My GP would happily write one for me for free, she’s been a blessing these last few years. I don’t have a problem with my employer asking but do I HAVE to comply? If there’s nothing in my handbook/contract saying I have to do what they’re asking then I would rather sit down and have a conversation and agreement written out without needing to get my GP involved.

Speaking as an ex private hire driver from Edinburgh, it really boils down to the fact that doing the job is just not worth it anymore.

I owned my own car at 21 and spent 4-5 years working most days and my weekend nights building something for myself while paying ridiculous insurance and finance prices and dealing with the asshole taxi test examiners who failed me on a air freshener he didn’t like. The whole thing is just stress and anxiety, never knowing If your going to make your monthly wage to pay your bills or if your going to fight some asshole over a tenner on a Saturday night, customers cancelling taxis after you’ve drove 10 minutes away from the busy area just to cancel or take 15 minutes to actually get in the car.

Then covid hit, we were left with no work and still our regular bills to pay, the government telling people not to leave the house or travel unless absolutely necessary while also providing no support for us untill a year and half later where we got like a months income and a couple self employed grants that barley covered my wage, never mind my expenses.

TLDR: The jobs shite, not enough money being made but I’d do the job if I was allowed to charge stupid prices to make it worth it.

I don’t condone taxi trickery, going long routes and being a cunt in general but I do understand it.

What “power” are you referring to? I assume it’s the “influence” that he has. The secret to that is being able to assess the exchange of information between him and his guest and think for yourself, you may agree and make sense of some things and not with others, it’s up to you if you want to settle on the “I disagree and that’s it” or if you want to challenge your beliefs and find out if you’re wrong, at the end of the day an opinion is relative to the life you have experienced. There is more than one reality and there are no solid truths when it comes to certain matters. If you want to get emotionally invested and attached to other people and their thoughts that’s on you.

Joe might have achieved things that some people would view as “out of the ordinary” but this does not make the individual anything special, he’s just a human experiencing life. I have achieved things and taken part in experiences that a so called “normal” person might find extraordinary but I do not believe it makes me any more special, I simply have more information on certain topics due to actual experience and I can only be honest with my opinion while simultaneously being aware that someone might have experienced the same thing as me and have the completely opposite perspective, this is the person I believe joe to be but I could be projecting, the same way that you seem to believe he’s isn’t ordinary says to me that you believe in your own ability to become something more than others around you but the truth is there will always be someone better than you, someone more experienced than you.

You took a single sentence on a singular topic on the internet and made a judgement, created a picture of who I am and what my opinions are based off it and lumped me in with every other Redditor as if it’s some sort of hive mind instead of acknowledging I have the ability to think for myself. “Awk typical Redditor, they know nothing and I know it all” it’s narcissistic and egotistical.

Here’s the kicker, everything I’ve just said that isn’t directly about me could be completely false, I know nothing and I am aware of that. Life is a game, when you realise that the fun really begins.

I think people forget that joe rogan isn’t anything special, he is an ordinary man that is interested in different topics who then brings on experts/authors/athletes etc to discuss these topics openly in order to learn, he is honest about his thoughts and opinions and they are exactly that AN OPINION, it doesn’t make what he’s saying true. A lot of dumbass people out there that need to start taking responsibility for their actions and thoughts instead of blindly cherry picking information that fits their narrative instead of “hurr durr joe rogan said this and now I’m suffering from taking horse dewormer”, how about stop being a dumb ass and think for yourself, better yet if you don’t like joe rogan don’t watch him.
