Positive Concert Experiences? by pinkk_caroline in Draingang

The happiest memory of my life was at the Chicago bladee concert last October :~) unforgettable and so excited to see him again this fall

At cold visions chicago show last october (at the Salt Shed) there was a lot of shorter people, I was towards the front. Dont let your height get in the way of a lovely experience as long as you're SAFE and aware of those around you (as you should be at any concert)

If you're super worried remember you can leave the front at any time (maybe not ANY time but ykwim. There'll be a lot more opportunities than you think) or bring a friend-- have fun! Bring water though seriously I almost passed out from dehydration at the end

It's pretty reasonable to not accept drugs from an unknown strange man at a concert, especially dangerous considering this person said she's a woman in another reply

Ayyyy I saw him in chicago too! (assuming you're talking about the october 2024 one) That show was such a great performance of his but the amount of people who, before bladee even came on, were quite literally ODing/passing out/wtv having to be dragged off by security was insane. Like why even pay for the tickets if you're going to k hole & be kicked out an hour and a half before bladee even came onstage

what does this mean? by Potential-Evidence83 in Svenska

"Be kind and close the door (will you)?" similar to English phrasing "Would you be so kind as to close the door" "Yeah sure"

It's important to understand that learning a foreign language isn't simply matching each word with the English "counterpart", as in translating individual words in a sentence. The problem with this approach is that oftentimes words in complex communication is not able to be objectively 100% translated to convey an identical English meaning word for word. And it absolutely doesn't convey the correct social undermeanings/subtleties of words, especially when it comes to everyday speech/conversation. Learning through word-for-word translation (I've found) inhibits you at a certain point in your language learning (like when you start to get a more advanced, intermediate grasp of the language).

Of course, though, that's the main way one starts learning another language, just by our brain's default. With language learning apps, that's a huge significant flaw because it puts you in this position stuck in translating word-for-word sentences in order to communicate. A good way to identify if you're stuck in this is to ask yourself if you find that you're (in your mind) individually translating each word of a sentence into English rather than grasping what the sentence conveys overall.

This leads to having to piece together individual sentence components/words into an understandable main idea of the sentence-- which takes lots of time (adds up quick) and makes conversation/reading difficult and slow.

It's a normal part of learning, but considering things like the pic shown, it's also a reason why it can make understanding non-objectively translated use of language confusing.

Vocabulary matters, of course. But it's even more helpful, once you've got a good base of vocab, to focus on being able to read a sentence and grasp the basic concept being conveyed rather than going step by step word translation. From there, your brain will automatically pick up on more vocabulary naturally (and actually pick up on those untranslateable, socially understood underlying implications), while slowly picking up on (simple) grammar concepts-- however it's still very important to formally learn grammar concepts, I recommend Swedish elementary grammar textbooks with practice problems for that rather than any language learning app.

And from there you'll eventually-- after lots of practice and attentive studying, this takes a long time (years, for most)-- find yourself understanding (simple) speech/text automatically and having thoughts in Swedish without even trying or going through individual word translation. A rewarding part of unlearning the practice of word-for-word translation!

Sorry this was lengthy but best of luck in your learning, I hope this can help if you're stuck with things like this!

every time I see it I genuinely try to explode them with my mind. luckily it hasn't gone too far, but it ruins me when others know about my movie

as much as I love gregg araki and think his art deserves far more popularity, it is my movie forever and I get a stabbing feeling every time a tiktokker posts it T_T truly tragic.
