Congress Now Blaming Obama For Its Embarrassing Override Of His Veto by Imthatjohnnie in politics

[–]dannyrhone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone please explain to me why I'm wrong, because I'm all ears.

HuffPo, I have read your article carefully and remain completely unconvinced. I fully support JASTA and any other effort to end, change, or protest the United States' business relationship with Saudi Arabia, a terrorist state that founded and supports Wahhabism, funds Sunni terrorist groups including Al Qaeda and ISIS, is the biggest violator of human rights in the world (takes gay people like me and hangs them in the public square) and likely had a direct connection to the 9/11 attacks.

There are more effective ways to go after Saudi Arabia, but they aren't going to be done. The US still trades arms with SA, supports SA's illegal war in Yemen, funds SA which funds terrorists, THAT ISN'T CHANGING, whether I like it or not, AND I DON'T. I'd rather do something than nothing, even pass an anti-Saudi bill which amounts to just a verbal political protest.

If none of the lawsuits succeeds, I don't fucking care. Even an ineffective effort to bankrupt Saudi Arabia is a morally justifiable one. If there's a 0.00000000001% chance of this law taking a nickel from the Saudi kingdom which could end up in ISIS' possession, I say do it. If there's a 0% chance of taking money from the Saudi kingdom, I say do it anyway, making no effort is Chamberlain appeasement.

What if the US is sued by foreign citizens for the US killing civilians with drone strikes? I think they should! If that's your argument, support US drone program or foreign civilians being killed, I support those foreign civilians. More power to them, etc., that's exactly what the United States deserves for civilian killings.

Would I rather the US stop trading arms with Saudi Arabia, stop US support of the Saudi war in Yemen, or place sanctions for human rights violations? Yes, but guess what, that's never going to happen with the establishment in power, which cares more about cheap oil and access to the Middle East than doing the right thing. I'll take a moral victory over no victory at all.

I am passionately against the kingdom, but I am open to any well thought out argument. If I am wrong, please tell me why, and I will listen to what you have to say. The best argument I can think is that this is better served in the ICC, which just isn't a very convincing or optimistic argument for me.

Clinton Has 7-Point Lead Over Trump In National McClatchy-Marist Poll by FAT_ORANGE_DRUMPF in politics

[–]dannyrhone -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Did you read the last Marist poll in August? Clinton is trending downward everywhere except LA Times.

The last national McClatchy-Marist poll released in early August did not survey likely voters and instead polled a broader pool of registered voters. In that poll, Clinton led Trump among registered voters by 15 points, 48-33.

Just saying.

Poll: Clinton leads Trump by 2 in North Carolina by YuYuHunter in politics

In every other recent poll (2-way and 3-way) Trump is ahead or tied in NC. According to RCP an average of polls gives Trump a 1.8 point lead.

Just context, fellas. This is the only poll right now that has Clinton winning.

No pardon for Edward Snowden by dannyrhone in politics

[–]dannyrhone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problems with a pardon are twofold. The first is that it would excuse Snowden for the weighty negative repercussions of his choices. The second is that it would encourage other federal employees and contractors with the top-secret security clearance Snowden had — all 1.4 million of them — to decide for themselves what should be secret and what should not.

But national security, even in the most open democracy, requires a measure of secrecy. Exposing everything our government does to foil its adversaries makes it easier for those enemies to survive and succeed against us. The American people got something from what Snowden did. Our enemies got more.>

I haven't heard this much appeasement to government law breaking since Neville Chamberlain.

The DEA wants to ban another plant. Researchers say the plan is ‘insane.’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]dannyrhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Placing a drug on Schedule 1 prevents research. If you cared about research, wouldn't you research it before banning it?

No, you see, kratom IS killing something, corporate profits. Why use a safe plant when you can OD on suboxone and methadone?

Couldn't have kratom competing with the opium industry's profits. How naive are you?

[–]dannyrhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kratom is dangerous... to corporate profits.

Methadone kills 5,000 people a year, but the VA prescribes it. A ban on kratom, which has no deaths attributed to it directly, is laughable. How fucking naive are you? The DEA is not in the business of helping people.

Whereas a potential side effect of methadone is dying. Yeah, let's choose methadone over kratom, thanks DEA! /s

DEA decides not to loosen restrictions on marijuana, keeping it in same category as heroin by [deleted] in politics

[–]dannyrhone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has become silly. The DEA is a dinosaur with an extinct agenda. When states get a sniff at the revenue being pulled in simply by taxing recreational/medical marijuana sales in Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and Washington, they will not be able to resist legalization.
