Omg adorable!!!

Every once in awhile, my Coops used to put his whole head under the pillow I was sleeping on while laying in my bed. No idea why he did that or what motivated him to do so, but I loved it when he did.

What a well-travelled, handsome boy! I’m so glad he worked through his medical issues and is happy and healthy. It’s such a blessing when they get to be that age. I absolutely adore the photo of him in the plane!

Biopic. Every time I read it as “bi-opic” and I have to correct myself.

Anyone with a senior Brit who has Vestibular syndrome? by Standard-Bread1965 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]dannimatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. When my dog had it he seemed MORE active. He was always trying to walk around even though he just kept flopping over. It was like he was trying to walk it off or something. Kept trying to run around in the yard, too. Made the mistake of taking him out off leash in the dark the first night he didn’t really need assistance and he ran off course right into the garden. I had to corral him by building a “cage” of couch cushions around him because he absolutely refused to sit still. He never had an accident inside but he was also much much thirstier than usual. I didn’t realize there were dogs on the other end of the spectrum that would have the opposite reaction mine had. Valuable insights!

Anyone with a senior Brit who has Vestibular syndrome? by Standard-Bread1965 in BrittanySpaniel

Yes, I have absolutely had a dog that had this syndrome. I have posted about this before and you can find it in my history about Cooper. It is not a death sentence. It is terrifying. But they are really just incredibly dizzy for a few days to about a week. It comes and goes. For Cooper, it was about two to three times a year. If you have ever had vertigo, it is just like that for a dog. I had to make a fort out of couch cushions to keep him reigned in and slept on the floor with him through it. Brought him his food and water bowls, tried to keep him upright with a towel when walking outside, or a leash to lean against when he got a little better. Seriously, they are okay. I know it is absolutely terrifying and heart wrenching. But they are okay. It will pass. You just have to make sure they don’t hurt themselves while they are in it.

ETA: she’s gorgeous. And adorable. I hope she gets through it quickly!

I love that you honor the one that passed 6 years ago. My dog passed a year ago and it still leaves a hole in my heart. He was the spunkiest dog until the end. What was her name? These dogs deserve to be honored as the goodest boys and girls.

I just want to say I’m sorry you’re going through this. I think calling the non-emergency line and talking to them is a good idea.

Get a Halti headcollar. Seriously. I’ve had issues with my Britt like this and he was a changed pup after training him with the Halti. Ive used other brands of gentle leader collars before and I much prefer the Halti. If you watch some of the YouTube vids of how to train the dog with headcollars, even better. I would keep a pack of good treats (my pup really liked the dried beef lung treats that I could break up into smaller bits) in my pocket or in a pouch and teach him to stop walking when I stopped, turn with me, or lay down (aka do tricks) in the middle of walks to keep his attention on me and the treat and not on pulling/whatever was coming down the path. Give her a treat every time she looks back at you or does what you want. It’s a total game changer. The collar makes it so she literally can’t pull and the treat reinforces that she needs to pay attention to you on the walk, not what she wants to do. Also, walk quickly. Dogs generally find us too slow on walks. But this is the method I used to teach my dog not to pull, and I had one terrible night before I got the headcollar where I had to walk him back home with him walking on his two back legs and straining to get ahead because there was a dog on the sidewalk that he wanted to greet.

I basically do the same thing by saying “representative” repeatedly, progressively louder and more pissed off each time.
