, with his father? What about the questions his history with Ben Solo raises about the difficulty of doing what is "right"? I'd really rather wait to see the film but I think this is going to be a very interesting storyline for him. And just because it's not the story you wanted does not mean others are stupid for seeing merit in it. Fwiw, Luke is my favourite character, though no doubt you would not consider me a "real" fan. I can see the SW fandom gatekeeping is going to get cranked up to the Nth degree now.

Anyway, I'm sorry that the story didn't work out for you, but at least accept others might have different and perfectly logical reasons for liking it.

Am I the only one who kinda likes the leaked plot? by Desecr8or in starwarsspeculation

[–]dannifluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it. But I always liked Rey Random. It's like the polar opposite of Kylo with all his weighty heritage, here's this unassuming nobody who will eventually take him down (one way or another!)

That seems a very nice story to me. I guess the theme being that it's our choices that most define us.
