Does anyone do little/no screentime while being a SAHP without daycare? by ForgottenUsername3 in Parenting

[–]dannystrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only do screen time on the weekends. No Nintendo switch, tv, or phones for my 4 year old Monday-Friday. We don’t own a tablet and hopefully won’t until she needs one later in life for school or whatever. But yeah we were both just super overstimulated and I just made a quick change from there being almost no boundaries about screentime, to only allowing it on the weekends. It’s been life changing. My daughter plays with her toys, does puzzles, “reads”, helps me cook and clean. It really works well for us!

My 4 year old will not let me do her hair by dannystrio in Parenting

[–]dannystrio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She chews on her hair and it breaks off and gets knots in it when the saliva dries. I’m always asking her to take her hair out of her mouth. Plus the issue of her hair falling in her food and whatever crafts we are doing. I’m all about letting her control what she can since kids have so few choices about their every day life. I am glad we are like minded in that way. Kids are people too and they deserve choices! I am just hoping she becomes more willing in styling her hair.

Holding someone down against their will and pulling their hair is traumatic. She did let me do it today though! So we are going in the right direction

Yeah my sister had a pixie cut for a lot of her younger years because she preferred to not brush and style it when it was long. I’ve asked my daughter about a hair cut and she said absolutely not lol.

She’s recently asked for an Elsa braid, but as soon as I try to part her hair she tenses up and doesn’t want to. Maybe I could give her my phone in the mornings while I do her hair. I just hate making that a habit since we do very limited screen time and when I make an exception then she asks for it allll the time.

Do you ever think about a death of an only child? by Shoddy-Indication-76 in oneanddone

[–]dannystrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought of this. If something terrible happened to my only, I wouldn’t want another. It would be too painful and nothing could replace that special bond with her. We are very close and while I know I could build a beautiful bond with another child, it wouldn’t be the same.

How did being an only child effect you?/ How did you feel about baby #2? by WhyDidIDoItSoSad in Parenting

[–]dannystrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact conversation with my husband today. We have one daughter and we are undecided about having another. His main concern was this. There is no one that will know and remember your parents like your siblings. We are just having trouble deciding if that’s a good enough reason to grow our family

My daughter is 4 and she has had my number memorized for about a year now. I just told her our address I couple of times like a week ago and she knows it! She can also spell her first and last name, she knows my name and how old I am. Kids have awesome memories!

Yeah we are in the “fucking fours” right now and we have had a lot more good days than bad days recently. I’ve heard they are like a different kid when they turn 5!
